DARK SHADOWS 610

DARK SHADOWS  610

Joan. Narration says Eve knew Jeff/Peter in the year 1795. Reprise. New Material.

“Who are  you?”  Eve tells Jeff, “I was right. You are Peter. Peter Bradford.”  Theme.

Eve watched him die.

Jeff gets a “IDK what you’re talking about.” AND a “IDK who you are.”  Jeff laughs it off as a joke for a moment. She repeats he is Peter and he rants that he is Jeff Clark, “Do you understand?”

Jeff asks, “Why are you here?”  “I don’t know, I can’t remember anything except you.”  What? She knew before, didn’t she? WT?

Eve answers, “I don’t know how I know who you are. I don’t know why we’ve been brought together again. My memories so dim and it was so long ago. But I haven’t made a mistake. You are Peter Bradford, my Peter Bradford and I won’t rest until we’re together again.”

Vicki finds Liz doing her correspondence in the drawing room. Liz wants to thank Jeff. Her doctor told her to keep her mind occupied “We all care about what happens to you.”  Liz wants to thank Jeff for what he did for her the other evening. Vicki tells her he is coming here tonight and they are going to see a movie.

NOTE: wasn’t Jeff waiting for her for some time now as last episode he told Carolyn and Carolyn went inside AND then David and Jeff talked? AND then Eve saw him. Wasn’t Vicki getting ready and knew Jeff was outside waiting for her? Vicki is either forgetting all this or doesn’t know he is outside? WT?

During this scene, Vicki who was going to wait,  tells Liz that not only is she seeing Jeff again but that they are going to get married and the wedding plans of Vicki’s will help Liz keep her mind occupied…if she can help with the wedding. Vicki agrees she can. Liz hopes to be alive on the wedding day. Liz fears being buried alive. Right after Vicki tells Liz, Liz flubs, “Then you’ve resolved all your difficul…differences and difficulties?”

When Liz asks if the wedding date will be soon, Vicki’s answer: IDK.

Liz tells Vicki even in her best moments she can’t help but dwell on the fear of death. Vicki: “I don’t understand it. I understand about fear but fear has to be caused by something.”

“I know.”

Vicki knows Liz is not going to die. Liz says Vicki and the doctor are in complete agreement. The doctor said she is in excellent physical condition. Liz is sure she will collapse again and feels she may find she’s been buried alive.

Vicki  goes to Jeff late and they will leave to go to a movie. Jeff admits he is jittery but bluffs that it is that he is going to start a new job and he does not want to let Roger Collins down again. Vicki thought he was acting the way he did a few weeks ago, his mind is somewhere else.

Eve watches the pair and then watches them leave. Liz sees Eve and thinks she knows who Eve is: the angel of death come to warn her. Eve flees.

Eve is scolded by Blair once back at the House by the Sea. Eve mentions a fight with Carolyn but it was more with Adam as she later says.

Eve is sarcastic and mocks him, “Poppa Nicholas.”  He slaps her. Eve says, “I hate you.”  He can do without her sarcasm.

Eve thinks Adam is like a spoiled child but Blair repeats to her that she can hate him but make Adam think she does not. She asks him “Who was I?”

She tells him about Jeff Clark being Peter Bradford.

Blair worries that there are forces at work that he does not know about. She says IDU. He puts her into a trance to find out more. Eve says, “My mind is a void.”  Yup. It sure is. He takes her back to another time, another place, almost 200 years. So, wait, it’s about 1767? What?

In her mind, a scene from the past plays out. It might be 1795. In it, Peter says, “I don’t know.”  The eye point of view is an effect with Vaseline on the lens of the camera.

Eve tells Peter that she killed Philip for him. She asks he can understand that. “I’ll never understand.”  Phillepe would have kept them apart so she killed him for them. She watched the spilling of blood for four years during the (French?) Revolution. He did love her once.

Peter is disgusted by her and tells her he will give her until tomorrow morning to tell the police so she can get out of Collinsport. He seems intense about Philip and angry that she killed him and yet because he once loved her he will give her that chance to get out of Collinsport. (Was Peter in love with Phillip?). He tells her to get out of his life and he never wants to see her again.

Eve comes out of the trance, “He is Peter Bradford. And I love him!”

Wait? What? Eve seems to not mind that Peter turned her in, wants her out of his life AND tells her he never wants to see her again. Yet when she comes out of it she seems happy that he is Peter Bradford.

For her part, Eve, though, having murdered Phillip and somewhat in line with what’s gone before via Leona’s history, hardly seems in the past to be…the evil soulless woman that they tried to make Leona out to be. Eve might be selfish and a killer but she killed for love, not because she was the most evil killer in history as was stated before.

Also: Eve seems in the beginning of this NOT to know much or anything about who she was which is also NOT in line with what went before regarding Leona and what Eve knew. Sort of?

Uneven and this time, though not a terrible episode, it took me forever to get through this one.

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:

Jeff asks Eve, “What are you doing in Collinwood, why are you here?” He either means “in Collinsport” or “at Collinwood”.

Vicki tells Liz that she and Jeff are going to be married. Liz says, “Then you’ve resolved all your difficult — differences. And difficulties.”

When Vicki comes out onto the terrace at the beginning of act 2, the camera starts to follow Jeff — and bumps into the fountain.

After Eve runs off, the camera lingers on Liz as she watches the mysterious woman go. It lingers too long, until Liz finally turns to peek and see if the camera is still on her.

FROM DARK SHADOWS BEFORE:

Our thoughts

John: It seems like it has been a while since we've see one of Jeff's frustrated head grabs!

Christine: His most recent head clutching was in Episode 582, which means he's appeared in about four episodes since then where the dramatic head grasp was not employed.

John: Which movie do you think Jeff took Vicki to tonight? I'd like to think they saw Night of the Living Dead, but knowing Jeff, they probably saw Romeo and Juliet.

  • Barbarella
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Rosemary's Baby
  • Bullitt
  • Night of the Living Dead
  • Once Upon a Time in the West
  • Romeo and Juliet
  • Planet of the Apes

Christine: I think Vicki probably wanted to see Oliver! but Jeff took her to Ice Station Zebra instead. On the other hand, he may have taken her to Night of the Living Dead just so she'd get scared and cuddle up.

John: It certainly seems like everything is being set up for another flashback. It will be interesting to see how they reconcile Peter Bradford's story.

Christine: So, let me get this straight. Bradford was having an affair with Danielle Roget and got bent out of shape because she killed her lover, Phillipe Cordiet, to prevent him from killing Peter, which must have happened before he met Vicki. It sounds like another Angelique-Barnabas one sided love affair. What was up with him holding his fist up to her? Was he thinking of punching her? One thing we know for certain is that these two will be trying to one-up each other in the over the top acting department.
