SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON

ISSUE: 2

DATE: March 1963

TITLE: LOST IN SPACE

COVER: LOST IN SPACE, the Robinsons struggle to survive the hazards      of the universe!

NARRATION: In the outer regions of the solar system where the Robinson family operate Earth's first space station, a violent     cosmic explosion rocks their experimental home...

NOTES: Craig and June are drawn much older; Craig has some gray or      white in his hair here; Tim and Tam are drawn much younger and      look like they are 11 and 12; Earth control has a white haired      man who relates bad news. Silvery gray space suits. Later in the story, Craig wears a T-shirt;

LANGUAGE BARRIERS: Notice that the space family either use maxi or      mini language translators; sometimes when they encounter alien      races, the races use telepathy, know English already, or have      their own method of translating and communicating;

SPACE DANGERS: SS1 heads at a fiery star;

LIFE FORMS: A giant mosquito attacks Lonas's home planet Syltron

ENEMIES: Dr. Argo and Creta and her lizard women guards are all      lizard humanoids--who want to DISSECT Tim and Tam in an      underground lab.

ALLIES: Survivor of Argo's experiments who escaped--Lonas of planet      Syltron who came to Argo's planet six months ago. Skinny body,      bald elongated head, small eyes and nose, one rounded foot      like DOCTOR WHO's THE SENSORITES. He is extremely tiny.

WRITTEN INFO: (from the front cover): SpaceMobile--launched from      their space station home, The Robinson's "family car,"  the      space mobile of supersonic speed, is used by young Tim and Tam      Robinson for space explorations. Two identical spacemobiles   are housed aboard the space station. One can be fired from a stabilizer, while the second one enters the opposite side. Mounted on top of the control panel is a "space language"  translation machine. The tele screen gives the pilot a close    up view of his destination. The storage area, between the engine and the pilot's compartment, contains space helmets, food, clothing, a small machine shop, and space tools. Four      landing rockets and three retractable legs, mounted on the      underside of the spacemobile, allow the craft to land gently on rough terrain. (from the back cover): Space Station: Taking   time out from their scientific duties aboard Earth's first    space station, the Robinson family enjoy the pleasures of     their sun deck and garden. The hydraulic conveyance in the   spacemobile garage functions automatically. It "lifts"    incoming spacemobile aboard and then positions it for   launching. Supply rockets, sent up from Earth, are scooped up    by a magnetic, movable hatch. Moving at great speeds, split     second timing is required for the rocket rendezvous. In the      observatory-lab, scientists June and Craig Robinson study the      mysteries of space, chart new galaxies, and record space data for our planet, Earth. June Robinson, in the ultra modern     kitchen, holds a roast that cooks instantly by electronics.   Most meals are prepared by the mere push of a button. The recreation room contains screens for TV and Movie viewing,     games, and exercise equipment. Earth's first space station is    truly a "home" away from home.

QUOTES:

CONTROL MAN: "Gentlemen...the results are positive. Earth     Station      Number One is Lost in Space! There is nothing we can do! If      there is a solution, the answer is out there...with the        Robinsons."

     ALIEN LONAS: "These giants are from Earth!"

     TIM: Poppin' planets! We're probably using up a month's supply         of their food in one sitting!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON

ISSUE: 13

DATE: July 1965

TITLE: THE PIT OF DOOM

COVER: On a fiery cloud in space, June and Craig Robinson risk      their lives to save their son from THE PIT OF DOOM!

NARRATION: After feeling their way by radar through a strange planet's thick cloud cover, the Robinsons have landed their   space station in the middle of lush but menacing life forms... LIFE FORMS: Lots! Thick jungles of flying insectoids, mammals,     beetles with horns of steel which can change shape; many evil     imitations of Tim and Tam; kangaroo like mammals; moving     vines; small islands in the sky with vines that can be dropped

ALLIES: Dalak (yes, Dalak), leader of those above, living on the   sky islands; descended from tree top dwelling peoples; Upok, Matil, Olto; eat fruit from the trees; call the beetles the Oplops; and have fire warriors. Give Robinsons fruit. Dalak's    people call the world below "the Old World."  Dalak's people are short, use circular bows to fire fire arrows, and have   three fingers--the middle one is bigger and continually up.    Live in huts.

FEATURE: "Space-Age Apparel": Tam has a soil proof metallic fiber      which sheds dirt and moisture. When there's time for relaxing (?), she slips into comfortable clothes. On special occasions   Tam wears a sheer overshirt and cape with her tapered capris.     Tim wears a well equipped spacesuit which protects him   from radiation and extreme temperatures. Tim is ready to brave     the cold in thermal one piece suit. It keeps a constant       temperature and is ideal for skiing whenever the Robinsons         find a snowy planet (has a clear visor).

WRITTEN INFO: Craig was given a log tape in OPERATION RESCUE by      Capt. Morrow. Morrow's rocket passed through a highly      radioactive section of cosmic dust and part of the tape was      destroyed. The Robinsons might manage to reach a part of space      that matches the log. They have atmosphere indicators in the      space mobiles. As long as the Space Station remains intact, it      is always possible the Robinsons will one day find their way      back to Earth. If they do return, it would not mean the end of      the series, for there would be adventures on Earth before      taking off again in the space station...and they would take   off again. As citizens of our planet, they would enjoy   spending time again on Earth but as dedicated space scientists, June and Craig feel quite at home in their space      station and out among the stars. Spacemobiles use advanced    rocket fuel, the motors are small but numerous and are   equipped with devices that return the exhaust to the motor     again for refiring. The quantity of fuel used is small.

QUOTE: Tim: "Dad, I thought I saw fruit trees! Maybe we can dicker         with the natives!"

SPACE FAMILY ANNUAL: This story appeared in the annual in comic      form.

SPACE DANGERS: Gravitational fields of a star cluster slow down the      Space Station; the family abandon the SS1 and try to find a      suitable planet to live on for the rest of their lives. 2 days      later, they find the yellow dwarf star has a fourth planet      that is habitable; the third is too hot and farther ones are gas giants; planet has thin air, little water, fuel almost    gone, they sight a city--a space port to land on;

LIFE FORMS: Small green like people once lived on this planet; they      moved their whole planet; flying platforms appear; many of the      people took off from the planet---the new sun made them turn      old; a few did not make it off;

CIRCUMSTANCES: The Robinsons begin to age rapidly; using the devices left on the unfinished ship and the city, they manage     to break free of the planet and back to the Space Station and      break it free of the pull. All de-age back to their normal age.

CLOSING NARRATION: The Great Space Station moves on into the unknown, and the family aboard are not concerned at the moment about where they are heading-they are just happy to be together...and alive.

