DOCTOR WHO-the update on the non news news ...or something. WGAF?
Russell T Davies is a bitter, sad man. Sure, his series, CUCUMBER, QUEER AS FOLK, IT'S A SIN, BANANA and others define what TV thinks gay life and the gay community is ALL and ONLY about: nasty men doing nasty things to each other and thinking nasty things about each other and themselves, while being "cool" and being sexual no matter who they hurt and step on. QUEER's first episode? Well, watch it and tell me that RTD has anything to say against anyone without being a hypocrite? Loved his DW seasons one to four but reading his book, one can tell he ran out of steam and had burn out and writer block. It's sad that a man that once told us DW was terrific and the best TV show in the world, has not only FAILED totally at it in 2023 to 2025---but that he now seems to dismiss it mostly due to his own failing and trust me, in twenty years time, most people will have forgotten his other very dark and depressing shows (not me because they do have some merit, despite being terribly one sided in each episode about gays being promiscuous, liars, deceitful to themselves and each other and their loving families, and irresponsible for their own behaviors), most will remember his first contributions to DW in 2005 to 2008 (I'm not counting the year he lost his magic, 2009, which mostly sucked) and many will also remember the years he destroyed DW utterly (with a big assist from Moffat and Chibs), 2023 to 2025. Here is what he said, among other things:
I have this weird feeling they are retooling it to make Tovey BE the Doctor somehow. I think this sucks and will suck so I don't care if they push it back or forward or sideways. The plot looks old hat, boring, and cheap using stuff they already had (costumes, UNIT...UNIT needs to be destroyed forever and never used again, it was made as a money making move and it's served it's purpose and needs to DIE now, maybe this mini boredom will kill UNIT off once and for all and this time they will stay dead). I am NOT excited especially as RTD2, the man who killed DW once and for all, accomplishing what Moffat started---to utterly destroy whatever merit DW had in the classic series and in RTD's first GREAT round of 2005 to 2008 (2009 sucked). I also can't get excited for a spinoff that's about UNIT and boring characters and does not have the Doctor in it! I'm not trying to get through this spin off. I find I really DO NOT care at all any longer and it turns out RTD has destroyed whatever love I had for ALL DW. My writing fan fic has suffered. My joy for sci fi has suffered (even though under Moffat and RTD, both being POOR at sci fi, DW was barely sci fi but more airy fairy tale magic shit). My care about the character has suffered (Gatwa and going back to Matt, the worst Doctor being Matt, the Doctors were unlikable, though I have to admit Gatwa was initially very likable and light and fun) and written as unlikable sociopaths and cranky hypocrites (Capaldi's last speech was especially hypocritical but so was Matt's Doctor telling a woman who killed a Silurian to protect her son and father and husband that she was nasty when he kills all the time). You can have a well shot show, a show with great effects and music and DW had all of those (though Murray Gold has worn out his welcome way back in 2017 I'd say) but if the story, the logic, the sci in the sci fi, the character beats (Moffat was great as sacrificing character development for a cheap laugh, though most of his jokes were unfunny), the meaning, the wokeness (and yes, some woke is needed but it needs to be written into the script in a great way, not the shit we got), the plot, the alien creation, the world building, the historical background (Nigeria is the most homophobic place on Earth and the Doc is accepted there? And feels accepted there?), and more are all wrong, NONE of the effects, the vivid color, the look, the music and great shots MEAN SHIT.
