DARK SHADOWS 597

DARK SHADOWS  597

“How strange you all are, to spend your time this way, with questions.”

Grayson. Peace at Collinwood on this starless night is an illusion. Different dialog.

Adam gets his same IDU. Adam says to Stokes, “I have reason to believe you are no longer a friend of mine.”  Clunk at end of theme.

Barnabas to Adam about whether or not Stokes is correct, “I honestly don’t know.”

Adam realizes he cannot stop Stokes from trying to question Eve or finding proof. UHM, YEAH HE CAN. HE CAN KILL  HIM. Adam laments, “You make me feel as if there’s so much I don’t know.”  He says this twice.

A blue light or green line up and down plagues the set. He warns them he will hold them responsible if anything happens to her when they question her.

Barnabas flub, “We shouldn’t have let her…him go to her.”

Adam hits the coat on the hanger by mistake on his way up. Eve manipulates him. Eve detects that Adam minds that he is different from the others. Adam calls her Leona. He asks her about Blair.

She turns away from Adam. Eve says, “I do not kiss men who are weak.” Great, another biatch.

Barnabas and Stokes come in. She asks her name and they tell her it is Eve, a name she would not have chosen for herself. She tells them, “I cannot explain my mind to you. I do not know it well enough myself.”

Stokes mentions French things to her and tries to catch her in a lie: Marie Antoinette and guillotine. There seems to be something odd about this: Stokes claims Eve sounds French when she does not in front of them.

Eve on Barnabas and Stokes, “How strange you all are, to spend your time this way. With questions.”   She is used to her questions being answered. Barnabas asks when was she used to that. She says, “I don’t  know. I don’t know.”

Downstairs, Julia drinks coffee or tea and talks to Adam. Adam mentions he used to trust Stokes. “Now, he’s Barnabas’s friend.”

Julia says a curious thing, “No, Adam, he’s not Barnabas’ friend, anymore than…than he’s your friend or my friend.”

He asks if she believes Stokes’ story. Julia: “I don’t know what I think.”  Adam thinks she is lying, “You always have an opinion.”  “Not this time,”  she says. For a bit, they were almost friendly

Barnabas doesn’t believe everything Eve says and yet he says “yet I don’t know why.”  He thinks she is capable of almost anything.

In the drawing room, Stokes asks Adam about Leona and how he met her and if she knows someone else. The doors open, the candles would be wasted if Julia relit them, and the chandelier shakes. The cellar door…WHICH WE SEE THE WALL TO UPSTAIRS for maybe the first time (?) opens.

The visitation leads them to go down stairs. Barnabas, Stokes and Julia go down and see that the body of Leona is gone. Does that make any sense? In any case, they don’t realize until it is too late that Adam is not with them.

Stokes becomes the anti Mr. Spock when he says, “When you deal with spirits do not expect the logical.”   Stokes asks where is Adam and Julia thinks he went to eat. What? A ghost is in the house and she thinks instead of following it down with them, if that is what they did or it did, he would go eat?

They race to Josette’s room (which is unusually dark) and find that Eve and Adam are both gone. Stokes thinks he knows one place they might be.

Oh and in this ep Stokes goes on about how he’s never wrong, and about how Adam knows that he rarely makes a mistake and about how he doesn’t think (put in a good quality of humble here) that is a saving grace.

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:

When Adam goes upstairs, Barnabas tells Stokes, “You shouldn’t have let her — him go to her.”

When Barnabas and Stokes sit down in Josette’s room, you can see a studio light on the floor, behind Stokes’ chair. About ten seconds later, you can see the boom mic hanging well into the frame.

Eve tells Stokes and Barnabas that she doesn’t remember anything before she woke up, and Barnabas says, “But you must.” Eve counters, “How can I remember? When I have no — memory, if I did not exist.”

There are 13 episodes that take place during this one evening, from episode 585 through today, episode 597. It’s been a long night.

  • After the opening narration and before Professor Stokes speaks, there is a loud clacking sound from off-stage. [There is a long pause after the narration with everyone standing still before Stokes speaks. The off-stage sound may have been someone trying to get Thayer David to start the scene. ]
  • In 594, precisely at 3:00 am as Barnabas waits in front of the mantel looking at the clock, Leona Eltridge knocks at the door announcing that she has come to be the life force. This is important because in this episode when Barnabas, Professor Stokes and Adam discuss Eve, as the clock on the mantel will show, it is approximately 3:03 am, suggesting the events of 595, 596 and the beginning of this episode take only a few minutes. As Professor Stokes and Adam argue about whether Eve is evil or not, Adam states that she hasn't been alive even one hour which means the start of the experiment had to have taken place well before 3:00 am. [Additional notes: The mantel clock on the previous episode read 4:15 am. In addition, Nicholas Blair told the ghost of Danielle Roget that she was to appear to him in his basement at 3:00 am, so it would have been impossible for Adam and Leona Eltridge to make it to the Old House by 3:00 or 3:03. Obviously, the mantel clock was not set for the scenes with any precision or concern for this level of continuity.]
  • In Act I, when Adam is saying Professor Stokes makes him feel as he felt when he first came to Stokes, there is a lot of off-stage noise.
  • When Adam begins talking with Eve in Josette's room, a boom mic shadow can be seen moving on the wall.
  • When Professor Stokes and Barnabas go to question Eve, a studio light is seen on the floor; later, the boom microphone dips into the shot.
  • Jonathan Frid flubs: "You shouldn't have let her... him go to her."
  • Thayer David begins a line too early when Stokes and Barnabas are talking to Eve. After Barnabas asks Eve if she remembers something since coming into Josette's room, Stokes begins to say, "Well, then..." before Eve says "No."
  • When Julia and Adam are talking in the parlor while Barnabas and Stokes are upstairs talking to Eve, there is a lot of off-stage noise.