WRITTEN INFO: Tim and Tam go to school about ten minutes each month--a special device like a tv set flashes events by as    they are put into a hypnotic state. The approximate date of the adventures of the Robinsons is 2000. Tim is 16, Tam is 15. SPACE FAMILY ANNUAL: This tale appeared in text form.

Craig is drawn like Guy Williams, even in a green outfit. Tam looks a bit more like Angela Cartwright.  WRITTEN INFO: Tim is 16, Tam is 15, June is 39, Craig is 41.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 16

DATE: April 1966

TITLE: PRISONERS OF SPACE

COVER: The Robinsons live a nightmare as space prisoners change      their shapes and take over the space station! (in the reprint of this issue, issue 56 the cover says--the Robinsons live a      nightmare as space prisoners change their shapes and take over      the space stationS!)

NARRATION: The Space Station, manned by the scientists Craig and      June Robinson, and their teen-age son and daughter, has broken      loose from its Earth orbit and is now adrift in trackless      space...

ALIENS: Aliens---from Kormat--with four arms, slit eyes and noses,      white and blue, with four webbed toes--versus--formless giant      bipeds with seemingly orange hair and mean faces-Dreephars      from a dense atmosphere--in the air of the SS1 they are weak due to being oxygen starved. The Kormat aliens force the      Robinsons to use SS1 as a transport for their prisoner Dreephars. The Dreephars find the emergency oxygen tanks. The Dreephars change into formless blobs, making the others think    they are dead. The alien Dreephars take over the station and    kill the two guards using a change wrought on by a drink they made. June and Tim with Clancy and Yakker hide in a spacesuit     closet. Tam and Craig get away in the space mobile.

CLOTHES: Tam wears something like Emma Peel from THE AVENGERS.

PLANET FALL: Kormat. Craig and Tam go to it while June, Clancy,      Yakker, and Tim avoid the Dreephars who change back to their      natural state. Kormat launches a fast cruiser which can catch up to the SS1 before it lands on the planet of the Dreephars.    Small red planet whose metal content could hide the SS1 from    the cruiser but Craig picks up June on the radio. June and Tim   hide in the space mobile, drain the air from the ship, killing    the Dreephars, and also planned to blast out of the hangar,   which could have damaged the SS1.

QUOTE: Alien Kormat: Interesting those people from planet      Earth...friendly..quite intelligent but such strange looking      beings..almost unbelievable!

     Tam: Eeeeee! Dad!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 17

DATE: July 1966

TITLE: RIVER OF FIRE

COVER: Giant flying creatures attack the Robinsons above the deadly      RIVER OF FIRE!

COVER ARTIST: George Wilson

NARRATION: The Earth's first space station has been pierced by a      meteorite and forced to land on a strange planet at the edge of a mighty canyon...

PLANET: Earthquakes! Lava flow at SS1! Craig and Tim wear colorful T-shirts. June wears a sleeveless shirt top;

LIFE FORMS: Cultivated fields and farmers; green alien farmers;      Giant flying creatures that take on the color of the fields      they land on; four balls of light--fire balls--visitors from a distant sun are called Dynamins and help the Robinsons since they protected other forms of life.

ALLIES: The green men, one named Kitan have built an underground      city by cultivating a plant whose sap hardens into any mold--     floors, walls, furniture; the Dynamins who didn't tell the      Robinsons their space station wasn't destroyed by the lava      flow who wanted to watch how the family treated the green      farmers but who helped the family a bit and repaired the magnetic drive on the Space Station;

ENEMIES: the bird-manta like flying monsters called the Ma-ak who try to dig through to the underground city and spread poison fumes. The green men build a tunnel to the Space Mobiles, the   family must venture through the poisoned tunnels to their   space mobiles and burn the mantas with their rockets. A manta     sting gets into Tim and Tam's space mobile but the use the      helmets to breath as poison fumes come in from the stinger.    The Mantas head for a lake which June thinks is an inland sea.  NOTE: Years later in 1983 or so, GALAXY EXPRESS, an excellent          Japanese animated series used a very similar story, all but   more serious and thematic to that overall series than it is      here. Also note the 1995 series HYPERNAUTS had a story about      peaceful manta like flyers who were trying to save a volcanic      planet. SPACE ACADEMY's first episode (introducing the semi-     green-brown Loki) had light forces which protected less   advanced life forms.

WRITTEN INFO: The Robinsons were selected by computer as the family      most mentally and physically qualified to man the space   station. The Robinsons were making experiments in the outer   regions of our solar system when the space station was    suddenly rocked by violent cosmic explosions. Its controls   damaged, the space station was hurled at tremendous speed deep     into space and all contact with Earth was lost (not entirely true). The garden on the sun deck supplies all the fresh fruit   and vegetables. There is a supply of other preserved food      aboard, brought with them form Earth. Rain that falls on the      space station is trapped and routed into tanks where it is      purified for drinking. Fuel is no problem for the station as it is powered by electro magnetic drive...and the equipment aboard produces rocket fuel for the space mobiles. COVER    ARTIST IS GEORGE WILSON for all issue (!?).

QUOTE: June: "Craig, they're all heading for that big lake-or is it an inland sea?"

Craig: "Perhaps they're amphibious!"

CAPT. VENTURE: THE CAPTURE: Scotty: I'm just removing this laddie's      wee sword!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 18

DATE: October 1966

TITLE: SLEEP NO MORE, SIR THOMAS

COVER: An emergency landing on a war-torn planet brings the      Robinsons their strangest experience in space!

NARRATION: Earth's first space station, by a strange mischance, has      become lost in space-and now, after bewildering adventures,        its crew faces a new disaster...

SPACE DANGERS: The recycling plant for air and food goes awry--the      electrolyte leaked out and structural stress showed a warping on the hull.

PLANETFALL: A 4th planet with a bit more radiation than on Earth   but not too dangerous. Trees, grass, a ruined, destroyed city. LIFE FORMS: Alien bats inside an alien spaceship, alien tigers one    of whom Thomas has to sword dead. Tam uses Kol's gun on the other tiger inside the Kol spaceship. Craig figures the tigers     were mutations. Vultures. One drops something--gee, I hope it   was a rock!

ALLIES: Sir Thomas Maldrane, Lady Alice, John Bowman, who were at a tourney at Sarum Town in the 12th Century when large giant    aliens landed in a bird's egg-like spacecraft and took them      away 850 years ago. Alan Fletcher, an arrow and bow man.

