DARK SHADOWS 143

DARK SHADOWS 143

David Ford plays a great haunted man. Sam Evans. Usually when we see the cottage from the outside, we don’t see the busy street in Collinsport. Here, we do.

David Hensey flubs when he is talking about the dream and the painting but recovers nicely and laughs at himself. Love him.

Sam gets a whooping SEVEN I DON’T KNOWS. Vicki (maybe two?) and David both get one and Vicki also gets an I KNOW as does Sam. Lt Dan Riley of the State Police shows up at Collinwood and shows them the effects that were salvaged from the fire and one is locket with a lock of hair Laura took from David when he was a baby. The picture inside looks nothing like David but a blond boy. Vicki remembers seeing Laura wearing the locket! Are there two? Liz distinctly says that is impossible. So…?

What I don’t get is why Sam gives Vicki the advice to forget the compelling state that made her want to take the painting and then later, the same state that made her give it to David. It is the same one that made him paint it and made him paint a second picture and he starts again when she leaves, under some force.

As is the norm, just like last episode, we see mike shadows again.

A good, haunting episode with another weird aspect to the mystery that is Laura Collins.

David and Vicki discuss the painting. Liz and Vicki talk. David has his

crystal ball again. We see the outdoor location shot of main street and I

wonder why since it switches to the Evan's Cottage. David and Vicki visit

Sam, David for the first time is in the Cottage, possibly the last time

too? During their intro, Vicki interrupts Sam or he does her. David tells

Sam he loves scary things. Sam thinks he and David travel on the same

psychic wavelength and that could explain how Sam painted David's dream.

The thoughts transfer. Sam offers David cider and cookies (CIDER?!). Sam

worries to Vicki after David leaves. David returns and says something like

a flub, "You haven't answered my dream," corrects himself and smiles.

David H might be of good humor since he never seems to get angry with

himself when he does this. All three agree the painting is creepy. Sam

thinks the painting would be best forgotten.

Lt. Dan Riley, a detective of the state police, comes to Collinwood to

question Laura. Liz and Vicki take him to Laura's Cottage. One of the

effects found in Laura's burned up apartment room was the locket...the one

Vicki found her wearing a few days ago! It even has a lock of David's (?)

hair. I'm not sure what they were getting at with this locket business and

now at 149 and 150, I still don't. The picture of the boy inside is not

David. Dan opens it and it has the hair in it. A creepy ep and I think it

is strange whenever a character comes into it and is only in the show for

one or two eps, it's sort of like the outside world intruding. There is

something wrong during the credit roll, possibly more white lines.

The Dan Riley character seems to be played by a good actor who is only Dan

in these two eps. In 148, he seems to be played by someone else!

This episode also seems to be a "hits" of Dark Shadows music, using many

of the older pieces to good effect again, nay I say Great Effect.
