DARK SHADOWS 553

DARK SHADOWS 553

Nancy Barrett. It is 10:45 as Jeff watches the grandfather clock  at Collinwood. Different reprise with different shots, staging, and dialog.

Also: a BIG tree behind Adam shakes as if it will fall. Carolyn comes down the steps at Collinwood to Jeff. It is 11:35 (or is that 12: 35?) and Jeff worries. He’s also smoking. Vicki’s been gone over two hours so it seems that it is 11:35. He gets an IDK. Carolyn tries to comfort him and rubs his back for a short bit. She tells him that Vicki and Barnabas are good friends. Love Carolyn’s green, orange and white trimmed outfit.

Carolyn tells him Vicki is very punctual. Jeff wants to go find out what is keeping her. Carolyn offers to show him the way but he claims he knows it already, even though he’s never been there. He seems to lie as he tells her that Vicki gave him the directions to it once and he remembers those directions.

Adam brings Vicki to the West Wing. MIKE and MIKE SHADOW. “Your name is Vicki.”  Vicki tells him, “I’ve been here before.”

Vicki also, stunningly, gets an “I KNOW” and “I UNDERSTAND.” Finally!

Sadly, not moments later, as the two discuss why she is here, she gets a “I don’t understand you.”

He seems to admit that she never did anything to hurt him and only met him once, in the jail. He admits to seeing her kiss Jeff and didn’t mean to watch.

Is the show trying to say this is the room or the Wing where Vicki was held captive by little monster David? Or was she in the West Wing some other time? Adam and Vicki talk. He doesn’t want to hurt her but he tells her if she tries to run away or if she screams, “I’ll have to kill you.”

Jeff goes to the Old House and tells Barnabas Vicki never arrived back at Collinwood. Barnabas tells him she left 40 minutes ago. Does the time here seem a bit off? Jeff asks since he was coming the other way, why they didn’t see each other. Barnabas’s answer, “I don’t know.”

He recalls Adam’s words and we hear them, too. Barnabas says, “My God,”  and when Jeff questions him, Barnabas says, “I don’t know.”

Jeff asks if something’s happened and he repeats “I don’t know.” They both feel they are both to blame for letting her walk alone in the woods at night. The windows look different from other times in the series. The two search the woods as a storm comes up. They split up. There is a smaller path to the garden behind the house, not a direct path. A thunderstorm approaches.

Carolyn writes in the drawing room. As she does, there is someone lurking outside the drawing room doors. A stage hand? Someone knocks.

It is Barnabas who gets an IDK when she asks if something is wrong. He tells her what is happening and wants to know where Adam is. The two tell each other nothing. Carolyn later goes to Adam in the West Wing. We see moving shadows there. Barnabas in talking to the dope Carolyn calls her, “Vicki,” in a flub. WHY won’t Barnabas tell her what Adam wanted: a bride. That would make Carolyn give him up, the little fool that she is. With Vicki’s life in danger, she still protects Adam, the dumb blonde Carolyn is.

Carolyn gets a “I Don’t Understand” when asking why he thinks Adam is behind Vicki’s disappearance. She’s an idiot.

Adam lies to Carolyn outside the door and seems to be blocking her way. He claims he’s never lied to her. She gets another IDU.

Adam tells her that Barnabas is lying. Carolyn asks why. Adam says, “I don’t know.”

Adam lets Carolyn into the room to see if Vicki is in there. Vicki is gone.

Adam tells Carolyn that Vicki once visited him in jail with another woman. He lies about seeing Vicki. Carolyn tells him, “Vicki is very important to everyone in my family.” Carolyn trusts him and says she is sorry for doubting him. When Adam acts outraged that she thinks he has something to do with Vicki’s disappearance, Carolyn gets another IDK.

Adam seems to get very happy that she gets happy to know it isn’t true and it’s both romantic and very, very creepy of him as he’s totally lying to her and seemingly still interested in her, romantically shall we say.

She does not search the closet in the room, the doofus. She leaves. Adam checks on Vicki…who is tied up in the closet. Bound and gagged.

Review: Pretty quick and pretty good. But everyone here is lying except Vicki: Barnabas lies, Jeff lies (about knowing his way to the Old House I think; I think he’s been there before?), Carolyn lies, Adam lies. And what’s odd is that each of them expects the others to NOT lie.

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:

In the teaser, when Adam picks up Vicki in the woods, the tree behind him wobbles alarmingly.

When Jeff tells Carolyn that Vicki’s been gone for two hours, there’s a series of thumps and crashes from the studio.

Barnabas has a pair of flashlights at the Old House, which he and Jeff use when they search the woods. Barnabas doesn’t have any electric lights in the house — he lives by candlelight — so I don’t know why he keeps flashlights on hand.

Barnabas says to Carolyn, “Vicki… aren’t you the least bit concerned that Vicki may be in danger?”

The closet in Adam’s room is brand-new; there was a brick wall there before.