ALIEN: Kol commander of spaceship Iklatal. His sleep machine wakes him when the family entered the vault. The Robinsons     accidentally awaken the first, Thomas Maldane--June's ancestor    who fought for King Richard the Lionhearted! The giant aliens landed on this planet which had people that wiped themselves     out in a nuclear war. To remain safe, until they could have    help, the giants put themselves and their 12th Century kidnap     victims in suspended state using gas. Craig makes the alien an     offer--show them how to get back to Earth and he will allow the giant and his people to repair the ship. Kol agrees,   seeing Craig's thoughts are honest. Kol gets sick from      Maldane's cold. His system is different from our own.

TIME FRAME: 2002 AD.

OF INTEREST: The family show Thomas London of 2002, Castle Maldane has remained the same. This issue ends with a cliffhanger...only Kol knows the phase astronomy and he lies   recovering...he may die from the virus.

WRITTEN INFO: The Robinsons lived in Woodland Hills, a suburb of   Los Angeles, California. Craig and June worked as scientists in space technology laboratories in the area before being     selected to command Space Station #1. The Robinsons don't   really need robots to help with chores, for there is very   little housework to do, as most everything is done mechanically with built in appliances. A robot smart enough to     show the Robinsons how to find their way back to Earth would     be most useful. Unfortunately, they don't have the knowledge      to build a robot that smart. The Space Station's direction      cannot be controlled from the Spacemobiles. The Station can      have pre-set directions enabling it to reach a destination      without help from anyone on board. The rocket fuel is made by      machinery aboard the Space Station. It is no so much advanced      type fuel that gives the Space Mobiles such speed but the new      type rocket motors which produce speed. The materials covering      SS1 and the Spacemobiles are combinations of steel, plastic, and special chemicals. Instead of becoming red-hot when propelled at fantastic speeds through space, this material   through chemical reaction becomes cool.

NOTE: Frog aliens appear in CAPT. VENTURE-TRAPPED. SLEEP NO MORE   SIR THOMAS became WHITMAN SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON, aka at the   bottom of the issue credits ON SPACE STATION ONE, issue 58    with MAGNUS ROBOT FIGHTER 4000 AD-JOURNEY TO THE END OF THE WORLD. The cover was almost exactly the same except the logo SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE was down at an angle ala     SPACE: 1999 type credits. It was 60 cents as opposed to the 12    cents for issue 18!

QUOTE: Sir Thomas: Lady Robinson, this passeth understanding--but      are we no longer on Earth?

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

TITLE: PLANET OF DOOM

COVER: Tim and his friends face instant destruction from fierce      robots on the PLANET OF DOOM!

NARRATION: After landing their space station for repairs on an      Earth like planet, the Robinsons found a damaged spaceship and      a city devastated by nuclear war---but no human life      until...in an underground vault they found the spaceship's      strange, giant humanids in suspended animation...forced      underground over 800 years before, when they landed their      damaged spaceship for repairs, only to discover the radiation too high to safely stay above ground. Likewise in suspended   animation were fourteen men and women from Earth--12th Century      England, captured for scientific study by the giant Iklatalians. One of the Englishmen, Sir Thomas Maldane, oddly enough, turned out to be an ancestor of June Robinson. The    Robinsons' entrance underground triggered the awakening of the    giants' commander, Kol, who, after capturing the Robinsons,     fell victim to a virus from Earth. Disarmed, Kol promised to    teach Craig the way back to Earth-and then lost consciousness.     Now, he awakens...

TIME FRAME: Kol gets better and helps contact Tim. A week passes...

ALLIES: Maldane, Lady Helen, Elaine Desmond--Helen's niece, Squire      Robert Decourcy--who enjoys a first shower, Alan Fletcher, Sir      Gilbert, Forsooth, Kol's people depart for Iklatal but give   the phase settings to the Robinsons--the virus affected Kol's     brain, preventing him from teaching the Robinsons how to use     and guide it, totally.

ENEMIES: robots, all that is left of a deep nuclear blast in a dead      city

PLANET: has a watery western hemisphere, a few islands, overgrown      with vegetable mutants; all Iklatalians are the same blood      type and can use a united telepathic wave search to locate Tim      and his group who were shot down by a guided missile--the      Space Mobile has protective screens but was shot down;

NOTES: Craig wears a strange one piece orange jumpsuit on the last      page of the tale with a purple short cut shirt over it! A frog      alien, not unlike the one is THE GOLDEN MAN of TV's LOST IN      SPACE appears in the backup strip, CAPTAIN VENTURE-TEST   FLIGHT. He is called Aquarian.

WRITTEN INFO: Vegetable and fruit trees in the two glassed in sun      decks are planted in synthetic earth and watered with      chemicals. The ripening time and size of the fruits and      vegetables are all controlled by the turn of a valve to   regulate the flow and mixtures of the chemicals. Huge tanks   filled with oxygen supply all rooms on the Space Station. A   mechanical device refilters the used air and restores it into     the tanks. The Space Station is 224 feet wide, the towers are     each 158 feet tall, the thickness of the main section between     towers is 40 feet. Clancy is 6 years old; Yakker is 10; both pets were given to Tim and Tam by their parents almost a year    before they left Earth.

CLOSING NARRATION: As the great space station soars away, its      passengers wonder what sensations they will experience as they      prepare for the galactic shift--the crossing of the space-time      continuum.

TITLE: THE TIME TRAP

COVER: The Robinsons fight a 12th Century battle when caught in THE        TIME TRAP!

NARRATION: The Robinson family, manning Earth's lost Space Station,      has made brief contact with a giant race. From this contact   the space station has acquired (1) some fellow castaways,     kidnapped by the giants from twelfth century England; and (2)     an instrument which they hope will shift them back to their   own galaxy...

CIRCUMSTANCES: Space Station One shifts into a different time-space      continuum where Craig sees Alpha Centauri. But landing on a      planet, Earth, they find it is the year 1181 and Vikings are      ready to attack England's coast. This is four years after the      giants from space captured Sir Thomas Maldane of Old Sarum      Town and his group. Leaving Sir Thomas off; Sir Thomas is      reunited with his wife and baby; Tim and Craig encounter a         meteor storm in the space mobile. On the planet, storms hit   the Space Station, which under the command of June, backed by     Sir Gilbert, must leave even though Tim and Craig have not    returned. To return to them, Tim and Craig find their way out     of the far future of 2463 and giant ants to 2004, a few months    after SS1 has lifted off. They then go back to lift off and     find SS1 fighting in an atmospheric storm. Several dangerous maneuvers later, all are reunited.

