DARK SHADOWS 133

“Something’s bugging you.”

“There’s always something bugging me.”

“I meant more than usual.”

Laura gets two IDK. Burke gets an IDK. Burke smokes. And that’s about it. No, just kidding. Sam’s painting the woman in fire and covering it up from Maggie. The creepy music helps to make it …well, creepy. Laura is attracted to Burke’s lit match.

There’s a camera on display to the right in the hotel restaurant. Maggie serves an old man costumer. One of the most unusual things is that when discussing David, Burke tells her if she had married him, they could have a kid just like David and Laura says, “Exactly like David.” So, are they implying that David is really Burke’s son? I hope not because I don’t like that idea.

Other than that Sam’s worried, Laura’s mysterious, Burke is plotting to get himself cleared by Laura, and Maggie is in the dark, sort of. The painting is really weird. Sam mentions a fog that has rolled in is bad for the fishermen. He’s avoiding Maggie’s questions again. He hasn’t eaten for  a few days but he’s drinking.

On the other hand, Laura never orders food or eats in the diner AND when she has coffee she doesn’t really drink that. Maggie asks how Laura has avoiding persistent Burke and she’s vague on the answer.  Laura mentions having seen Maggie when she was a little girl; Maggie remembers Burke going with Laura at one point.

Not bad but lots of talk.

Oh and for maybe the first time (?) Vicki’s narration stops, there is a conversation between characters (Burke on the phone with Blair—we do not see Blair) and then narration starts again as the “action” moves to the Evans Cottage and Vicki has to talk about Sam’s worry.

Maggie seems tempted to peek behind Sam’s canvass to the actual painting. BTW in 129 SHE ALREADY SAW THE PAINTING AND COMMENTED ON ITS CONTENTS fully! WT?

Via phone, Burke talks to Blair about Laura. In an odd move, Vicki's

narration stops, then we hear Burke on the phone with Blair and then it

starts again! At his cottage, Sam smokes a pipe and of interest is a

painting behind him of a boy playing outside near a dock and it could be

David in a way. Maggie moves to go see the painting and Sam tries to stop

her from removing the cover. BUT she saw it already. When she does see it

in this ep, she acts as if she's never seen it before!!! WTF? Sam hasn't

really been eating much or drinking too much either...besides alcohol.

Maggie tries to get him to eat something and to open up about what it is

about the woman that is bothering him. "C'mon, this is Maggie you’re

talking to." Who talks like that?

Later in the restaurant, Sam is agitated against Maggie again but when

Laura comes in and says Sam looks the same, hasn't changed, he says,

"Alcohol is a preservative." He calls David a good looking boy. Of note,

the restaurant set has changed. There are steps down to the opening and we

can't see the hotel doors from the opening in the wall! The set has been

redesigned. Burke has tried to contact Laura and despite her telling

Maggie she doesn’t want to run into him just yet, she does. Burke tried to

see Laura, he tells her. Burke smokes. As they talk, they mention David,

at length. During this, Burke says he would like a son exactly like the

kind of person David is. Laura repeats him as if David is BURKE'S SON!

"Exactly the kind of son we could have had." Laura tells him she has to

take care of her own problems first but will help Burke with his. When Sam

takes the cover off the painting of Laura and there's a halo around it that's not supposed to be there.

Either way, it's surreal and creepy.

Snail's pace. Sam is annoying. Maggie is annoying. Burke is once more

      annoying.
