“Barnabas Collins has certain
eccentricities.”
“Yes, I’ve noticed that.”
“The most annoying of which
is his stubborn refusal to surrender to any of the technological advances of
the last 100 years.”
“He’s a most unusual man.”
“There’s no question that we
are all in danger, especially, Barnabas.”
Lara Parker. The stills are
now a bit different and are day shots. Julia goes to Barnabas at the Old House
and tells him to cancel the plan…if he goes through with this, Blair will kill
him.
Barnabas Teleprompter. It is
1:30 PM. I fail to understand why Barnabas knowing what he knows about the supernatural,
fails to see Julia’s dream as a warning. His dismissal of it and his, “I will
not be in danger,” makes no sense. He’s going to Nicholas Blair’s house! Sure, Blair
is not an out and out of the closet threat where he kills on sight but…he is
dangerous.
Stokes pays an uninvited
visit to Blair’s house. Blair seems to be waiting for him, with two glasses of sherry
and a look of knowing when the knock does come. Stokes says, “Good afternoon,
Mr. Blair.”
Acting like he’s surprised, Blair
tells him that Carolyn and he have had a discussion about Stokes (at great
length) on evening and Blair knows that Cherrie is his drink. Stokes:
“Interesting.”
Stokes has come to extend an
invite from Barnabas to Blair for a dinner party. Blair is surprised or acts
that way, saying he didn’t think Barnabas on the few occasions they met, liked
him. Stokes felt the same way about Barnabas when he first met him but now they
are good friends.
Stokes mentions Barnabas’s
eccentricities. “Yes, I’ve noticed that,”
Blair says. AS IF THE TWO OF THEM ARE NOT ECCENTRIC TOO.
Blair wonders why he sent
Stokes. Stokes tells him that Barnabas has no phone or electricity. Blair
thinks someone who loves the past that much would have much to talk to him
about but Stokes warns that Barnabas is touchy about that subject. Dining late is
also one of Barnabas’s eccentricities: the invite is for
Stokes mentions the house as
a period piece fascinates him and he would have visited sooner had he known
about that. It has individuality, style and elegance. Blair offers to take him
a tour of the entire house. When it is done and they descend the steps, the
stair case banister shakes wildly. A hall light seems tilted.
At
There are three rooms on the
second floor, the right one is Eve’s (Stokes smelled cologne in it—shouldn’t
that be perfume?); the Master bedroom is at the end of the corridor and it is
over decorated (Barnabas comments that they can talk of Stokes’s fashion
decorating another time and Stokes apologizes).
That room is Blair’s. The one
on the left is Adam’s so Barnabas will have to get past that one first, IF Adam
is in it and not with Eve, as Julia points out he might be. Stokes thinks Eve
has not taken to Adam as Blair had hoped.
Barnabas takes the drawing of
the house Stokes made and says, “I’ll review it earlier…later this
evening…” The 3rd floor Blair uses for
storage (God only knows what he stores!).
The plan is that Julia will
arrive late. She will leave Collinwood at
Flubbing at the name Nicholas
with SSSS coming first, Stokes’s car is in the driveway at the front gate and
Barnabas can take it. The keys are in it. Julia brings up her misgivings and
Barnabas brings up her nightmare. Stokes agrees that “We are all in
danger.” Barnabas Teleprompter.
Barnabas flubs, “Julia, the
man isn’t even aware that he knows what we know about him.” HUH?
To answer Barnabas’s question
about why Nicholas would be suspicious, Julia says, “IDK.”
Stokes is proven wrong AGAIN
as Blair is watching all three of them via the magic mirror.
1796? Stokes mentions Ben
Stokes. Barnabas comes in with drinks and tells Blair that Stokes knows more
about Barnabas’s ancestors than he,
himself knows. He also calls Ben an unfortunate ancestor of Stokes.
Blair now admits that modern
conveniences would destroy the atmosphere of the era that Barnabas has
preserved so well.
They drink to Blair’s good
health. Julia comes in and coughs.
Julia says, “Good evening,
Mr. Blair.”
About Liz, Barnabas flubs,
“She seems grow…to have a growing…” Julia
says she stayed with Liz until Liz’s doctor arrives (a lie).