TIME FRAME: Present Year-2004; a few months after SS1 lifts off; as           SS1 lifts off; 1181; far future-2463

LIFE FORMS: Knights; Timothy the Wainwright, John Turner the         Innkeeper; giant ants in the far future;

ALLIES: Sir Thomas Maldane, Sir Gilbert Delancey, Squire Robert    ENEMIES: Sir Guy Delatour, a Knight who attacks Sir Maldrane's      castle but is driven away by the sight of the Space Mobiles.  NOTE: The phase drive was moved into the Space Mobile and then back  into Space Station One but a cell inside it is damaged by            lightning.

WRITTEN INFO: Forcefield turned on, creates an invisible magnetic      field wall which repels objects. First enemy in space was      Gorko who planned to freeze his neighboring planets. Space      Station One was assembled on the ground. This was possible due      to the use of magnetic energy for its power system, enabling the huge Space Station to lift off the ground and soar to     fantastic speeds. The Robinsons left Earth at 10:00 o'clock    AM, March 17th, 2001.

OF INTEREST: The spaceship designs in this story are exceptional. One is a specimen catcher with metallic arms;

END OF STORY ARC: The English men and women stay on the planet; The      Robinsons, thanks to Tim, get the Space Station back and phase      shift out of their solar system. The English and the Yorkeli      build forts and weapons to use on the Xotalec.

WRITTEN INFO: Tim and Tam miss the company of teenagers and the      activities of the young people on Earth. Their constant      adventures in space keep them from having much time to feel   too lonely. Unknown number of miles traveled. The main   telescope on SS1 is a reflecting type. A small radio telescope   and a spectroscope are also aboard. The space station is 224 feet wide; the towers are each 158 feet tall, the thickness of the main section between the towers is 40 feet. Tam is 15. Up     to 6 issue per year instead of 4.

SOME PLANETS VISITED: Orious, Syltron, Zero, Raynoid, Zytrox, Ixion, Klikag, Norica, Kregara, Altair, and Kormat.

TITLE: OPERATION TIME SHIFT

ART: Dan Spiegle

COVER: A crash landing traps the Robinsons in the depths of a strange and hostile sea...OPERATION TIME SHIFT!

NARRATION: Lost in the vast reaches of the Milky Way, Earth's first      space station encounters a new problem...

SPACE DANGER: Super Nova; Earth is found out to be 1000 light years      away. Magnetism of alien spaceship.

SPACE STATION NOTES: Robinsons wear silver-gray spacesuits with      visible visor helmets. Language translators used. Plastic      bladders used undersea to get SS1 out. Scuba jets.

ALLIES: Tisan, Chief Scientist; his wife Sunda, second; their voyage will take them 872 years in suspended animation;

ALIEN LANGUAGE: Mana Luna means "I have one, too,"  referring to a      language translator.

CIRCUMSTANCES: Alien ship, friendly with aliens in suspended      animation, catches the Space Station in its magnetic drive.      Aliens help Robinsons return to Earth-but a short in the phase      shift causes SS1 to land in an alien sea. Later, escaping the      sea, they see two moons in the sky.

PLANET: Swordfish, two moons moving at different speeds, lighter      gravity than Earth, smaller than Earth,

CLIFFHANGER: The Space Family find out they are on Mars but not      Mars of their 21st Century but Mars of untold ages before man      appeared on Earth. The Time Shift on the phase machine went      haywire. Mars still has water and most of its atmosphere.

QUOTE: "Then we're still a long way from home---lost in time, if      not in space."

WRITTEN INFO: Robinsons met US Air Force rocket explorers in issue 1 and 11. They met 12th Century English folk in issue 18. Tim   is 16, Tam is 15. Besides fruit and vegetable gardens on the     Space Station, the Robinsons, when they come to a planet that   has wild game, restock their meat supply. A reserve supply of      food pills that swell up to dinner size meals when water is     added are also aboard for emergency use. Pluto is over 2 and   half billion miles from the sun. The Robinsons were exploring the outer regions of our solar system when a series of violent   cosmic explosions damaged the SS's control system and sent it   plunging at fantastic speeds into deep space. They lost   contact with Earth and have been traveling through the distant   reaches of space ever since.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

DATE: August 1967

TITLE: MENACE FROM URANUS (hey!)

COVER: A forced landing! A fierce Golick! A fight for life! MENACE      FROM URANUS! (hey! A fierce Go-lick? Uranus?)

NARRATION: Owing to an accident to their time-shift mechanism, the      space family Robinsons (yes plural in the original comic) have      landed on Mars-not Mars as the 21st Century knows it, but Mars      of untold ages ago, before it lost its atmosphere...

CIRCUMSTANCES: Crash landed on Mars in the far past.

LIFE FORMS: Rats, mice, rodents called Chessas who eat up the oases, hard shelled giant lizards called Golicks ten feet tall   and green with tongues that capture prey.

ALLIES: 50 miles from SS1 is a city; a man in armor has arms like the TV LOST IN SPACE Robot; Sibanhu is a yellow haired, yellow    faced alien and they have had recent space visitors before      SS1--unfriendly ones; the aliens are less heavy to Tim and Tam     since there is less gravity;

ENEMIES: Ships from the 7th planet attack Mars with paralyzing gas;      a giant sphere (like a giant TV LOST IN SPACE Jupiter II with      more legs) is pure sodium metal and is five degrees below      absolute zero; aliens have one eye in their helmets and bulky      red-purple like space suits; Tim drops water on the space      saucer and starts a fire with the rockets of his spacemobile-- the aliens flame up and crash into a sea;

SPACE STATION: Sun deck used as Craig and the Councilors of Mars      agree to help each other.

GEAR: Mars's people have nifty space helicopters.

MARS: No open rivers, pipes and aqueducts bringing water from the      polar ice caps to the oases. Giant meteor craters. Under one is a powerful magnetic pull which downs the copter Tam, Craig    are in with two aliens; they are attacked by a Golick--Craig     hits it in the brain and kills it; Tim helps the aliens   perfect a weapon of liquid fire and water to against the     returning Uranians; they destroy the next saucer;

NOTE: An unusually violent issue with the heroes as well as the      enemies causing death and destruction, even in defense, harsh      nature as the Golick eats a Chessas;

WRITTEN INFO: Craig weighs 196 pounds, June 128, Tim, 145, and Tam      110, Clancy 25, Yakker 5 and a half pounds; Tim and Tam were not scientists but since leaving Earth they have picked up    much scientific knowledge by observing and working with their parents (Oh boy!). Some PLANETS the Robinsons have landed on:    Orious, Syltron, Zero, Raynoid, Zytrox, Ixion, Kliklag,     Norica, Kregara, Altair, and Kormat. The Robinsons are in the year 2004 and the Knight in the October issue left Earth in     1154. Each spacemobile is 25 feet long and 7 feet wide and each weights 1300 pounds. Space Mobiles reuse their exhaust   waste for fuel and added power; the Space Station was selected      after years of research to be the most perfectly suited for a      combination home to house earth's first family to live in      space and scientific laboratory for exploring our solar   system. The object in the dome is a powerful telescope.

