“And they call me a devil?”

“…and I’ve been through hell on occasions…”

 “…I may have to play devil’s advocate.”

 

“You? Where does that leave me?”

“Amphetamines, barbiturates, ergots, morphine, there are enough drugs here to keep the entire hippy population happy well on their way to flower heaven.”

 

No narration! Jac pssstts Jean over to him and spars with him, sarcastically going over the fact that Jean loves his wife Erica who is dearly departed but longs for her newly arrived sister Erica. “And they call me a devil?” He laughs.

 

Allison vs Jean Paul over him taking tranquilizers when she comes down the steps and finds him suffering from a headache. He doesn’t want to take pills but she insists and when he says he doesn’t take orders, she requests it. She wants to prescribe something stronger if the headaches persist. He brings up that Quito will get something.

 

He takes the pill or pills. Dan comes down and makes jokes and insinuations while Allison wanted to go find Analgesics which are stronger and which might be in Dr. Mankin’s laboratory. She refers to Dan’s references to what he thought he saw. BUT he could not see anything because Jean Paul and she did NOTHING.

 

Analgesics, commonly known as painkillers, are medications designed to relieve pain by either reducing inflammation or altering the way the brain perceives pain.

 

More bad dialog, this time from Dan about the house, comparing it to an armed fortress and the only defense they have against it is pot shots. “That’s no way to win a war.”  What is he on?

 

The Jac portrait goes black again…and is this so everyone can see it or just the viewers, letting them know that Jac is taking over Jean again? I’m not sure we ever find out. Or is it just Jean that sees it? Jac takes over Jean who reacts to Dan.

 

Jac tells him to have his last hearty meal if he is determined to go. “That’s only for prisoners condemned to death,” Dan says.

 

Jac, the trickster (?), says, “Remember, you said it.”

 

Raxl goes down to talk to Erica’s cryo chamber, going over what’s happening for her and us.

 

Jac fakes he still has a headache…as Jean. No one can possibly believe his act.

She looks at some kind of plaque on a tomb (?) of Jac Des Demond and orders pain driven through his temple…of the silver pin.

 

Jac calls Dan out for putting a hex on him but then takes it back as a bad attempt as humor. Dan and he parlay words back and forth. Dan claims he was fired but Jac says he was rehired. Jac also claims the are not prisoners here. Dan thinks he should leave to look after Jean’s world wide interests again.

 

“Tragic as it may seem,” Dan starts to reveal the legal problem Jean is in, “…I may have to play devil’s advocate.”

 

“You?” Jac jokes, “Where does that leave me?”

 

Dan brings up the unreported death and also the death of Dr. Mankin. He claims he wants to prove it was an accident.

 

Raxl prays to the priestess of the serpent to free them all of the curse of the demon.  Allison helps Jean Paul now taken over by Jac toward the lab but he feels more pain, “It’s like the devil,” he tells her.

 

In the very white walled white lab, Allison finds a lot of drugs in an unlocked cabinet, well stocked. She mentions there are enough drugs to send the hippy population to flower heaven.

 

“Amphetamines, barbiturates, ergots, morphine, there are enough drugs here to keep the entire hippy population happy well on their way to flower heaven.”

 

Jac has a fear of needles and knows well that one to his temple would kill him.

 

Dan questions Raxl. Before Erica died, Jean was happy.

 

Freezing Erica was not Menkin’s doctor. She has more to tell him but she dare not.

 

Dan tells her she has nothing to fear from Dan. “You are not the devil,” she snaps. What?

 

Allison says of Jean’s fear of the needle, “Don’t tell me you’re afraid.” But he already had.

 

This makes Jac leave and Jean return, who questions her thinking he is afraid to look at the injection. “You seem like a different man,” she comments. Duh! HULLO?

 

“Fair is fair,” Jac, the portrait back up, says, “I got my needle centuries ago. Now, it’s his turn.” Who is he talking to?

 

Allison wants him to consider psycho therapy to alleviate the migraines. He brings up the fact that she can help find a cure for migraines (?) and that leads to him offering her the lab twice and that leads to a discussion of her experiment back home. That somehow leads to him asking her ot help him bring Erica back. That leads to him discussing a scientist finding a way to create organic life, to synthesize organic life, and he asks why shouldn’t it be here? WHAT is he talking about?

 

She talks of years before any cell they might create could reproduce itself.

 

Allison brings up how Erica died and that the damage would be severe.

 

 Eclampsia: This is a severe progression of preeclampsia, characterized by the occurrence of seizures in a woman who has preeclampsia. Eclampsia can be life-threatening for both the mother and the baby if not treated promptly.

 

I forgot: was Erica pregnant?

 

He stororms out, tells Dan to leave him alone and orders Raxl he is not to be disturbed. She says, “Wee Misère.” Or something like that. Dan asks a chasing Allison, who goes after Jean, what got into him all of a sudden.

