AMERICAN HORROR STORIES s1 ep 4: THE NAUGHTY LIST

The first half of this, as most American Horror Story stories and somewhat of this show already, is different, reflective, even cautionary in a sort of HORROR PULP COMIC-ey way. Four Bro social media filmers and posters (not very familiar with these but sort of like Jake Paul (?) film a man falling to his death. The social ironic-ness and parody as well as satire goes out the window when these idiots film at a mall to try to regain their subscribers when most abandon them after they air their video of the suicide. Before THAT, they pretended to be straight men being homie o'sexual (they're idiots so....) in the funniest montage. At the mall, however, they revert to form and instead of being fun loving, they reveal there is no Santa and harass mall workers including an elf girl and man but when they take on Santa (the intimidating Danny Trejo, they get more than they bargained for when he turns out to be a sick serial killer. I think I might have preferred it if he suicide man haunted them as once they start getting haunted by Santa, it gets cliche and kind of sad. It's also predicable and in true modern horror fashion, the killer gets away with his murders and targets yet another Santa worker. A VERY FINE cast does what it can and the first half is funny, tense, and interesting, well filmed. The second half is well filmed but for some reason, modern horror has to rely on gory effects and set ups but this isn't even going that far in that direction and it's very slow in the second half and I almost wanted the foursome to survive and live to change their ways instead of getting their comeuppance. The one doing the comeuppance is just as sick as they are so it doesn't really have the impact it might have. I can't say watch it or miss it or whatever but if you like AMERICAN HORROR STORY, you might like this episode. One of the others I sampled was just as sick as most of the parent series, a sort of replay of the first show's first story, only with gay male parents in the same horror house, the MURDER HOUSE and with a rubber suited woman. Not recommended. THIS one might entertain you for the first 15 to 20 minutes. Oh, and this HOUR show is really just 38 minutes so don't watch it on commercial TV. I will say the four guys are in this fourth ep are in TERRIFIC shape, all of them. One of them is from GLEE, one from POWER RANGERS (Nico Greetham), and one from RIVERDALE, Charles Melton was in the 2015 and 16 story of AMERICAN HORROR STORY.