QUOTE: Alien woman: "No man of Mars could have struck such a blow,      Craig Robinson!"

INSIDE FRONT COVER: gives us an idea of what Earth is like in the      Robinson's time: Rainmaking could permit cities to spring up in the desert, domed cities could protect man from violent   storms and provide an air conditioned atmosphere for whole      nations, increasing man's life span, some homes and cities    could be built undersea and to harvest a crop of water-growing      food supplements. The brain of a genius could be hooked up to     a computer, allowing man's intelligence to quickly draw upon    a large storage of facts, travelling by teleportation is also   possible---physical bodies or objects would be changed into     energy, transported by radio and reconstituted again.

BACKUP STRIP: CAPT. VENTURE-OUT OF THE DEPTHS: the two, Rex Venture      and Scotty McCay are eaten while inside a small scoutship--     swallowed by a whale, ala VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA-     JONAH AND THE WHALE. Inside, they find an alien Troglodyte      submarine which looks a bit like the Seaview.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 24

TITLE: THE SAVAGE EARTH

COVER: Prehistoric Beasts and Fire Gods peril the Robinson's visit to Ancient Earth!

NARRATION: After crash landing on the planet Mars by a malfunction of their space-time shift, the Robinsons have made firm      friends of the Martians of a million or so years ago...as they watch their space station being repaired by Martian workmen, members of the ruling council arrive....

CIRCUMSTANCES: The family go to Earth in this past time. They pass      Western Canada and Texas;

LIFE FORMS: Shovel tusked mastodons, camels, horses, end of the      Pliocene Epoch, land bridge between Asia and Alaska,      Pliohippus-horse of a million years ago, Neohipparion-three      toed horses, a leaf eating ground sloth bear, Teratornis-a      condor; otters, little colt, Giganticamelus skull found,      1,000,000 years ago; saber tooth tiger vs. an elephant wooly      mammoth and the tiger loses; the mammoth attacks the space         mobile;

ALLIES: The Mars aliens make a phase shift repair device which can      only go into the future and they also repair the SS1.

TIME FRAME: First: a million years back, then from that point they go to 11 or 12 thousand years BC where they see Paleo Indians,   then they time jump a few more times and see the lost     continent of Atlantis still there--where the Robinsons save two young sacrifices-a boy and girl-from the hands of the    statue of the great fake god Minto-which has a volcanic tap    beneath it so the priests could make it shoot fire up to     consume the kids--but this is interfered with by Craig and     Tim via a space mobile.

SPACE STATION GEAR: On a telescreen they see natives on Earth fight      off a wooly mammoth.

OF INTEREST: Saturday Morning Two page spread featuring MOBY DICK, THE HERCULOIDS, MIGHTY MIGHTOR, CAVE BOY TOR, TOG THE FLYING DRAGON, SHAZZAN!, JOHNNY QUEST!, AND SUPERMAN AQUA MAN HOUR!

WRITTEN INFO: The Robinsons can fly the SS1 indefinitely using its      magnetic power drive. One letter writer commented that most      aliens have the same basic Earth man type shape; the comment      back: "Our artist has that same basic Earth man shape. Perhaps      we need a weird shaped artist to get some space people who      look different. A reader writers in with a commonly made comment--to add a Robot. The response: "Tim and Tam do many things that a robot would do. If they had to sit in the SS    while a robot explored the new planets, they would miss out on    much of the excitement they now experience."

BACK UP STRIP: CAPT. VENTURE started in issue #6 in February 1964.      This, issue 24, CAPT. VENTURE-THE BIG WAVE has a tidal wave, a splendid sea monster, and green skinned half nekkid people!

NOTE: VERY SURREAL AND NICELY DONE COVER!

TITLE: THE FALL OF ATLANTIS

COVER: A time-shift places the Robinsons at Earth's most awesome      disaster...THE FALL OF ATLANTIS!

NARRATION: No longer lost in space, but back ten thousand years in      time, the Space Station hovers over "Mintlan," the capital of the continent of "Atlantis"!

ENCOUNTER: Great God Minto; A very well drawn issue and cover, as      always; this one is particularly nice!

ALLIES: Saved sacrificial offerings--Nilita and Alonto, farmers who      take the former sacrificial offerings into their fold--Jotham,      Alonto gives him a cutting tool;

OF NOTE: An astrogater (TV'S LOST IN SPACE) like device is drawn as      the phase device; Robinsons tell the two allies Nilita and         Alonto about their time: travel between cities on monorail      trains (which are below the rails), all cities are enclosed in      domes, and ships travel with goods under the water in titanic      ocean liner submarines, men circle the world in one hour in   sky ships and even visit other planets. A robot in "the readers draw monsters contest" looks suspiciously like the   Robinson robot on TV's LOST IN SPACE especially around the   arms and upper body. Back up strip CAPT. VENTURE-THE LAW OF     THE SAVAGE details a green race of half naked men and women     who live in a luminous underground world ala THE GIRL FROM THE GREEN DIMENSION?

TIME FRAME: 8000 BC.; June feels it is their duty to warn Atlantis of the coming sinking. This nearly costs her and Craig their     lives when the statue falls at them and the soldiers and   citizens attack them; Tim and Tam take the two former sacrifices to Eastern End of the Mediterranean where farmers lived in houses and raised grain--a land called later Tiberias   in Palestine. The kids return to save their parents from being sacrificed and then they all just barely escape in Space     Mobiles to SS1 and SS1 just makes it away before Atlantis is      destroyed.

WRITTEN INFO: In the February 1967 issue, a seat was installed near      the lead in exit-entrance to the cabin to accommodate extra      passengers. It hooks onto the door and can be easily removed and placed in the storage area when not needed. Tim is one    year older than Tam. The thin atmosphere of space does not      create enough pressure to endanger the domes on the top of the     towers of SS1. When traveling at high speeds in areas of heavy      atmosphere, the force field around the Space Station removes    the pressure from the cabin. In issue 12, the Robinsons were     captured by a patrol of Iron Dwarfs. The Robinsons were on and     off of Mars in issues 22, 23, and 24. They have not yet been   to Venus.

NEWLY LOST: Upon leaving Atlantis, the Space Station One is shocked      waved by the old space shift device...into the right time but      strange space.

QUOTE:

Craig: "So, once again, we are lost in space!"