 

Despite Dan wanting Allison to leave with him, she rants that she feels now she must stay.

 

Raxl advises him not to do as Allison says. “Run, all of you. Run as fast as you can. While you still can.”

 

As the TO BE CONITINUED screen comes up, Dan touches his own forehead as if he has a headache and Raxl goes up the steps.

 

Gosh, still like watching paint dry. The same things over and over and over. And this episode isn’t even so bad it’s funny, it’s just boring. The dialog still makes little sense.

 

 

 

EPISODE 21

Jean Paul descends the stairs. Jacques calls to him and asks what happened last night. He chastises Jean Paul for not having his way with Alison and taunts him for longing for her.

 

Alison descends the stairs and asks Jean Paul what is wrong. He says he has a headache.

 

She asks him if he has them often, suggesting they are due to his nerves. She asks where the tranquilizers are but Jean Paul says he doesn’t want to take them. “I can’t spend my life popping pills into my mouth.”

 

 

He claims when Erica returns he will be OK. Alison asks that he take the tranquilizers so he does. Jean Paul asks why she is so concerned.

 

Alison says it’s because she took an oath and offers to help him. Jacques again taunts Jean Paul, telling him to let Alison operate, sarcastically speaking to the infatuation the two seem to have for each other now.

 

 

 

Jean Paul is interested in Alison’s offer of help and mentions Menkin’s lab but before Alison can find out more, Dan appears.

 

Dan senses that Alison has some sort of romantic interest in Jean Paul yet Alison tells him he’s incorrect. Jean Paul accuses him of having a vivid imagination.

 

Dan is upset about being a virtual prisoner and says he just wants out - secrecy is not a good enough reason to keep them there. Jean Paul puts the glass of water to his head. The inner painting of Jac vanishes from the frame as Jac possesses Jean Paul again.

 

Does no one else see this? Is it a viewer only thing? Just for Jean Paul? Is it even there?

 

At that moment, Jacques possesses Jean Paul and he invites Dan to breakfast before he goes - a last meal so to speak. “I invite you to have your last hardy meal.”

 

Dan says it’s only for those condemned to death and Jean Paul implies that he is correct.

 

Dan says he will get to the bottom of what is going on on Maljardin and Jean Paul/Jacques backs down, blaming his headache for lack of clear thinking. Dan wonders why he is so unlike himself.

 

 

In the crypt, Raxl asks Erica what they are to do. She says Jacques is everywhere and she doesn’t know how to proceed. She speaks to Jacques’ coffin and wishes she could find the silver pin and conjure doll.

 

Upstairs, Jean Paul experiences further pain. Alison wants to alleviate the pain. Dan says neither he nor Alison will stay. Jean Paul apologizes for his behavior and asks them not to run out.

 

Dan says he was fired, but Jean Paul tells him he has now rehired him.

 

Dan persists, saying he needs to leave due to a legal matter he has to handle—an unreported death. Jean Paul says that Erica’s death was reported medically by Menkin.

 

 

Not to be put off, Dan says he also needs to prove Menkin’s death was an accident so no one is to blame.

 

In the crypt, Raxl prays to the great serpent to free them all from the clutches of evil.

 

Meanwhile, Alison asks where the lab is. Jean Paul agrees to show her, wondering how he could get along with out her. They leave. Raxl continues to pray for a miracle. Jean Paul’s headache continues.

 

Jean Paul shows Alison the lab.

 

 

Alison finds it well stocked with amphetamines, barbiturates, morphine, etc.

 

She asks if Menkin gave him a needle. Jean Paul confesses to being scared of needles, especially one in the temple. Alison looks for a file on his medical history and finds one in the cabinet.

 

In the main hall, Dan asks Raxl for information and says he is Jean Paul’s best friend. He asks if there has been a change in Jean Paul since Erica’s death and asks if this has ever happened before. Raxl says no.

 

Dan asks if cryonics was a sudden decision and Raxl says she doesn’t know about the speed of the decision, but she can tell him that it was not Menkin’s decision. However, she is afraid to say more.

 

In the lab, Alison prepares to give Jean Paul an injection. Jean Paul/Jacques fears the needle and Jacques leaves him before the injection, telling Jean Paul he got his needle centuries ago so now it’s his turn.

 

Jean Paul tells Alison the lab is all hers to use. Alison says she doesn’t belong there. Jean Paul’s headache subsides and Alison tells him that psychotherapy is the most effective treatment.

 

Jean Paul says since Alison is an expert in research she can come up with a cure for headaches or even to bring Erica back. Alison dismisses it. Jean Paul tells her that she can recreate the parts of Erica that were damaged. Astonished, Alison refuses.

 

Dan enters, trying to talk to Jean Paul but he tells him to leave him alone and storms upstairs. Alison tells Dan she must stay on the island longer.

 

Raxl enters and tells Dan not to stay but to run away - while he still can. See less
