  AMERICAN HORROR STORY season 11: eps 3 and 4: SMOKE SIGNALS and BLACK OUT   This season is playing upon expectations of previous nonsensical seasons and surprising us by playing things, uhm, completely straight. Well, straight as in “not over the top” and “not farcical” or for any comedy at all. And for me, at least, serious horror works better than all the previous ten seasons. The synopsis below of season 11 eps 3 and 4 have major SPOILERS so don’t go on. In fact, the rest of his review has major spoilers.   First, the Whitely character is so creepy and filmed well that he IS scary. This show hasn’t been this scary since maybe season one’s creep factor. BUT this is more realistic. Whitely in the elevator during the black out is one of the truly terrifying images as two men (one is Daniel played by Hale Appleman of the magnificent THE MAGICIANS tv series where he’s amazingly good and also plays gay or bi), unthinking and meaning well to catch a killer, Hardy (or Hardly?) boy

  STRANGE PARADISE ep 8 “This house…this island which is like some strange land from out of the past.”   “You’re frightened of what?” “Of my sister in a cryonics capsule and her husband trying to keep her alive. And Raxl trying to convince me that you’re possessed by some evil spirit.”   Gosh! Whenever I do understand what everyone is talking about, it’s the same old same old from all seven episodes again over and over. Raxl is an old savage servant who rants about the devil, even though she’s not in this episode Allison and Jean Paul talk about her. Frankly, I’m glad she’s not in this episode. While the ole creepster is amusing, I need a break from her. Quino is in this episode and mainly to mysterious shield and shuttle papers from Ben Foster (remember him?). Jean signed Jac’s name to important documents.   I’m afraid I forgot what those documents are for and Ben doesn’t tell us THAT important info! Everything is gone over though. He gives Ben money but Ben gives it back. Nathan knows Barnabas did not go to England .           441       Joan. The narration tells us that Trask will find a fate worse than death.       Reprise which seems exactly the same. Trask voice over. Maude’s unblinking        dead body is …well, I give the actress credit for not blinking. This is       indicative of DS deaths: the bodies have their eyes wide open but       unstaring and unblinking. Nathan wants Trask to deliver a letter to       Millicent and as Nathan is not welcome at Collinwood, he needs Trask to       bring it. Trask, at first, refuses but Nathan sees the arm of Maude from       under the blanket that Trask stupidly threw over her body..she’s on his       bed and was found that way. Nathan, at first, believes Trask just had a       girl over and that she’s asleep.
