BIG FINISH’S DARK SHADOWS- BLOODLUST episode 10
BIG FINISH’S
DARK SHADOWS-
BLOODLUST
episode 10
Narration:
Kate. A new day dawns.
Andrew
appears in a flashback (?) as Amy reads a fairy tale story to a baby Tommy.
Angelique finishes the fairy tale. She also does a spell and the baby cries.
She calls out to dark powers, saurus rotus?
Quentin does
a narration about the wolf, in a rage of passion. Calling to set the monster
free.
Quentin
calls to Tom to open his eyes. Tom felt so alive as the wolf.
Barnabas
wakes up a fallen Angelique, who claims it was Carolyn who repelled her using
magic. She also asks what Barnabas did and he says he lived. He goes to his
coffin to sleep.
An alarm
wakes up Kate, who feels like death.
Theme. Which
has a heart beat sound some of the time playing with it.

Maggie and
Amy chat. She wants to have a drink later with Amy and Kate too, if they can
drag her away from Frankie. Quentin comes to Amy and has Tom in tow. “There are
monsters out there,” Amy says.
“Mom,” Tom
explains, “I’m one of them. I’m one of the monsters.”
Eric gives Maggie
coffee with no sugar. They’ve tested 137 people but she thinks it is not
enough. Six people in the cells have anomalies in their blood. Mike arrives and
is not sure about people being locked up. Maggie thinks it is for their own
safety. One is only seven years old.
Mike asks to
have a word with Maggie alone. He explains the deputy with the nose, Brian,
told Mike that Maggie is not investigating the death of Trask. She will but not
now. She thinks Trask was not part of the town. Maggie wants them to make sure
who is important and who isn’t. She looks for sugar. Hate her now? I do. She’s
a B word.
Amy comes to
terms with: Tom, Chris, and Sabrina is all because of Quentin. She slaps him
and he makes a joke. Tom doesn’t want her to hate him. Quentin tells her she
cannot just leave with the boys. Tom is less than two years old.
Amy rants
and blames Quentin who wants them to stay to keep Tom safe, and find out what
happened to Harry. Quentin was told by Stokes that Amy saved lives when she
studied with him. Even strangers. Amy lost people but saved others. Amy can’t
lose anyone else.
Quentin is
over 100 years old and lost everyone he’s ever known. His selfish mistakes made
him like this. Amy is a reason for him to try to do something right. Quentin
explains that it is something that David and Carolyn might be doing.
At the Blue
Whale, Ed gives Frankie liquid (coffee). Frankie tells Ed he wants to talk to
Kate and Ed knows it without Frankie telling him. Frankie stayed over. Kate’s
taped message answers. Some of Kate’s turning (she wants to “man up” herself)
reminds me of a really bad movie called CLUB VAMPIRE but here, it’s better
acted and executed.
Quentin, Amy,
and Tom go to Angelique. Tom thinks it is cool that there is a coffin with
Barnabas here. He wants to see him in it but Angelique says, “I wouldn’t
recommend it.” Amy last saw Carolyn
about ten years ago. They studied together in college.
Amy and
Angelique think Collinsport should tear itself apart but Quentin thinks they
should go to Collinwood. He asks if Amy is with them.
Frankie
wants to get out of town. Susan thinks Kate needs him and loves him. Frankie
says, “We’re not exactly Romeo and Juliet.” There was one kiss years ago between
them. Susan tells Frankie it was years ago. Susan says Ed is doing to die.
Amy goes to
David at the Collinwood doors. They were best friends once. She’s trying to
distract him. She says they had fun, it wasn’t all ghosts, scary and weird.
They ran rings around Mrs. Johnson and Maggie. David says work being done here
is not really safe so she can’t come in. She wants to go into town and have a
drink.
“He was
murdered.” She says of Andrew, her husband.
“Welcome
back to Collinsport,” he says.
“There’s the
David I know. Sick sense of humor.”
Amy says
people in town are saying David is doing magic here and is responsible for what’s
happening in town.
Susan saw
Trask who didn’t know he was dead. She felt when Trask died. Susan helped
Trask. She is here to help someone else pass over, too. She thinks it is Ed.
She feels intense grief. Frankie says they should tells Ed to shut up the Inn
(I thought that was Maggie’s and Ed had the Blue Whale?).
Amy asks
what is going on. David says Carolyn is unwell and drinking again. Amy asks
them both to leave Collinsport. David cannot due to the business.
Tom and
Quentin trust Amy but it is difficult to trust anyone having lived to long as
Quentin, he claims. They break into Collinwood. Quentin knows Angelique would
look after Tom if he wants to not do this. Tom agrees to do it. Quentin says
Open Sesame.
Frankie
wants to have a beer with Ed, “You and me against the world.” They do. Eric
arrives for a very large beer after a long shift. Ed says no change to his mom
in hospital, “Quietest she’s been in years.”
Kate snores
like a monster. It goes on a long time and is disturbing. She’s hungry.
Tom and
Quentin are in the West Wing. Quentin feels something familiar in the air.
Jackie asks
Maggie for another coffee. Harry and Cody are off somewhere making…taking photos.
Jackie explains to Maggie. Jackie says Mrs. Grayson is on her list. Jackie
wants to meet the boys are the Blue Whale. Maggie claims to be doing this for
young people so they don’t have to go through what she went through. She’s a
dope.
