VIP-87-VAL WHO CRIED WOLF
VIP 87-VAL
WHO CRIED WOLF
Jeffery Dean
Morgan, pre-Supernatural, pre-The Walking Dead Neegan plays the dumbo former
friend of a Jim Carey clone who he believes stole his material for his comedian
career which took off and is in movies now. Scott is the name of the movie
comedian and he is totally obnoxious and despite Quick and Natalie intitially
laughing at him, he’s not funny (a lot like Jim Carey then).
There is a
chase after the real threat maker (Jeffery’s Randall and his nasty girlfriend)
that Val stops cold by believing it is a joke. Val’s girlfriend Maxine also
appears and she and Val’s outfits and hair are outrageous.
Speaking of
outrageous, Johnny’s outfit in two scenes is a see through shirt which is…well,
no other way to say it, HOT. Quick and Johnny also appear shirtless in the last
scene where Tasha is playing volleyball against Natalie and Kay. Kay turns out
to be or act like a movie memorabilia addict.
ALL of Val’s
scenes here are funny, especially as she seems to be good at volleyball. The
end chase is interesting in that the girl villain dies as her truck loses its
breaks, Scott jumps out while advising
her to do the same (after she shockingly shoots and only wounds Randall), but
she is stuck in the truck as it goes off a cliff and burns up upon hitting the
bottom of a rocky area.
The Beverly
Hills setting is used to great effect. There’s also a tag scene that has
Natalie and Kay talking about their lab at VIP, which they compare to
Frankenstein’s lab AND where Natalie may or may not have had a man’s spleen in
a test tube jar that Kay and Val used to make an ice cream drink or something.
Natalie may or may not have been joking.
A good
episode, far better than number 88 (which was written by Mark Hamill). This
episode is directed by Michael Dorn.
BTW there’s
also an expert that Quick uses to figure out something about an old tape that
showed Randall’s act was stolen by Scott but it wasn’t because Val retrieves a
script that shows the opposite.
The title doesn't make any sense unless you consider Val's prank when Quick and Tasha are chasing the two baddies.
Synop:
Val's
Hollywood idol, stand-up comedian Scott Thayler, famous for the Jimbo character
movies, hires VIP after receiving death threats. Randall Waring is indeed
hell-bent on extorting him, but Scott, who constantly jokes and lies about
everything, keeps their common past hidden even from VIP. Kay meanwhile has
various dealings with a fellow Jimbo super-fan.
