RAMPAGE

RAMPAGE

The Roc…uh, Dwayne Johnson, can really do no wrong. I love all his movies so maybe I’m biased. Yes, the action is far-fetched and no one would survive some of wild ride stunts and fights and crashes he and his friends do in these movies, especially here and probably in SKYSCRAPER, too but his movies are fun rides, adventures, popcorn movies with a lot of emotion, love, care, action, and fast pace.

RAMPAGE is no different. It is all of those things. The effects are flawless. The monsters hideous and dangerous and they DO kill people. A whole city seems destroyed at one point. The action is amped up and we have plane crashes, wolf hunts, battles between the military and the monsters, between the monsters and the monsters, buildings coming down, and escaping beasts, sometimes all at once. Yes, it’s over the top most of the time but fun nevertheless. If you’ve ever seen one of the better KING KONG, MIGHTY JOE YOUNG, GODZILLA or other giant monster movies, you get all that and a more put together plot.

It looks good and is a comic book movie. I like those. Yet, deeper there is an emotional connection between a big, tough man and his friend, a large albino ape which is both touching and funny. There is also the fact that the Rock’s character doesn’t like humans very much and needs to come out of that.

I will say for a movie like this, yes, there was some predictable parts but overall, a lot more surprises.

Love Naomi Harris. Love Jeffry Dean Stanton as a sort of antagonist…there are a few villains there too but without giving anything away, most of them surprised me, especially Stanton’s.

If you want a fun adventure monster movie, I would give this a try.
