DARK SHADOWS 402-403
DARK SHADOWS 402-403
402
“She can make anything
happen.”
“She loves you. She did
everything to get you to love her.”
“This house is so strange.
When I’m alone in it, I’m frightened.”
“I must stop her.”
“You can’t begging your
pardon sir. Nobody can except the devil
when he’s used her up!”
What’s another interesting
thing is that Barnabas was, by her own and for once truthful admission, NOT
controlled by Angelique when he shot Jeremiah and so he killed Jeremiah. It was
HIS reaction to it all that killed Jeremiah. Yes, Angelique was partly
responsible but here he acts as if he is blameless. He’s NOT. It was he who
directly killed Jeremiah. HE pulled the trigger.
Joan. Reprise. Different reprise: the
delivery is different and the dialog
slightly changed. (When Ben first draws
the V in the sand, Barnabas, this time does not say, “V for Victoria” and then
Ben writes the line across to make an “A”.) In 401, Barnabas first said, “V for
Victoria.” Here, he does not.
NO new stuff added. Ben says
only the devil can stop
Angelique when he 's done with her. She can
make anything happen. Jeremiah
does know Barnabas is not to blame now.
Angelique loves you, Ben tells
Barnabas but he thinks it is hate. She
taught him the meaning of hate. Ben
tells Barnabas to be careful but he tells
Ben that revenge is a necessity
to him. Ben wants to do it, he knows the
paths she takes in the woods.
Barnabas tells him he must do it: she has
taken his reason for living.
Barnabas voice over: he will poison her
drink. He and Angelique have a
memorable conversation they cannot have
at any other time like this: he
knows about her and she doesn’t know he
knows but he starts giving her
sarcastic double meanings in their talk
and LIKE A DOPE, gives her reasons
to suspect but it's kind of a funny
dialog. Angelique says, "You know
everything I do." "I do ?"
She also calls herself such a romantic. She says
she's not used to asking for things. She
wants to go away on a wedding
trip and she keeps hesitating before she
drinks the poison. She also says,
"I can't make anyone
disappear." "You can't?" Before she can drink, Naomi
interrupts them by coming in. She
mentions she is glad he is all right and
mentions that Ben must be found. This
alerts Angelique to these facts.
Without realizing it, Angelique gives
Naomi the poisoned untouched
drink...is this foreshadowing? I doubt
the writers knew at this point what
would happen to Naomi but maybe? In any
case, Barnabas lies that the glass
is chipped and goes to show her but
purposely knocks the glass from her
hand. When Angelique takes the glass, she
realizes it was not chipped.
Nathan Forbes brought a mail package and
they have Riggs bring it in.
Unseen Riggs. Barnabas holds his knife at
ready. The package is unveiled
unseen but it is revealed to be a portrait
of Josette from Andre to
Barnabas and Josette for their wedding.
Josette enclosed a letter from
before they left wherever they were (
teleprompter. She notes he seems kinder
in attitude toward Josette than a
month ago. A month ago he called her
fickle and callous. She tells him she
is sorry and that she loves him so much.
The chimes sound later. Later
that night, Barnabas comes into their
bedroom and puts a knife into the
figure sleeping on the bed...
A good ep if just for the interaction
between Angelique and Barnabas. It’s
also annoying that she's so hard to kill
and that Naomi interferes without
knowing it. Abigail, like Clarice's other
busy body character Mrs. Johnson,
will cause problems like this in the very
near future for telling
Angelique too much. Abigail's a jerk
though; Naomi isn't. Abigail
suspected Angelique as the witch at one
point and wasn't ever sure but
later on she tells her ALOT of info that
Angelique uses against Barnabas
and attacks him, thus Abigail is
indirectly responsible for Barnabas's
curse, the vampire and everyone that
loves him dying including maybe even
herself. Abigail's a jerk and the sooner
she dies the better!
403
Nancy Barrett. Uh oh, that means
Millicent is around. Angelique comes out
of the corner of the room. The gall of
this woman. She constantly blames
others for her misfortune and is
constantly surprised when they (or in
most cases, he, Barnabas) turn on her and
then she again, wonders why and
meets their punishment with more
ghoulishness. She's so annoying and
pedantic, it begins to grate on one's
nerves. One wishes, like Servalan in
BLAKE'S SEVEN she would get her final comeuppance.
She tells Barnabas, "I
will always love you." She makes him
drop the knife. There is a clunk at
the end of the theme. Barnabas vs
Angelique. He tries to choke her. She
will not make him do anything; she wants
a man not a puppet. She says she
never wanted Jeremiah to die but he tells
her she is as responsible as if
she pulled the trigger herself and LO AND
BEHOLD, he says, "Yes." She owns
up to something! However, she says she's
hated Josette because she loves
the man she, Angelique wants. Barnabas
realizes all Angelique has done.
The choking, the love potion, and Sarah's
illness. He says he will turn
her over to the authorities. QUESTION
(HANDS UP): with her powers, what
can THEY do to her? Angelique will not
let him and as the years go by, she
believes they will have a good life and
he will forget. Is SHE DELUSIONAL?
She also threatens Josette again if he
doesn't do what she wants. Now,
even I, hate Angelique.
Poles hold an iron gate. Nathan Forbes
and Millicent; she feeling the
night is black and gloomy. There is that
nice music again. Millicent has
shocked herself by being so alone with
him. They sit on a bench. Millicent
says they must never be alone. Are they
trying to tell us that these two
have had sex? Forbes hates rules. Barnabas
arrives and Millicent
overreacts and says, "I am
ruined." He wants Millicent to wake up Josette
and tell her to come and see him. Why
doesn't he just tell them all about
Angelique right now? Angelique voice over.
Angelique in the mean time wants eyes of
the night to find a body to use
so she can watch what Barnabas is doing.
Or see what he sees or something.
Natalie comes to the threesome outside in
the courtyard and refuses his
request. In room that looks like it will
be David’s room, it's Natalie vs Barnabas. She says, "None of my
business" is a phrase she never knew
until she came to Collinsport. He
wants Natalie to take Josette to
friends." She respected him before
his marriage, "It's impossible to have
friendships with anyone in this house,
you're all too unwilling to explain
yourselves." THIS IS NOT TRUE of at
least Naomi. And what about her? She's
a jerk. Natalie takes Barnabas downstairs
and ignores his warnings of
danger for Josette. IF anything happens,
he tells her before leaving the
second floor, it is her responsibility.
Angelique draws (laughable) eyes on
paper. The eyes of the night will
borrow a body.
Millicent tells Nathan, "No one has
ever seen me with anyone." Forbes
says, "Not to your credit."
Barnabas asks Millicent to bring Josette to
the garden at 9am tomorrow. Millicent
feels a chill and says that someone
is watching them. When she goes, Barnabas
senses something out there.
Nathan says, "There always is."
Nathan asks if he needs help and explains
he has more experience than Barnabas with
women like Angelique. A giant
bat is watching them. A laughable bat.
Barnabas gets two IDKs and at
least one IDU. Millicent gets an IDK.
It’s is interesting that Millicent is
somewhat sensitive to
supernatural...not that we know that this
bat IS supernatural...but in
light of the future events of Barrett's
other characters...they all seem
to have some insight to things if not
outright ESP.
Another good ep and not too badly ruined
by Millicent stuff...
Dark shadows is the best I've ever seen when I was a kid I used to run home and turn it on from school