David tells
Amy after she left, “I got killed by a ghost, came back from the dead, the
usual.” Roger sent him away to school and
David studied medicine and came back. Though David said he came back and then
said he studied medicine. Amy thought David wanted to be an archeologist
(RETURN TO COLLINWOOD?). something scared the whole family away: a demon named Styrx,
the stealer of souls. Flashback. With Willie, “get Julia” and Carolyn
screaming. DS classic music. “Run Carolyn.” So many birds that attacked and
they all got separated. Carolyn and David were in the woods hiding. Carolyn
knew what to do. At Wyndcliffe David went and found another demon. He was
trapped there locked up until Maggie came and rescued him.
Amy wonders
if Stryx could be behind what’s happening in the town. David says, IDK. David
feels he has to be strong and says, “IDK” but he has to rebuild this family and
this town. Amy asks David if he is doing magic.
“God, no,” David
tells Amy, “Just this once, there is nothing supernatural happening at
Collinwood.”
Quentin says,
“I don’t understand.”
He and Tom feel
as if they were walking for hours now. Tom is glad he has long legs now. It’s
magic misdirecting them. “Do you know sleeping beauty?”
“I’m not
that old.”
There is a
fear in the air, like brambles. Quentin thinks Tom inherited more than just the
werewolf curse when Tom ponders a sleeping beauty waiting for a kiss from him.
No food in
Kate’s fridge. She finds Frankie’s message on her tape machine. “Okay, Blue Whale,
Frankie and food, two birds, one stone.” She doesn’t realize Frankie will be
her food!
An hour
before the curfew, Jackie tries to stop Harry and Cody staring at each other. Cody
feels Jackie will find someone one day and she feels that’s all a girl needs, sarcastically
saying a girl needs some big man to sweep her off her feet. She’s been with
Sherrif Hitler all day (Maggie). Jackie does a BWAH HA HA laugh at her
undercover, fooling Maggie.
Harry thinks
that he and Cody are “something nice.”
Eric asks
Jackie for a drink. Cody and Harry see that he likes her. Harry and Cody ignore
her for each other and that’s how Harry sees something nice: Cody. When Jackie
asks if he includes her in that something good, he asks, “So, anyone want
another beer?”
She jokes, “I
hate you.”
The kids are
drinking. Amy realizes how late it is. He kisses her. David becomes very arch,
he kept her out here for hours. A perception spell: it has been all day. Young
Tom has five minutes before the full moon rises. “You knew?” Amy asks.
“Of course,
I’m David Collins of Collinsport. This town belongs to me, so you want to see
if you can find them before Tom turns into a wolf and rips Quentin limb from
limb?”
The illusion
has rooms moving around Tom and Quentin. It is all in their minds. Tom calls it
an illusion and that they are where they need to be already. Quentin calls him
a clever boy. Carolyn is chanting in a foreign language. Carolyn is sleeping
beauty?
The
heartbeat.
Kate goes to
the Blue Whale, looking for steak, which the Blue Whale does not do. We get
sound and dialog from Kate’s vampiric POV.
Tom finds
candles and books…and “Is that a hand?”
Amy arrives
and tells them the moon is rising. David won’t let them go until Tom rips
Quentin and Amy apart. He has a gun. Carolyn’s magic will protect him.
Kate, as a
vampire, attacks Eric when he tries to ask her a question.
Quentin
attacks David so Amy can leave, and though she doesn’t want to and will be
back, she goes. Tom can’t leave due to a barrier, the brambles. He turns into a
wolf. Quentin leaves, too. David calls Tom his new pet. He treats him like a
dog.
Frankie and
Ed come out from the back and confront Kate. Frankie is sorry for everything
and will find a way to cure Kate. “I don’t want to be cured,” she says. She
explains a man last night did this. Eric is dead. Kate cries but is still
hungry. Frankie says he will love her. He will take her to a hospital for
blood. He loves her. She says she loves him. Frankie will get her a beer. He
makes her say his name.
Kate turns
normal looking. Frankie reaches out to take her hand. Kate says, “…I am so hungry.” She rips at Frankie’s throat. He screams. We
hear bats?
Mike goes to
Maggie about Dr. Hill’s next set of blood tests and found another abnormal
blood test from a person. Maggie calls it a monster. Mike reveals, “Maggie, it’s
you.”
Theme.
Cody: DS is
a big finish production.
Did Tom howl
during the credits?
A good
episode again and shocking. Having two people as nice as Eric Handley and Frankie
were DIE so savagely is scary and shocking. What’s more Frankie was trying to
save Kate by calming her down and her looks changed to normal human…just before
she rips at his throat. The screams in the audio are probably scarier than
seeing an attack! Once more, Kate seems to be an audio survivor and having her
a vampire menace that is so savage and monstrous is shocking.
It's also disturbing
that David is so cold and evil here and his accomplice is Carolyn!
A truly
great episode that is unpredictable, dangerous and cold, yet that’s DS. It feels
like DS, it sounds like DS (that music! And not just the credits but there is
long running music from the TV show that is called incidental but nothing incidental
about any of it).
This is all
great. And the mix of old characters and new continues to provoke and entertain
in a fun, scary, and interesting way. Anyone who gets this far into the series,
will want to know what happens next.