June: "But safe and sound, Craig! Most of all, that's what                  matters!"

TITLE: PRISONERS OF THE BRAIN

COVER: The Robinsons, overpowered by a super intelligence, become      PRISONERS OF THE BRAIN!

NARRATION: Lost in space, Earth's first space station waits in      orbit about an unnamed sun, while two members of the Robinson      family explore the third planet for intelligent life.

ENEMIES: Intelligence of Planet Four, robots,

LIFE FORMS: Wolf like animals, 7380 robotic manikins in a metal      city,

CIRCUMSTANCES: The "Brain" captures June and Craig, then Tim and      Tam. The family use a tape of Nursery Rhymes from Earth to      confuse the "Brain."

WRITTEN INFO: The original mission was to make a scientific      exploration of Earth's solar system. The domes on the space      station's towers allow sunlight to filter through to the      vegetable gardens and fruit trees planted at the top of the      towers. Each Robinson has an extensive wardrobe for most      occasions. Tam and June make new outfits in their spare time. The Space Station is so automatic it could be run by one      person. There is no house cleaning as it is airtight.

OF INTEREST: A question in the letter column asked, "Was the idea of the TV program LOST IN SPACE gotten from this comic?"     Answer: Our comic was published regularly for three years   before the TV show went on the air...and the sub title of our second issue was LOST IN SPACE. Also, a fan from Glasgow,    Scotland wrote in.

INSPIRATION for this issue seems to be THE GHOST PLANET.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 28

DATE: June 1968

TITLE: WHEN SUNS COLLIDE

COVER: Swarms of frenzied bat people plague a planet doomed for      destruction...WHEN SUNS COLLIDE!

NARRATION: Earth's first space station, now lost in space,      approaches a vast circle of light beyond which no stars   show...

SPACE DANGERS: the SS1 goes through a black circle--a black hole?-     into a different galaxy.     There, the Robinsons help bird people      who save Tim and Tam, against the bat people but an even greater danger--two suns exploding debris toward the planet;      they help the bird people take their planet through the circle     of light (SPACE: 1999 did similar things later in the mid   70's-THE BLACK SUN, SPACE WARP).

PLANET FALL: Planet IV, a cold planet with some snow, deep chasms, and canyons, a mountain rising out of one; Planet Four is not     the home of the bird people but Planet Four is. The Robinsons      later go there. After traveling though the circle of light,   the SS1 is buried under snow but recovered.

LIFE FORMS: Bear size and like otter beasts; they dig up a tree Tim      and Tam hide up in but Craig comes to their rescue with a      laser pistol, the tree falls into the chasm but large winged      bird people catch the two kids;

ALLIES: Kielok, chief astronomer of Planet Helikon--a bird person      with a pendant on; his planet, the 4th planet, is near two      suns which have collided--the planets around the suns have      already been vaporized; a runaway galaxy has entered the bird      people's galaxy with invading suns; the Robinsons take SS1 to      Helikon to help in a plan: move their planet; Clancy and Yakker alert Tim and Tam to the creeping up bat people. The      bird people are also called the AVIANS.

ENEMIES: the bat people who arrived in spaceships.

WRITTEN INFO: Vehicles of the family are made of heat resistant      materials-metals, plastics, and glass designed for space b      advanced technology on Earth. The exterior also filters out      harmful radiation and insulates the ship to maintain a    constant temperature inside. SS1 normally enters a planet's   atmosphere while the spacemobiles are still on board. If it enters an atmosphere on its own, as it does from time to time,    deceleration prevents excessive heat from friction. Tim and Tam, free from scientific duties sometimes, can read microfilm books, watch movies, play music and games, or use the gym on    the Space Station One. Freeze dried meat is kept on board as      well as growing plants in the greenhouses, The family can also      get meat when they land on planets where there is edible animal life (yeeeek!). While in flight between solar systems,    the family receive the proper radiation from artificial sun     lamps.

QUOTE: Craig: "But we are lost--lost in space."

BACK UP STRIP: CAPT. VENTURE-ABANDON SHIP-Another appearance of      half naked savages.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

TITLE: THE FORMLESS FOE

COVER: THE FORMLESS FOE! A moving, monstrous thing that devours all      living beings it encounters!

NARRATION: Exploring an earth type planet for signs of    civilization, Tim and Tam Robinson spot a strange object and report to their parents in the space station...

CIRCUMSTANCES: Abandoned alien car and human skeletons;

ALLIES: Pointy ears, red hair, thick eyebrowed aliens; Capt. Abunya; squirrel-kangaroo like animal intellectual aliens warn    the others of a white thing; little humanids fishing--they    resemble monkey men with long toes like tree frogs; they carry pouches; one monkey man is Deet-Dad and he and his kind grow     white mushrooms;

SPACE STATION INFO: Workshop, large hallway,

ENEMIES: Giant one celled white thing killed by the Robinsons.

WRITTEN INFO: Top designers and workmen were selected from several      aerospace industries throughout the United States to construct      the Space Station One. Commander Kol returned to his home      planet Iklatal. The Robinsons have a device aboard the Space      Station that can diagnose and prescribe treatment for most any      illness. If one of the family needed an operation, it would be      necessary to find a planet with competent doctors. The      designers of SS1 had the interior pressurized to offset any      feeling of weightlessness. Tim and Tam have a teaching machine      which puts them in a semi-hypnotic state and implants any      subject matter into their brains within a few seconds. No      tests are needed. The English people in issue 19 were left on a planet at their own request in issue 21--it resembled the     British country side.

QUOTE: From the letters page: "I've been wondering why Tim hasn't a girl friend. He's surely old enough to have a romance in      space. With all those young other world beauties, he must have   been attracted to one. So please let him fall head over heels for one gal."  ANSWER: "A very good suggestion. Let's hope     that happens."

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

TITLE: ATTACK OF THE PLANT CREATURES

COVER: Tim and Tam Robinson wage a battle of survival aboard a      distressed space ship...ATTACK OF THE PLANT CREATURES

NARRATION: Following a friendly space ship toward its home planet, the Robinsons notice a sudden change in its course!