Julia tells Barnabas that Liz
wants to see Barnabas alone. In their plan, Barnabas asks why Liz wants to see
him and Julia gives IDK as an answer.
Away from Blair, she gives
him the hypo and tells him to be careful as he leaves. She coughs.
A strange handle holder at
Blair’s seems to be a bust of a man!?
Barnabas goes into the room
where Eve is supposed to be and finds in Eve’s bed: pillows. “Hello, Barnabas,”
Angelique says. He turns, in horror,
“Angelique!” She bares her fangs,
smiling. In the reprise either she doesn’t bare them that soon or he didn’t see
them. Here, we see her fangs. The credits are…crooked. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCENES.
Even knowing what was coming,
the scene still packs a punch of chills and excitement. This also seems to me having
aired originally on a Friday afternoon. WHO would not tune in on Monday to see
this? A rather good episode!!!

“It is I, Angelique. Your
bride, the only bride that you will ever have.”
“I will never be rid of you,
will I?”
“Never.”
“As long as I live you’ll
exist to torment me.”
“That’s right. You’ll never
escape me now.”
Grayson. Collinwood residents
sleep peacefully while at the isolated House By The Sea…Barnabas Collins will
face his greatest moment of terror he has ever known.
“It isn’t possible,” he says. Angelique tells him she has been
waiting for the moment for a long time and as she gets nearer, she bares her
fangs and he yells, “NO! NO!!” Then he
screams as she bites him. Different reprise.
She asks him to welcome his
bride. He asks if he will never be rid of her. They both express their hatred
for each other.
Does he have three fang holes
on his neck?
He moves outside the door and
she does not stop him. She looks into a mirror and sees herself!? What? Vampires
are not supposed to appear in mirrors other than a mistake in this show and in
ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN, a great movie.
Barnabas voice over. He runs
for the exit door to outside and she appears outside and as he opens it, comes
in at him. “OH NO!”
Too bad there were no cell
phones, they could call and warn Barnabas. Julia asks what is taking Barnabas
so long. Stokes answers, “I don’t know.”
It is soon
The wounds on Barnabas’ neck
look different, more raised. And gross. Angelique tells him he will come to her
whenever she calls him.
Angelique tells Barnabas that
he and his friends have underestimated Nicholas; that Prof Stokes and Julia
will not suspect a thing. ODDLY, she tells him to tell them the truth but then
to end their suspicions.
The chandelier looks like a
light that is flickering but it is just a reflection. Possibly?
In the hall is a picture of…a
pool house that looks like the one from NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS or maybe it’s the
Blair comes to Angelique as
Barnabas leaves.
He will determine when she
sees Barnabas. We hear shuffling. Or a dog barking? Or water draining? WTF?
Nicholas will control when
she sees Barnabas and she will see him only occasionally and must resist the
temptation to call him until she tells her to summon him. “I know what goes on in
that crafty little mind of yours. You want to make Barnabas what you are.”
When he talks a bit, we hear
a bang.
Angelique has to obey him and
tells him she knows that she has to do what he says. He plays with his ring
again.
It seems a bit after 2:15 am:
Barnabas returns to Stokes and Julia, telling them the house was empty.
“Barnabas, this …this doesn’t
make any sense,” Julia says.
They ask where are Adam and
Eve. Barnabas answers, “I don’t know.”
Neither of them notices
Barnabas is odd, pale, wounded, hurt? Barnabas also flubs and says, “and do…don…I
don’t know what to do next.” Stokes
takes Julia to Collinwood.
Outside, Julia worries.
Stokes thinks she’s worried enough for one night. The dogs howl. Barnabas voice
over.
Wind blows in the Old House
drawing room but I think the windows are closed. The candles go out.
Angelique appears or rather ghost
like half appears in the Old House. She tells him Nicholas does not know she is
here and Barnabas is not going to tell him. Then she fully appears, “I’ll never
leave you alone. Until you’re mine, completely mind.”
She bites Barnabas again and
again on the right side of his neck. The credits are green in a spot. Stokes is
credited as Timothy Stokes.
During the credits, early on,
a figure, possibly male, appears behind the window of Eve’s SECOND STORY floor
window in her bedroom!!!
Just a few comments:
Angelique professes to hate Barnabas now and even wants to cause him suffering.
