“I know I’ve done some terrible things to you in the past.”

 

“Barnabas, we’re your friends. We’re going to keep you safe.”

 

“I’m getting more and more confused by the moment.”

 

“Maggie, when a woman has a man in her power, there’s no telling what he might do.”

 

“Barnabas, please, don’t look at me like that.”

 

 

KLS. The narration  talks of a sky red. Same reprise. Same Barnabas voice over. And this time the entire reprise looks exactly the same as the last week’s. And it’s long at 3:32.

 

Julia calls for Willie, frantic. When Willie gets to her and sees the marks, he is worried, too. They thought he was safe forever.

 

He asks what do they do. She says, “I don’t know.”  He asks who did this. She says, “I just don’t know anymore.”  Willie asks if he is summoned who will he go to. Julia’s answer: IDK.

 

 

 

 

She makes Willie take him to the cell in the basement. Why not take him to Windcliff? Why not blame it on the attacker from last year?

 

NOTE: WHY is no one brandishing crosses, locking doors, using holy water, garlic or at the very least mirrors? Or holding stakes? Or staying together? They know there is a vampire loose.

 

In the cell with Willie and as Julia watches from the cell window, Barnabas tells them he knows they just want to torture him. He knows he was terrible to Willie in the past. Willie keeps telling him that the two of them (he and Julia) are friends with Barnabas.

 

Julia tries to get who it is out of him but Willie tells her that she couldn’t tell who it was that bit her and Willie admits he couldn’t tell when it was him attacked by Barnabas.

 

Maggie has forgotten Nicholas Blair was coming over tonight and he was waiting for her. He doesn’t seem to mind. He asks her what delayed her and is bothering her. “I don’t know where to begin,” is her answer.

 

The Afghan is on the couch.

 

When she explains the recent developments in Joe’s downfall, Blair says they both knew Joe was heading for disaster for some time. Maggie says, “I don’t know how I feel.”

 

 

He thinks now that Joe is dead, Maggie can get on with some decisions of her own. Maggie tells him Joe is not dead.

 

When she tells him Joe tried to strangle Barnabas, Blair says, “But that’s impossible.”  One of Maggie’s round lights blinks. Blair calls Joe “poor fellow.” 

 

Maggie asks Nicholas to take her to Barnabas right now and he tries to get out of it but then will take her when she insists. “I’ll never understand how this could have happened to Joe.”

 

NOTE: Astredo is so very good as Blair he makes him totally real but he’s also seemingly caring about Maggie AND Joe but it’s a lie, at least the Joe part. Nicholas really does love Maggie or seems that way and he’s only telling Maggie that he thinks it is harsh of her to not care about Joe at all anymore, or be concerned about him. Her sympathy she tells him can only go so far. He thinks that she does still care about him but she denies it and wants to be totally free of him and Nicholas thinks it is good she is making a clean break of him. WOW!

 

 

She feels she could have warned Barnabas before Joe attacked him. Nicholas still thinks staying home is best for Maggie but when she insists, he says, “I’m yours to command.”                

 

It seems to be 7pm. Julia has a blue dress. Blair helps Julia with an excuse for why Maggie cannot see Barnabas. She claims he is all right but resting, with Blair helping provide that resting reason.

 

When Maggie moves from the clock, it is blurry but the time seems to have changed by too much time. It seems to be 7:40? They hear the dogs but oddly Maggie doesn’t seem to take any heed of them, which is odd in and of itself..

 

NOTE: is Nicholas doing something to make Maggie not hear the dog howling or remember it or both? Both he and Julia and Willie and Barnabas hear it. AND BTW, Karlen and Frid play up the Willie/Barnabas master/former slave to vampire servant relationship up against their new friendship very, very well in an even stronger rapport than before.

 

Willie has a cross over the cell door from the inside. At first, Barnabas is saying nothing to him which unnerves him. Willie keeps talking to Barnabas. Barnabas says something like, “…as your master I cannot command you.”  He begs Willie over and over again to let him go.

 

Maggie tells Julia she knows Barnabas is not here. Julia tells her that Barnabas has gone out GIVING US THE FIRST TIME a lie was not the first thing she told…she told the truth, Maggie didn’t believe it so then she told the lie that Maggie was set to believe in the first place!!!

 

Maggie asks where Barnabas went and Julia answers, “I don’t know.” 

 

Barnabas voice over.

 

Maggie found a way out, he recalls, a long time ago (last year is a long time ago?) she found a way out, a loose brick, a passage to the sea. Willie tells him that he cannot let him out since Julia locked the door from outside and he does not have the key.

 

Barnabas tells him that he and Julia have thought of everything. Not really. He asks for food but Willie cannot get it. Julia will bring it down soon. He asks for water and when Willie turns his back, Barnabas hits him over the back with a glass candle holder. Or a candle in a bottle?

 

Barnabas then gets to the secret door, which looks FAR smaller than it used to. He has to crouch to get near it.

 

Maggie is sorry to Julia. Blair and Maggie go.

 

Barnabas stands over Willie. Barnabas voice over after a long still pause as the scene comes back and Frid seems unaware the scene was starting. He wished that Willie was his friend and that he is sorry to Willie. He is past the point where friendship is possible.

 

 

He has to bow to get into the small passage, which then goes up and he has to climb up to get in!? That didn’t happen to Maggie from what I recall. Julia finds Willie and hears the dogs.

 

During the credits, a long shadow of a person is seen and moves away.

 

Review: the Willie, Julia, Barnabas friendship is put to the test and does a great job entertaining us.

 

BTW where was Willie all the times Angelique appears in the Old House or when Joe attacked Barnabas or when Harry snuck in or when Barnabas tried to kill Joe? Willie? Was he on vacation?

 

In addition these past two episodes show us what Frid (I think) used to call the “scary lie” that DS so excelled at. EVERYONE in DS seems to lie and look right at the person they are lying at and doing it so well they almost believe their own lie.

 

To look right at someone and lie to them, even if you like them, is scary. It happens in the real world so often and that is why it is scary. It’s also highly annoying. There seems to be no one in DS you can like that doesn’t do this. Vicki does it least but she does do it. Maggie doesn’t do it purposely either I do not think.

 

Blair is …strange around Maggie. He seems almost human, almost NOT evil. It’s an interesting performance and as he says, Maggie seems to be in control of him rather than he of her.   

 

Today’s realization: I don’t remember this episode AT ALL. But it was fascinatingly entertaining, even though it is mostly all talk. A great episode.