GEAR: Yellow space suits with clear square helmet;

LIFE FORMS: Fish faced tentacled plant monsters which took over the      alien ship escorted by the Space Station, the plant men      reproduce by fission and came aboard when they stopped at a      green planet; pointy eared Mr. Spock lookalikes; one seems      Oriental; Tim shoots the ship's air out into space and this      kills the plant men but also accelerates away from SS1; Tam   and Impak got out in a life boat; Craig leaps from Space      Mobile to the ship of the other survivors to bring them air;  ALLIES: Space Chief Harnot; Impak; other aliens who escaped the     plant creatures in a shuttle but Impak and Harnot were cut off  OF NOTE: The aliens use a three paneled window like Jupiter II; LAND OF THE GIANTS comic coming soon promo; one of the plant      men uses a flame thrower--the fire goes out when the ship's     air is sucked out;

WRITTEN INFO: There is a metal plaque on a wall inside the Space      Station which gives all pertinent information. As a scientific      library, much space was needed to store equipment and to conduct the many scientific tests of our solar system planned     by the Robinsons--also, the designers did not want the family    to feel cramped in their home away from home. The Robinsons have been lost in space for six years. They left Earth in    2001. In issue 27, the brain stayed alive for longer than six minutes.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 31

DATE: December 1968

TITLE: THE DARK PLANET

COVER: THE DARK PLANET...where alien creatures control life and      light until the arrival of the Robinsons!

NARRATION: The Aldaran spaceship the Robinsons have been following to its home planet slows to a relative stop. Craig Robinson hails it by videophone...

CIRCUMSTANCES: Home planet of the aliens, Aldar, has disappeared   but it is still there, just not reflecting light or any other      radiation.

ALLIES: Chief of electronics for the aliens--Ira Modap. He and      Craig set up wires outside the space station to the biggest      generator. Lord Aturbin calls Craig, "Captain Robinson,"  and      looks a bit like Mr. Fitzhugh from LAND OF THE GIANTS with the      Spock ears. The aliens' spaceship is called COMET. Aldar is      freezing now that everything went dark. A strange insectoid      grasshopper-mantis like creature with a gun. Kamtar is aide to      Aturbin.

ENEMIES: The insectoids' planets in their own star system are      overcrowded and they will try to take the planets of Adlar's      sun.

OF INTEREST: Ad for LAND OF THE GIANTS-COUNTDOWN TO ESCAPE comic. An elevator in the space mobile park area on SS1 looks like a larger freezing tube from TV'S LOST IN SPACE. Aturbin, after     winning the battle with lots of help from the family, asks them to remain on the planet to live. Craig's answer: "The call of our native Earth is too strong in our blood! We must      keep hoping against hope to find her, somehow, somewhere!"  In     addition there are a few quotes about not giving up and almost    giving up which make this a running theme of this issue. Days   after the battle the Robinsons are given an estimate as to     where the Earth is.

QUOTE: Chief Aldar Astronomer: I need not warn you of the perils of      space-wandering.

BACKUP STRIP: Strip is the key word as in CAPTAIN VENTURE-HUNTERS OF THE DEEP, the two main astronauts and several native tribes   they encounter hardly wear any clothes! This is not unique to this issue, either!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 32

DATE: February 1969

TITLE: THE ULTIMATE WEAPON

COVER: The attack of the AMPHIBIAN CREATURES!

NARRATION: The Robinsons, observing brilliant flashes on a strange,      earth like planet, have left their station in orbit and are      exploring with their space mobiles. Their caution in not risking the space station is well justified!

ENEMIES: Fish like space-sea ships fire at the Spacemobiles with      alien fish monster-men inside. The fish intelligences are      called Iktans. Commander Tikpo. The CIC stays while his fish      people leave, frightened by Eilot's thought machine. The CIC      goes down and up with the base--supposedly.

ALLIES: A giant light paralyses the Robinsons. Tall, skinny aliens are called Thelan people who have commandos. Eilot is their   leader. They unfreeze the family, making sure they are friendly. Wearing a scale like shirt, Atula is second in    command, a female. The Iktans from the 4th planet took over    this planet, forced the Thelans to leave it. Now, suicide missions return. This commando group is stranded here when      their rocket was shot down. They have rocket guns. The planet      they fled to is called New Thela. The aliens allow Craig to      image himself a message back to Earth and they also build a      machine to project a solid functioning likeness of himself to any point he chooses--it may help them find their way back    home. This takes a whole month and SS1 has to be in orbit for   that time.

NOTE: Clancy is with the Robinsons on this trip down to the planet.

OF INTEREST: Craig asks the Thelans, who cannot locate Earth, if he      can send his thoughts to Earth (?). He does. On Earth, Hank      Barrows, astronomer in charge is being interviewed by two      reporters in the Bear Mountain Observatory about the SS1 and the cosmic forces that took it away. Suddenly, Craig's image appears to tell them to tell their friends they are alive and   making their way back to Earth. Hank and Craig seem to be   friends or at least to know each other. Craig's scene,   returning home, is hilariously but also seriously done--a fine sequence.

WRITTEN INFO: SS1 is not armed. The magnetic power drive is too      large to be used in the space mobiles.

BACK UP STRIP: CAPT VENTURE-AND THE LAND BENEATH THE SEA was its   own comic in the summer of 1969; here in issue 32, CAPT.      VENTURE-ABANDONED occurs, with frog like aliens who are      friendly as well as porpoise men who are friendly fighting the   Trog on Aquaria.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 33

DATE: April 1969

TITLE: THE ARCH OF NO RETURN

COVER: Startling beyond belief...beyond this world...THE ARCH OF NO      RETURN!

NARRATION: Craig Robinson intently adjusts the controls of his new      thought projection machine--a gift from the engineers of the      planet Theta...

NOTE: Hank Barrow is visited by colleagues--they think he is crazy.      His story of seeing Craig Robinson's thought projection a      couple of MONTHS AGO make them think he should enter a    hospital and submit to a psychiatric examination. Just then, Craig makes another appearance and this one is just as classic   and fine: funny and non-chalantly done by Craig, stunning the   other scientists. "Oh, June says hello!" Craig is told by    Eilot of Theta and New Theta that the have developed a new     device, a space warp for intergalactic travel. Tim and Tam     want to explore a Mars-like world.

CIRCUMSTANCES: on the flowery planet which does not have enough      gravity to hold an atmosphere Tim and Tam find a dead city      under a dome which has a hole in it, broken by a meteorite      probably. They also find a strange arch in the city. Going      through it, Tim vanishes, to be followed by Tam. On the other      side is another planet.

PLANETS: Mars like planet-see above; new planet Tim and Tam went      through the Arch to: giant mushrooms, giant worms, giant ants,      giant plants, giant honey bees--all somewhat alien looking; it      traps the kids in a honey comb ala the Ray Harryhausen version      of MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. A giant butterfly; Tim guesses the builders of yet another city of the same people who transposed     here through the arch, were experimenting with growth   hormones. The lower forms of life--the plants killed off the   alien builders and invaded this new city. Tim and Tam have no    idea where the planet they are on is.

