DARK SHADOWS 604

DARK SHADOWS 604

“Because…he’s Nicholas Blair…and he isn’t human.”

“Nothing would surprise me at this point.”

“Elizabeth Stoddard is tortured by the presence of death. She can see it.”

Grayson. The still of the house crosses into Vicki on the landing and it looks good and interesting. Different dialog and reprise …slightly. Jeff says IDK again. Jeff says he found her in the cemetery. In last ep he said graveyard. He also says, here, “I think she’s fainted.” Last episode, he said, “She fainted.”

Vicki says, “She’s dead! She’s dead!” With less inflection than last ep in the cliffhanger AND she does not say, “She’s dead! JEFF, she’s dead,” as in last episode.

Jeff finds she is breathing. Liz that is. We hear a bang and shuffling.

Jeff says, “I couldn’t understand anything she was saying,” when he first found Liz in the cemetery.

Vicki tells him, “I’ll explain later.”

She calls Liz’s doctor. Julia is showing Barnabas the hypo he will use to kill Eve. They are in a huge room that looks vaguely like Julia’s room but to me the only thing that looks the same is the bed.

It’s odd them talking about killing someone with a hypo as that is the way they killed Dr. Woodard, long forgotten by the show.

A HUGE CAMERA moves into view from the right side. Julia tells him she is afraid of Nicholas Blair, thinks he could be walking into a trap, and that Nicholas probably already knows their every move and plan. Barnabas, the dope, asks how. Julia says, “Because he’s Nicholas Blair and he isn’t human.”

Julia also flubs, “tecond…ten seconds…”   Eve will collapse ten seconds after she is stuck with the poison and then two minutes later the poison will be gone, and Eve will have appeared to die by heart attack.

Julia will go to the Old House at 3pm. Stokes will get plans to Blair’s house. Then Stokes will bring Nicholas to the Old House. Julia and Barnabas go downstairs and find the Liz plotline. Julia asks what’s happened to Mrs. Stoddard and Vicki’s answer is IDK.

Julia finds no pulse, no heartbeat and pronounces Liz dead. Liz gets up. Liz flubs, “If I hadn’t out…come to…”

Julia explains there are records of people being in catatonic states that made them seem as if they were dead.

She wants to give Liz a sedative but Liz will not take it. Vicki tells Jeff, “I don’t know how to thank you.”  Jeff apologizes to her. There seems to be a cut. A jump or a retake. Jeff is not sure why he acted the way he did, “I don’t know what it was.”  The doctor of Liz’s knocks at the door and is unseen but is let in.

Julia and Barnabas talk in her room. When Julia feels it seems more than just a fear of death, Barnabas says, “I don’t understand.”

“Elizabeth Stoddard is tortured by the presence of death. She can see it.”  Barnabas thinks this started the day Cassandra disappeared. “Would Nicholas really want to bring Cassandra back?”  Julia: “I don’t know.”

Jeff and Vicki kiss. Barnabas, leaving, sees them kiss and leaves. As he leaves, the door next to the door he leaves through, opens, then closes by a bounce again as he slammed the door he left by.

Vicki comes to Julia’s room just as Julia took off her robe! Vicki asks if Liz was dead or not. And if it happens again, how long will they have to wait before they know if she will come out of it or not.

Julia says, “I don’t know.”

Julia is happy for Vicki now that she and Jeff made up. Vicki leaves. Is that the box that later holds the hand of Petofi on Julia’s shelf? We suddenly as Julia goes to bed, hear the ticking of her old fashioned clock. It is 12:30 am. At 3am, Julia has a nightmare.

We hear Dr. Smith from LOST IN SPACE scream/screech. Not really but it sounds equally funny. Barnabas is calling her through a Vaseline camera lens. Her bedroom door opens by itself and we see through the fogged out lens of the camera the dark upper landing from the staircase and the stained glass windows.

Collinwood’s doors open by themselves. Outside Collinwood doors from Julia’s POV are a row of neatly trimmed bushes and many trees past the cement half/wall.

Barnabas is leaning against a tree near a red and/or purple tree (this IS LOST IN SPACE!). Julia later says he was covered in blood but it didn’t seem to be. His eyes are open and he seemed to have lines of blood. He seems dead with his eyes open.

Waking up while yelling, Julia yells, “Barnabas!” She wakes up and says, “Barnabas.”

Review: Strange that Barnabas, always fatalistic, seems to think he can kill someone in Blair’s protection but it’s nice to think he might try. Julia is center stage again and she wears some stylish clothes. Not bad.

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:

When Vicki is examining Liz on the couch, Jeff says “I think she fainted” at the same time that Vicki says “There’s no pulse.”

Near the beginning of Barnabas and Julia’s scene in the first act, a camera butts into the frame on the right.

When Jeff is pleading with Vicki in the drawing room in act 2, there’s a tape edit — apparently Jeff did something so terrible that it had to be expunged from the record.
