DARK SHADOWS 592

DARK SHADOWS  592

“If she dies, then there will be no stopping Adam. He will turn Collinwood into a blood bath.”

“Big cracks, all around.”

Nancy B. October 1, 1968. The narration says time passes and we get THE SAME still of the house from THE SAME angle. The sound effects are different in the reprise. The shots are different slightly. Barnabas licks his lips here. Julia gets an IDK. Barnabas says to Adam, “You may really may have something to worry about.” What?

One piece of equipment says Palm Springs, California.

The waves on the screen are different.

The opening is 3:43 seconds.

Barnabas says, “IDU.”

Julia prepares a shot and gives it to Carolyn and when she does not react, Julia says, “I don’t understand it.”  Barnabas flubs. Adam takes Carolyn upstairs.

NOTE: Adam is really annoying me here. This is all his fault and he keeps blaming Barnabas and Julia. I wish they’d kill him.

Barnabas asks Julia if Carolyn will be all right; Julia’s answer, “I don’t know. I don’t know any way of finding out all the effects of  the experiment.”

Barnabas tells her that if Carolyn dies, Adam will turn Collinwood into a blood bath. Adam gets a blanket for Carolyn that we’ve seen in Vicki’s room. The Afghan. Adam teleprompter. Seems to forget his lines. He also says, “I should never have let you go with it.”  Huh?

Carolyn moves and wakes up and is in some pain. He asks what’s wrong and she says IDK. She tells him she is alone somewhere in a cold room, the walls crack and fell down (what is this the awful season five of NEW DOCTOR WHO?). “Big cracks, all around,” she says, among other things.

Adam gets an IDU.

She sees fog and a clay face,  a hand, a foot, forms in the air: a collection of dead things. Not sure what they were going for here but I thought at first it was supposed to be her seeing through the mate’s eyes or feeling what the body parts felt.

In any event, it’s one of those very surreal DS moments. Were they trying to depict an afterlife? Hell? Purgatory? She sees a skull with eyes left over from the dream curse perhaps?

More likely Carolyn detected the mate’s separate body parts coming for her to take her life from her. Adam yells he won’t let them do it but he’s responsible for all of this. He’s a total moron. We see an eye, a face, a foot (!), a hand and a skull.

These things were all waiting for life or coming to take her’s. Carolyn wants to go to Collinwood and wants to tell the others (or “them”) to take care of Adam. She gets cold. The pain returns worse and she dies.

Julia comes in, sniffs, and says, “She’s dead.”  What is that shadow on the window? A bike image? A clasp for the curtains shadow?

Adam leaves and tells Barnabas. Barnabas says, “Oh my God!”  He yells at Adam that it is not just his loss, she was part of him, one of his family.  “I feel for her as you think you do!”

He tells him it is his fault. Finally someone has told the big idiot the truth: Adam is the one that Carolyn into this mess! Jerk.

Adam says first he will kill Vicki and then everyone in his family. Hey doesn’t that include Carolyn? They fight in a fight that is not too badly staged, actually.

Barnabas is hit down and Adam goes out, past Julia who is inside but at the front door. Barnabas comes up and tries to pursue but cannot. He also feels he cannot just sit there and do nothing but he’s hurt. Julia offers to go but he tells her she was stopped once before. Julia goes up for her bag and finds…that Carolyn’s body is gone. She puts her hand to her mouth. Someone also seems to have made the bed.

Pretty shocking, creepy, and surreal, also engaging in a way. Adam is VERY annoying now and it’s hard to forgive him for this and for his lack of vision to see that he’s the one responsible. He’s a jerk.

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:

In the reprise of yesterday’s experiment sequence, the camera pointing at the oscilloscope is out of focus. Julia asks Barnabas to keep an eye on the “sine waves” to make sure they don’t collapse. This only barely made sense yesterday, when you could actually make out the wavy lines on the readout. Today, it’s positively baffling.

Julia checks on Carolyn, and says, “Her pulse beat is decreasing.” She’s said this before; I think she’s trying to make “pulse beat” a thing.

When Carolyn is lying in bed, Adam says, “Carolyn — I should never have let you go with… it.”

In the bedroom sequence, when Carolyn says, “Then it didn’t work, and you don’t have your mate,” there’s a lot of studio noise, with people shuffling around.

Behind the Scenes:

There’s an extra treat for the prop-spotters today: When they’re upstairs in Josette’s room, Adam drapes the Collinsport Afghan over Carolyn. This brightly-colored knitted shawl is usually seen at Maggie’s house, but it’s also turned up recently in Liz’s bedroom, and on Joe’s bed.
