THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY season two-eps 4 and 5

Very fun. Very entertaining. More greatness.

More greatness. Fights. A dad sighting. And Five and the Handler meet. The dialog this season is more snappy and less gimmicky and everyone gets great and funny lines, especially Diego and his new found girl, who is really the Handler’s daughter. Klaus still has the best lines but Five and Diego seem to nearly reach his heights but not quite yet. They’re all funny and funnier when they finally come together in episode 4 and 5.

Anyone notice that when Luthor and Allison hug…it is filmed so that all the patrons still outside at the tables and chairs all vanish and then reappear as if no one else exists for this trouble “couple”. These episodes are less “black lives matter” though than the last three

This being a modern and Netflix show the prerequisite gay relationship is here and as usual it’s a lesbian one as if audiences can accept female to female relationships more than male to male ones (they can and do, unfortunately). Of course Klaus is gay and tries to warn his Vietnam love…quite a few years before Vietnam, not to enlist and even seems to come right out and say that in front of the young man’s seemingly closeted and homophobic uncle…and gets promptly beat up and then, sadly and predictably goes and gets drunk.

I do wish that Vanya and her new “love” the farm mom would have only been friends. I’m tired of it always having to go that way in these shows and also tired it’s always the females.

The rest is as unpredictable as ever and wonderful. Allison has a great rapport with Klaus and Tanya, finally and then later does something I didn’t think she’s do this early or even this season: come clean with the what she says is the whole story …telling her husband everything. This will happen in ep6 so I hope she’s not interrupted or the writers are not fooling us as we’ve seen this happen in other shows (DARK SHADOWS comes to mind when Barnabas and Julia say they are going to Stokes and telling him everything and the next seven eps or so, it’s all forgotten that ever was said!).

In short (!), this season is far better than last season. More happen, it is brighter and yet dark at times and sometimes the pace is a lot faster. Unexpected things happen and it has laugh out loud moments (most of them from Klaus but also the others as well). I like that sometimes Five is referred to as a kid and sometimes a 58 year old man.

Brilliant and interesting series that is finally hitting its mark every ep.

Oh and Vanya’s clearing of the lake to save mute boy Harlon is amazing!

Oh and I don’t think they could find a more handsome actor for Diego.

Oh and …Robert Sheehan is a force to be reckoned with. He is infinitely watchable …and funny…I never thought it would be possible for him to be funnier, wittier, and more watchable than he was in MISFITS but here…OMG. He’s brill in EVERY scene.

Oh and Ben. All I’m saying.
