DARK SHADOWS 311
DARK SHADOWS
311
“She loved
me more than anyone else.”
The reprise
looks exactly the same but who knows? Barnabas calls Willie a coward and he
will always be, he says, cruelly. Willie thinks Barnabas is afraid Sarah will
reveal him but he tells Willie that Sarah never wanted to see harm come to
another living creature. Sarah was inconsolable when they had a pet dog that
had to be put down because he was too old. Willie gets an IDK and Barnabas gets
an IDK, too. Willie hits his head moving out of the room. David gets out of the
coffin but is trapped in the crypt. He calls out for help.
Chimes ring
at the clock (?) at Collinwood. It seems to be 10:45. Joe was in the East Wing
and searched a lot of empty rooms. Joe gets a “We don’t know.” Joe steps on
Carolyn’s line. Vicki put David in Carolyn’s care when she was out with Burke.
Joe and Carolyn discuss Burke and Vicki a bit, Joe asking Carolyn how she feels
about their engagement. Carolyn made a fool of herself over Burke but that is
in the past now and everything she felt for Burke is in the past. “My only worry
now is David.” Carolyn is happy for Vicki.
Vickin a
bright green jacket returns. David’s been missing four or five hours. Joe and
Carolyn leave; Vicki looks out the OPEN window ---ceiling to floor window in
the Drawing Room.
Joe and
Carolyn encounter a white wall in the woods…is it the house? Carolyn gets and IDK. Carolyn tells Joe that
David sometimes plays at a cove under the rocks in the cliffs. Carolyn never
paid attention to David when he talked about Sarah. Carolyn has a feeling
something terrible is happening to David. Carolyn flubs and calls Joe by the
name of David. Carolyn has been having nightmares of something terrible, some
disaster, for weeks now. In them, she senses some disaster about to strike but
she thought it was going to happen to her.
In the crypt
David hears flute music but Sarah doesn’t appear. What IS wrong with her?
Joe and
Carolyn encounter Willie. Joe gets an IDK. Willie says he’s collecting
firewood. Joe believes the Old House is a big house with lots of rooms and
David might be there but Willie yells at them and storms off. Zoom in on Joe as
he states he thinks it’s almost as if Willie is hiding something.
Barnabas is
creeping on Vicki as she’s outside by the fountain in back. He claims he was
taking a walk and just saw her. Liar. Despite this, he seems genuine when he
expresses concern about her care and distress over David’s disappearance. He
almost sounds concerned for David, too. He’s sympathetic to Vicki and sensitive
to her need to cry. He knows David is very important to Vicki. Vicki thinks of
him as a little brother. WHAT?
He claims he
knows how easy it is to become attached to children. “A child can represent
everything that is pure and innocent.” In light of how he will plot to kill
David in future and terrorize him (which is ALL forgotten when Vicki returns
from the past, again giving evidence that she does not return to the same
universe), this is odd or all a lie to just win Vicki over.
“David’s
become very important in my life. If anything’s happened to him, I don’t know
what I’d do.”
“Caring for
someone never requires an apology.”
Barnabas
looks the moon and then at Vicki’s neck and bares his fangs in a totally
unexpected moment!
Why does
Willie have to replace the brick before he closes the door from the outside?
Would it not close if he did not?
In any case
: terrific from start to finish.
OLD REVIEW:
311
Vicki. "OH Sarah," David
whines. A long reprise which may or may not be
exactly the same. The theme and credits
are in full bloom when we have the
audacity to join them late. We also get a
nice POV from above David as he
lies in the coffin listening to Barnabas
and Willie go on and on and on
about Sarah. He doesn't get much info
though. When Sarah was young, they
had a pet dog that got old and had to be
put to sleep. Put down he says.
Barnabas had to comfort her but she was
inconsolable. She didn't like to
see anyone hurt. SO DUMBO, can THAT be
why Sarah is back? She doesn't want
you hurting anyone. Buffoon. David is
once more wearing his wall paper
shirt so popular in the 60s and early
70s. Willie opens the secret room
door again from the inside by moving a
step cement slab..is that a new way
to open it or was it that way earlier?
I’m not sure! There are long, long
pauses between Willie and Barnabas as if
one or the other has forgotten
his cue or his lines or both or maybe
both of them have. Or maybe they are
just trying to pass the time.
Joe tells Carolyn he's searched the East
Wing for David and not found him.
Vicki left David in Carolyn's care to go
out with Burke. Joe accidentally
talks over Carolyn's lines. Joe feels responsible
for David going out to
search for Sarah. He also asks Carolyn or
rather starts to ask her about
her feelings about Burke and Vicki
getting engaged. Carolyn guesses his
question and tells him that she made a
fool of herself over Burke but
she's over it now. Vicki comes in in a
green jacket. Joe seems to flub a
great deal here: he says something like,
"He and Sarah are used to play
around here."
David has a pocket knife and tries to
open the door that way amid faster
paced music of an older incidental theme.
Joe and Carolyn search the woods
and...come just short of a huge, HUGE
WHITE wall! What is that? The camera man,
after giving us a major glimpse
of it, tries to avoid it from here on
out. I thought maybe it was the old
house but no go. Carolyn suggests
searching a cove that is under the rocks
in the cliffs. When she stands up, off
the rock she is sitting on, the
camera does not follow too fast and we
get a good look at her arm and
shoulder but no face. Carolyn does a rare
flub taking to JOE and saying,
"I can't help it, David."
Carolyn tells Joe that for weeks she's had a
nightmare about impending disaster but
thought it was for her.
David hears Sarah playing the flute.
Yeah, kid, she's not going to help
you, she's out of it.
Joe and Carolyn, in the woods, encounter
a nervous Willie who tells them
David is not at the Old House and they
should not search it. He claims to
be out looking for firewood. Carolyn
thinks David is famous for getting
into places that he's not supposed to be.
When Willie leaves, telling them
the Old House has been locked up, we get
an odd zoom in on Joe's face as
he talks.
Fountain terrace, patio, back courtyard
whatever it's called: Vicki
worries. Barnabas join her, he's quite
pleasant and quite helpful in
providing some comfort for her. The
curtains on the inside are, for once,
not blowing. Barnabas mentions how Vicki
is devoted to David. He knows how
easy it is to become attached to
children, they are pure and innocent
(DAVID???!!! did he ever watch the pre
Barnabas eps?). Vicki tells him
David has become important in her life
and almost like a little brother.
She cries and he lets her cry on his
shoulder. He looks up at the moon
(what is he a werewolf?) and gets an
uncontrollable urge and cares his
fangs, scary, and clearly about to bite
her harshly in the neck! A very
shocking and scary scene coming just
after all his niceties to Vicki.
