DARK SHADOWS 562
DARK SHADOWS 562
“Your eyes. I can’t look away
from them.”
“Don’t try to look away.”
Humbert. Long different
reprise with different dialog. Joe wants to take Willie to the sheriff (using
that word instead of police). Joe vs Willie. Karlen forgets his lines and looks
to the left, probably at the teleprompter and starts to say his lines but the
loud music cues in and interrupts him. The former close up on Joe happens later
here, too, mostly because Karlen forgot his lines in the different reprise.
Blair vs Angelique. Joe SEEMS
TO KNOW what Angelique is: how? Did he remember what Maggie went through? She
summons him again. Willie flubs at the words “trying to think…trying to decide”
to Joe.
As he leaves, Joe trips. Joe
gets at least one, “I know” and an “I know what I have to do.”
Willie seems to want to call
him back to take him to the police now, “Hey please!”
He goes to Barnabas at the
Old House and tells Barnabas he offered no explanation to Joe. Barnabas calls
him a fool. Barnabas wants to say that Willie didn’t know what he was doing. He
will, in fact, put the blame on Willie. We see the studio ceiling, the end of
the set wall at the top and the studio lights! Barnabas in his plotting gets
in, “You didn’t know what you were doing.”
Joe goes to the House by the
Sea and gets two IDUs. Joe tells Angelique, “I love Maggie Evans.” “My name is Angelique,” she tells Joe again. They hug and she bites
him again. Sigh. Angelique has fillings.
Later, as he recovers, she
seems genuinely concerned for him as she asks, “How do you feel?” and “Are you all right?” She also asks “Are you happy?” HUH? On her
first question, he answers, “IDK.”
He can’t look away from her
eyes. We hear a loud clang. We find out that Tom Jennings is Joe’s cousin. She
tells him that Tom will die, “That’s the way life is.”
His need for Angelique will
soon replace his love for Maggie, she tells Joe. Blair is suddenly in the room.
He kicks her out. Joe asks what the power of this house is. Blair will allow
him to see Angelique if he obeys him. He plays with his ring again. He gives
Joe some kind of instruction.
Willie has packed and is
leaving, coming down the Old House steps. Joe comes to the Old House and
Barnabas, thinking at first it was the police, ordered him to go upstairs.
It is night. They talk about
Willie. Barnabas tells Joe that Willie is basically harmless. Joe tells him
that he owes Willie since Willie saved his life.
Joe also doesn’t want Willie
to have a police record (HUH? Doesn’t Willie already have a police record???).
After Barnabas questions Joe,
Joe leaves. Willie overheard from the steps and is happy. Tom is out of his
coma, Blair tells Angelique. He can expose them both. Is that the cliffhanger?
I HOPE Tom does expose them. While Blair frets, we hear the sound of a door or
something opening and closing.
Review: Odd but it’s both
tedious and intriguing. I don’t know what will come of Joe and Angelique, Tom’s
dilemma and life, Blair’s plan, Willie’s staying, etc. Yet we’ve seen all of
this before really. The outcomes that will happen much later are all that keeps
us watching. Which, I guess, is a good soap opera.
In act 2, when Willie says, “Wait a minute, Barnabas; that’s not fair!”, the camera pulls back too far, and you can see the top of the set, and one of the studio lights.
In act 3, just before Nicholas appears in the drawing room, the camera pulls back from Joe and Angelique to reveal a wire dangling on the left side. After a moment, the camera pans slightly to the right, to get the cable off the screen.