it's so true. On one hand you have the anti woke crowd who hate DW because of the woke and who want it gone and say the BBC are lying and giving us word games and no real news other than DW is going nowhere (which it is going nowhere in plot---seasons and stories have to go somewhere) and news of a pre school cartoon of many eps of 11 minutes each (?). And then you have the "up" crowd who love shit like River Song and Matt Smith and Moffat and now even love Capaldi (the worst seasons are season 8 and 9, which I thought couldn't have been worse than 6, 7, and 7 but they were) who say this is all good news and they want RTD2 in charge to explain why the Doc regenerated into Billie Piper (and some hope it's a memory of Rose from the REAL Doctor---they all seem to be deluded and in some kind of DW shock, stunned that their wonderful show which they feel every ep is great, has been cancelled). They even meet RTD and hang on the fat man's every word. And RTD who seems to be out of DW and yet not (he's not in every meeting, he puts out a release saying his legacy will NOT be DW but his gay depressing dramas of evil men doing evil things to their friends---watch CUCUMBER and BANANA and you will see what I mean)---he is fooling himself---his legacy will be that he brought DW back and made it better than ever and then brought it from the brink of mediocrity (Chibs' fcked FUX season of total shit and only six eps) to even lower with the shit he put on Disney. BBC, RTD, Gatwa saying he was too old to continue DW (while leaving because and rightly so...he was losing money waiting on Disney's decision), Disney itself who should just come out and say they HATE what RTD2 did to DW and hate DW, the spinoff merchandise which is mostly good saying nothing, and fans who hate and love at the same time. It's a total fucking mess worse than the desert of 1989 to 1994 and then onto 1996 to 2004/5. At least there, after a time we knew that all the rumors of a movie in the theaters were bullshit when they announce that David Hasselhoff will be the Doctor. Some think the Hiatus will mean two years but I'm thinking more like 20 to 30. I'm hoping it's cancelled forever because I'd hate to see it come back and give us more shit like SPACE BABIES, STAR BEAST, bi generation, Rose as the Doctor, FUG Doctor, Timeless Shit, EMPIRE OF DEATH, REALITY WAR, the incomprehensible SUCKY DAY, and more shit than the shit RTD2 just foised on us as the best stuff he could do. F him. And F any more DW going forward. Let it die with dignity instead of shit monster and gas driven spaceships and a villain simulating a blow job on our screens.
Torchtorewood is awful. It's like looking into a gutter after a homeless person just shit near it. ALL four seasons. It's the worst show ever and beyond that, it's cliche, stolen storylines (and yes, even CHILDREN OF EARTH, which is the worst, though MIRACLE DAY is beyond awful) from the first story to the last, and with "adults" acting like uncontrolled teens hopping into the sack with everyone to satisfy their sexual urges, no real depth, no real premises there and a faithless sack of shit that barely resembled the DW universe, both classic and modern. A total POS.
someone thinks they will keep making DW because it makes them money: my answer in the guide of a question: wouldn't it be cheaper for them to NOT produce a show and continue to get money from books, audios, comics, and blu rays? That's what they did in the 1990s and took money made from DW merchandise and put it into soaps like Eastenders!
BRITS ruined DW, so maybe it's time to let others have a go at it, maybe Swedes. They seem to have some great shows. Germans, too, Japanese, the Chinese, Singapore, they all have some great shows. The Brits don't know how to make good DW.
No other way to say it. The Brits have fucked up DW from 2009 on and you think this? Americans or Australians or even the French and Japanese should take it over and do their thing with it: it can't be any worse than the shit like A GOOD MAN, DAY OF THE DOCTOR, CRIMSON HORROR, SPACE BABIES, KILL THE MOON, HEAVEN SENT, ROBOT OF SHERWOOD, almost all season 8 and 9, FOREST OF THE NIGHT, IMPOSSIBLE ASTRONAUT, DAY OF THE MOON, Kate's UNIT, DEVIL'S CHORD, EMPIRE OF DEATH, REALITY WAR, SPYFALL, Timeless Children, Fugly Doctor, FUX season. etc.
CHILD'S PLAY has Chucky, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET has Freddie, FRIDAY THE 13TH has Jason, HALLOWEEN has Micheal, SLEEPAWAY CAMP has Angela, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE has Leatherface, and THE BLOB has the blob but THE SUMMER I TURNED SHITTY has Conrad, the worst monster of all of them, hiding in plain sight in a pretty exterior and an emotion destroyer lurking underneath wrapped in selfishness and "love." Scariest tv show ever.
