DARK SHADOWS 312
DARK SHADOWS
312
“David has a
way of getting past locks.”
Vicki gets a
IDK in the reprise from last time. David pure and innocent?
When Joe and
Carolyn inadvertently stop Barnabas from biting Vicki, Barnabas says, “Good
evening.” Barnabas gets a I can’t
understand (ICU). Joe explains about Sarah, mentioning Sarah brought Sam to
Maggie. Joe gets an IDK.
Carolyn
thinks they should phone Liz and Roger. Vicki says that they can’t do anything
from Boston.
When
Barnabas can’t find Willie at the Old House, he yells for him.
Barnabas
gets two IDKs.
Willie asks
what Barnabas will do. “Well, you wouldn’t harm him would you?” and he says,
“He’s only a little boy and a Collins. Well, you wouldn’t harm a member of your
own family, would you?”
It’s almost
six hours since David left.
Vicki
remembers seeing a little girl at the top of the stairs during the costume
party and realizes now, that she really did see her and that it was Sarah. Joe
is smoking.
In an tense
scene, Joe and the sheriff go to the Old House just as the sun starts to rise,
forcing Barnabas to have to wait until the last second before he goes to his
coffin.
“Why would
he come finding her here?” What?
Willie’s
checkered reddish shirt. Karlen looks particularly good in this episode.
Barnabas
gets two I KNOWS.
Joe found a
lot of empty rooms. Barnabas makes excuses about the basement/cellar locked and
says he lost the key Elizabeth gave him and he does not want them to knock the
door in. Barnabas flubs that it is impossible for Willie…eh, David to get down
there.
“…so you
possibly can’t get down through the door…”
What? Another flub! Hilarious.
As Barnabas
makes excuses his face is at the 6am clock. Carolyn gets him out of this
without realizing it (Joe could repair the door after he knocked it in). They
don’t feel the need to break the door in as a woman thought she saw David on
the road outside of town. This woman spotted a little boy fitting David’s
description several hours ago walking along the beach road about two miles
outside of town.
Willie flub?
As the sun is about to rise any second, Willie says, “But you gotta start your
search for David.” Barnabas says yes but he wants Willie to continue the
search. What?
Barnabas
orders Willie to find David and bring him here and he will decide what to do
next. Willie watches Barnabas go…
Despite all
the flubs, another good episode but are we supposed to worry about Barnabas as
the sun comes up? We almost do but he’s so bad…most of the time. And yet this
is a tense episode and scene. I’m NOT rooting for Barnabas to be honest.

Vicki. Reprise is different with
different dialog. Vicki says, "I look
upon him as if he were my little
brother." Carolyn and Joe return, Carolyn
calling, this prompts Barnabas to stop
and go off into a corner to control
himself possibly. He says, "Good
evening" to them. Sure sign that Malcolm
is not writing this. Barnabas is using
the teleprompter. Joe tells
Barnabas all about Sam and Sarah, that
she told him where to find Maggie
on that beach. Vicki and Carolyn discuss
calling Roger and Liz who are in
Boston but they don't yet. Barnabas is
gone after Joe leaves. Carolyn
notices he usually does not leave so
abruptly. The curtains are once again
blowing from the inside. Barnabas returns
to the Old House and looks
around. He calls for Willie a few times
in what must be filler. It takes a
long time.
Barnabas and Willie talk. It takes a long
time. Willie is worried for
David and that Barnabas might harm the
little boy. Willie asks if he'd
harm a member of his own family. Barnabas
says it would be regrettable.
Collinwood: Joe smokes. Patterson arrives
and suggests David might have
been kidnapped. Joe suggests they go to
the Old House and it would be like
David to go play where he's forbidden to
go. "Knowing David that would
give him more a reason to go there."
Joe and Patterson go to the Old House.
Carolyn and Vicki wait in the drawing
room and what seems like a bunch of
dialog-less filler.
Barnabas and Willie talk amid long pauses
between them as if again, one or
the other or both of them have lost their
place in the script, forgotten
their lines, stepped on each other's
cues, etc. Then the door knocks come
and it is Patterson and Joe, there when
the sun is about to rise. I must
admit in the past, this created no
tension for me as I wanted the creepy
Barnabas to get caught but now...it sort
makes me feel a bit, a small bit sorry
for him. I also must admit the 1991 TV
show did this scene better as
Barnabas says he is sick and we see him
sizzling in the sun's rays as the
Sheriff is there. In any event, when
Patterson asks if he minds them
searching, Barnabas flubs, "Not at
all", then protests, "My house? Here?
Why?" and "why would he come
finding her here?" Joe suggests there are
many places kids could sneak in and maybe
the two of them have done it
before such as when Vicki saw Sarah at
the top of the stairs. In a long,
tense sequence, Barnabas and a more
nervous Willie try to dissuade the two
men from searching. As the two men search
different places, Willie and
Barnabas talk. Barnabas flubs again,
"You were making them suspicion as it
was." Willie also flubs when he
says, "What happens when they search the
coffin..." but it is possible he
says, "...search the coffin room..." The
rooster (cock?) crows.
Boom mike shadow. The cellar is locked
and Barnabas tells the two men that
it is "impossible for Willie...ech,
David," in another flub. He has lost
the key he claims after Liz gave him a
bunch of keys. He's misplaced it,
he claims. Joe suggests breaking the door
down and that he can replace the
door later. Barnabas will not let him but
just as the two men seem intent
on doing this, Carolyn arrives and tells
them a deputy called and told
them that there is a lead on David and
where the boy might be. An old
woman claims she saw a boy fitting
David's description on the beach. As
they leave Patterson asks Barnabas if he
will join them. He declines.
Before he retires to his coffin, he tells
Willie to find David first and
bring him here. The credits have the
"Reserved" at the very end shaky and
at the bottom partly invisible.
A shaky episode with flubs galore from the
men and camera flubs and white walls and what seems like
lots of filler with the ladies not
talking and Barnabas roaming the Old
House drawing room for a lot of moments
before screaming for Willie.
Still, having David in trouble for a lot
of eps is no bad thing. He no
longer really deserves it but it seems
like karma for locking Vicki in one
room and then waiting a long time to tell
others about her being locked in
the Old House with Maggie. It would also
serve Vicki right (if Barnabas
bit her) for being so stupid toward
Burke. The flubs make it kind of funny
and it's not boring but also not great
either.
