DARK SHADOWS 579

    DARK SHADOWS  579

“Adam has disappeared.”

“And his disappearance places Miss Winters in great danger. Greater than ever before.”

“He threatened to kill Victoria Winters.”

“Yes, if we’re successful, this creature will be a living human being.”

Vicki. No reprise. Jeff Clark. Voice over.

NOTE: or rather QUESTION: is this the first time we HEAR the sound effect of the waves hitting the rocks? I’d have  sworn it is.

Julia finds Jeff in the lab and with her/Lang notebook. She locks it away in a glass case.

Flub from Jeff: bring Art…bring Adam.

Jeff questions Julia about the girl they will use. Julia gives him a IDK that yet. Jeff gets a rare, “Well, I understand that.”

Jeff Voice over.

Close up on Barnabas’ cane, the wolfs head cane.  “Nothing has happened, that’s what’s wrong.”

Julia: “I don’t understand.”

Barnabas is puzzled as to why he’s not heard of any attacks in Collinsport as he knows there is a vampire on the loose. He was in Collinsport and heard nothing. He’s glad. So is she. However, someone made Tom Jennings a vampire and Barnabas asks why he hasn’t attacked anyone else. Julia: IDK.

Julia and he discuss Blair. Willie has been watching Blair’s house. Where is the vampire?  Julia tells him about Jeff. Barnabas is not fond of him. Julia tells him that she doesn’t trust him as much as she used to and doesn’t know why. Julia: IDK again.

Vicki comes to the Old House. She tells them Stokes is on his way up. Vicki asks Barnabas if she can talk to Julia alone. She asks if Jeff is healthy. He is. Barnabas encounters Jeff in the basement. Squeaking.

He tells Jeff that Vicki wanted to talk to Julia alone. Jeff asks about what. Barnabas says, “I don’t know.”

Jeff’s been busy and when Vicki asks doing what, Julia says, “I don’t know.”  He has no steady job. He hasn’t had a job since he worked for Dr. Lang and that was “months ago.”

Jeff listens to the two women talking. Vicki tells Julia she is very unhappy. Jeff has cancelled dates and not really spoken to Vicki. Julia takes Vicki back to Collinwood. Jeff voice over.

Stokes comes and tells Barnabas that Adam has disappeared. Mike Shadow. Jeff comes to the two men. As the three men talk, we see the shadow of the mic rigging. Stokes and Barnabas tell Jeff that Adam has disappeared and this puts Vicki in greater danger. Jeff gets an IDU.

Stokes explains that Adam fell in love with Carolyn and now that he’s been rejected, he might be violent.

Jeff has not had a job in a month. Mic shadow over Vicki and Jeff. Vicki breaks up with Jeff and runs upstairs. Jeff Voice over. This includes, “…and you can’t understand. Maybe you’ll never understand.”

Julia in the lab, tells Barnabas that the body is almost complete. Soon, they will bring to life a living human being.

Review FROM THE PAST: Not sure. It seems…sort of boring and bidding time. The constant voice overs seem unnecessary.

They should only be used when a point has to be made that can’t be made by someone just watching.

Soon voice overs are all over the place. It’s sort of distracting and gives us reason to hate the voice overs. They should be used for major things and not as filler. Still, they fill time…but is that a good thing?

The next two episodes give us more biting, more Adam threats…thank goodness the ones after those two are much, much better with a GREAT storyline starting with Maggie and Willie and the past events of the show…

NOW: Not sure again but I sort of liked this. Yes, it is dragged out but not as most soaps drag things out and I cannot fault them for milking this storyline. Jeff and Vicki never felt right, nor did Burke and Vicki. Frank is the one for her!

Dark Shadows bloopers to watch out for:

As Jeff starts to read Julia’s notebook, someone in the studio coughs.

Jeff tells Julia, “I know that, uh, you found the life force to bring Art — uh, Adam — to life.”

When Barnabas blocks Jeff from going upstairs, there’s a loud squeak from the studio.

Behind the Scenes:

In the credits, Ramse Mostoller is now credited as “costume design: Mostoller”. I don’t really understand the significance of this, but there you are.