Is that true? Does she no longer love him? She definitely seems over him and
less of a passionate woman that she used to be and more of a straight villainess.
Still? He also seems to have nothing for her but hatred.
Angelique’s never been
scarier.

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:
Barnabas says, “Julia, I’m surprised at you. I’m hardly a psychologist, but obviously, the — your dream was — well, it was perfectly obvious.”
When Stokes and Nicholas come downstairs at the start of act 2, the bannister wobbles alarmingly.
Julia has a terrible cough in this episode. In act 2, she coughs as Barnabas crosses the Old House drawing room to answer the door. In act 3, she coughs while Barnabas explains Liz’s condition to Nicholas, and again as Barnabas is leaving the house.
As Barnabas folds up the map of Nicholas’ house, he says, “I’ll take this with me, and I’ll review it earlier — later this evening.”
John: Barnabas says he is hardly a psychologist. Um, or not a psychologist at all, Barnabas?
Christine: How often will Barnabas get fooled by the pillows made to look like a sleeping body in the bed? Julia pulled that trick on him back in Episode 290.
John: I have a question for Professor Stokes. Why exactly would Eve be wearing cologne? It's not like someone took her shopping in Collinsport. And where would it otherwise come from? It's not like she's holed up in Josette's fully stocked bedroom at the old house.
Christine: I'm hardly Professor Stokes, but I think Eve is wearing cologne because Adam never bathes and the cologne helps cover up his stench. I'm sure Nicholas would have no problem securing it for her. More importantly, when did Barnabas learn to drive? Did Julia teach him? I would have liked to have seen those scenes! Also, why didn't Barnabas use the poison filled hypodermic on Angelique?
John: So we finally get the long awaited reveal to Barnabas that Angelique is back! It seems like things are about to change in Collinwood as there's now no doubt about Blair's supernatural leanings...
Christine: I look forward to seeing how their reunion goes on Monday! I was hoping Stokes would notice the Mustache Man portrait at Blair's and remark on how he had the exact same portrait at his domicile. I love how the view from the front door of the House by the Sea is always changing. I also love how Barnabas keeps calling it "Blair House."

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:
In the teaser, when Barnabas pulls back the blankets and sees that Eve’s bed is empty, there’s suddenly a burst of activity in the studio — people shuffling around, whispering, rustling paper, and the squeak of a chair being pushed back. It doesn’t really help to sell the “I’m unexpectedly alone in this room” vibe that they’re trying to accomplish.
In act 1, as Angelique stands up and tells Barnabas, “You’re mine,” she trips on her own gown and stumbles for a second.
Angelique smiles and stares at her reflection in the mirror. Julia established a while ago that vampires can’t be seen in mirrors, but this isn’t the first time Angelique has openly disregarded that rule.
The armchairs have moved position in the Old House drawing room since we saw them at the end of yesterday’s episode. Apparently, the late-night festivities included dragging the chairs around the room.
Professor Stokes says, “You found no sign of Adam,” and just as Barnabas begins to answer, Stokes continues, “– or Eve, none at all.”
John: If Angelique hates Barnabas so much, why would she go to such trouble to get him to love her? If she hates him more than he hates her, wouldn't she just vamp him and chain him in a coffin for all eternity?
Christine: It's a love/hate relationship. She only hates him because he won't love her. Chaining him in a coffin would not be as fun for her as having the pleasure of tormenting him endlessly and forcing him to submit to her. Did you see how pleased she was?
John: Isn't Barnabas a vampire, suppressed only by Adam's existence? I'm not quite sure about the physiology of Angelique double-dipping on him.
Christine: It is complicated. I think that she may be unable to turn him to a vampire because of Adam's protection, but since he is human, she can bring him under her control with her vampowers. I was half expecting Julia to tear down his collar the way he ripped off her scarf in Episode 566. You'd think she'd recognize the signs, being vampire food herself in the past.
John: Speaking of double-dipping, shouldn't there be a longer gap between blood drinking of a single victim? One would think two drinks in such close succession might result in death of the subject...
Christine: She may be taking small sips, though ultimately she could decide to kill him. I suspect that she won't since she's having so much fun with her new boy toy. I like how Angelique has three vampire grooms just as Dracula had three brides.
