 DARK SHADOWS  568

“You don’t understand why we’re doing this.”

“I don’t want to understand!”

DARK SHADOWS  568

Grayson. New reprise. Zoom in on Barnabas’s face and no new material before theme. Jeff vs Barnabas. He didn’t think Barnabas was capable of this but Barnabas tells Jeff almost everything but can’t tell him why they needed Adam in the first place.

Barnabas says, “You don’t understand why we’re doing this.” “I don’t want to understand!”

He does tell Jeff that he needs his help. Jeff gets an IDK. Jeff’s first inclination is to get Vicki, tell her to pack her things and leave for good.

Barnabas asks him if he wants to see Carolyn, Elizabeth and David die. Jeff does not. He cannot explain why he created Adam in the first place. He wishes he had never started it.

Morning: Roger comes to the Old House. Barnabas comes down in a night robe. Roger is looking for Julia: Elizabeth has escaped Windcliff. It sounds like Roger says, “…sometimes last night” instead of “sometime last night.”

Julia is in the Old House Barnabas says to do research in his library. Julia is the head of Windcliff.

Roger wants Barnabas to wake Julia up to help. Barnabas finds her already up, she cannot sleep. He does a flub.

Julia voice over. She gets two IDKS.

Barnabas will stay with Julia in Josette’s room. Jeff will help them. He is told to put together a scope Julia needs. He knows how to do it. Jeff voice over.

We do not see Barnabas rebuff Roger with lies. Next return from the commercial break, we see her in lab coat and in the cellar at the lab. She gets an out loud IDK.

Jeff arrives and will help. He will start by putting a scope together like he did for Lang. They go upstairs. He gets a voice over.

Barnabas tells Julia later that he is not going to leave her. He can prevent Julia from going to Tom but can’t prevent Tom from coming to Julia. Barnabas wants him to come: he’s set up a trap. He has a gun with five silver bullets. He used a candlestick to have five silver bullets forged in town. Didn’t anyone ask any questions? AND why tell her that? When he explains this to her, we hear a loud bang or sliding sound.

NOTE: as in LOST IN SPACE, instead of saying, “KILL” the word DESTROYED is used.

In DS I guess silver can stop a vampire. “He must be destroyed.”   Julia flubs. She says “rithing” in stead of “rising from his grave.”

Tom’s coffin lid opens from the top. HUH? He calls her and calls her and calls her. It goes on forever. When she tries to run out, a long vertical green bar from top to bottom of the screen appears on the left side of the screen. She plays with her ring nervously.

Josette’s room: a mike. Barnabas hides inside some slatted doors: a closet? The bathroom?

When Tom does appear, Julia blocks Tom from Barnabas’s shot and Tom leaves. Julia says, “I don’t know what came over me.”  What? He’s controlling you. Dogs. Barnabas goes to look out the window and faster than THE BIONIC WOMAN, Julia is out the door, down the steps, and out the front door. Barnabas realizes this and calls for her. He runs toward the doors and out but holds onto the side of the door and before the cameras change to downstairs, he returns to being inside the room! WT?

Credits have a sudden zoom in.

from "DS before..." blog...

John: So Roger shows up for a brief cameo, fills us in on Liz, and then somehow Barnabas manages to get rid of him offscreen. Quite an awkward way to introduce a new story thread, but an easy paycheck for Louis Edmonds.

Christine: Well, at least we have a heads up that Elizabeth's annual contractual vacation will soon be coming to an end, and hopefully it also means that we'll be seeing a lot more of Roger as well very soon.

John: So where exactly did Barnabas learn the silver bullet theory for killing vampires? And what's with Tom magically appearing and disappearing, with nary a squeaky bat in sight?

Christine: Barnabas learned the silver bullet theory from his dad back in Episode 459, who discovered from his research in Boston that you can kill a vampire by shooting a silver bullet into its heart. He had planned to destroy his vampire son that way until he realized it was easier for him to chain him in a coffin rather than do the dirty deed. Vampire Tom is the next generation vampire, who's evolved to be a little more stealthy and a little less squeaky. I'm wondering whose mausoleum he appropriated the coffin from that he's currently using.

There’s a weird quality to Jeff’s thinks monologue in the teaser — it sounds like we’re hearing the pre-recorded lines as they’re played in the studio, rather than as part of the soundtrack. It’s back to normal for Jeff’s thinks in act 3.

During their argument, Barnabas steps on one of Jeff’s lines:

Jeff:  I love her, and I’m going to do the sensible thing. I’m going to go to Collinwood tonight —

Barnabas:  Do you think —

Jeff:  — and I’m gonna tell her to pack her things, and we’re going to get out of here!

Barnabas:  You think that she will leave without an explanation?

Julia paces around in Josette’s room, distracted and nervous. She picks up one of Lang’s journals and leafs through it for a second, apparently unbothered by the fact that she has it upside down.

In Josette’s room, Barnabas tells Julia, “It’s all right, don’t lose your control. I think I have control of the situation.”