OTHER LIFE FORMS: A regular bee; a caterpillar; a giant tree snail- -carnivorous; moss; June and Craig go to find the kids using   thought projections of themselves--flying in space without   space suits and landing on the planet bodily! A giant dragonfly. The kids find another arch with help from their    parents' thought projections. A giant praying mantis attacks first and gets the projections of June and Craig.

ALLIES: Hank Barrows.

STUPID PERSON: Dr. Somers returns with a message from the      colleagues that saw Craig's form the last time he appeared to      Hank at Bear Mt. Observatory. Somers tells Hank he and his      colleagues are prepared to forget the mass illusion Hank created. Just then, Craig puts in another appearance, getting      needed star charts from Hank, scaring Somers away.

WRITTEN INFO: The plan was for the family to be in space one year. The Robinsons have laser rifles but the Spacemobiles do not   have build in lasers.

OF NOTE: STAR TREK-THE PERIL OF THE QUICK CHANGE comic ad.

BACK UP STRIP: Capt. Venture and Scotty Mackay are not lost in      space but stranded on a water covered planet with no way to      communicate their position to Earth. Their mission was to      probe space in an advanced rocket ship. This issue-CAPT. VENTURE-CITY UNDER THE SEA--Rex Venture is drawn like an older    Tim and even a younger Tim in some frames. Frog like aliens    are friendly.

QUOTE: Tim: We're back, mom! And I think it will be awhile before      Tam and I explore another planet!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 34

DATE: June 1969

TITLE: TRACKED BY THE DOOM MISSILE

COVER: Escape in space...TRACKED BY THE DOOM MISSILE!

NARRATION: Searching for a helpful civilization, Tim and Tam Robinson have explored another solar system by space mobile, only to find the one oxygen planet empty of life. Tim reports    to the Space Station...

SPACE DANGERS: An asteroid belt

LIFE FORMS: VERY alien looking beings this time: slits for nose and      mouth, large bug eyes, elongated snouts, one is called Hawbeek      and another Potak--from a methane type planet; they made war on humans on the third planet; these enemies use war ships, anti matter missiles and are from the fourth planet of methane.

TIME FRAME: The humans awakened by Tim have been suspended for 8000      years, survivors of the war between them and the methane      breathing aliens.

ALLIES: Android Number One, purple haired Lady Danea and her      survivors who leave their world in a giant spaceship called      Okandra which looks oddly like the Enterprize in the original      STAR TREK and also VERY MUCH LIKE the Enterprize in STAR TREK:      VOYAGER. Danea and her aliens' planetarium has an open side   and ceiling--not unlike that in LOST IN SPACE-THE DERELICT.

NOTE: Backup strip CAPT. VENTURE, features a Scottish astronaut         with Venture (as always) named Scotty! Also featured are frog      aliens and an alien abandoned submarine--which looks a great      deal like the SEAVIEW from VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA!

QUOTE:

Upon leaving the suspended animation forcefield bubble dome, Lady Danea (dressed like the Aunt Gamma from PRINCESS OF SPACE) thought Tim and Tam were planetary survivors of the war.

Tim tells her, "We are not from your planet, nor even from your solar system."

Danea: "Yes! I can see now! Your hair is not the color of ours...AND OTHER THINGS."  This is a riot!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 35

DATE: August 1969

TITLE: SPACE GIANTS (the title of a Japanese sci-fi live action      show with about 52 episodes)

COVER: An emergency landing plunges the Robinsons into the grasp of      SPACE GIANTS! (on the cover art, Tim looks like a full grown and muscular man!)

NARRATION: As Earth's first space station wanders, lost in space,      three small meteorites whip through the main oxygen tanks!

PLANETFALL: A nice lush and neat forest this time. A city of giants      in almost Jolly Green Giant like clothes. They hold down the      Space Station with weighted ropes.

LIFE FORMS: A giant dog with many fangs--which runs from a slap      from Tim. Tim and Craig were outside when the SS1 was stolen by the giants who do not seem to have mouths. They do have two   claw like appendages instead of fingers. Tam and "mom" pick up     Tim in a space mobile. They win back the SS1 and leave.

TIM'S THOUGHTS: Wow! Mom is some pilot!

CLOSING NARRATION: Glad to have the hostile planet behind them, the      Robinsons are now anxious to move on into space-into the unknown.

NOTE: Capt. Venture seems to have his own comic now but still appears as backup here--CAPT. VENTURE-THE MAN HUNTERS. A     violent episode many of the alien Trogs die from being grabbed up by the neck by plant vines on one huge bush, then poisoned by the tentacles!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 36

DATE: October 1969

TITLE: CRASH COURSE WITH PLANET THREE

COVER: Tim Robinson attempts a mid-air rescue while on a CRASH      COURSE WITH PLANET THREE!

NARRATION: Swept away by unexplained cosmic forces, and lost in      space, Earth's first space station approaches a strange      planetoid.

PLANETS: A little world only 20 miles across and an atmosphere.      Oxygen nitrogen and a few small bodies of water. It is like a      miniature of the other oxygen planet in this solar system. The      home world is Bathune.

LIFE FORMS: Birds near lakes, water falls, all Earth size, plants,      flowers, butterflies,

ENEMIES: Prince Rogan of an artificial planetoid he made which has a mechanical heart, producing gravity, heat, and power for a    million years. There are also metal pieces which fall with   hand prints on them. The Prince has been exiled here. He is    freed by Tam and Craig and tells them he has been imprisoned underground in the complex in suspended animation for less      than 100 years. He uses them to try to take back his throne--  all lies of course. At first, he tries to make Tam fall for him. He threatens Tam with a needle of death and leaves Craig     to die on the planetoid. When Rogan won't cut drive as his      space mobile (going at half speed thanks to a trick by Tam), Tim and Craig must link up with the spacemobile before it     burns up in the gravity pull atmosphere of the mother planet.    They save both space mobiles and return Rogan to his planet    prison. Rogan's crime was trying to usurp his brother's throne   and if Tam and Craig didn't free him, he would have remained prisoner for over a million years at which time the air and water would go when the planetoid lost its gravity machine    produced gravity. The aliens have strange hair, kind of like   a second eyebrow type of bangs.

CLOSING NARRATION: And soon after, a furious young prince watches his erstwhile "guests"  vanish into space."  (A WELL DRAWN,   POETIC END FRAME).

OF INTEREST: Ads for new Saturday Morning cartoons including      FANTASTIC VOYAGE and THE ADVENTURES OF GULLIVER. Back up strip      CAPT. VENTURE-THE DEADLY WALL has a spaceship-submarine which      looks a great deal like a modernized Seaview from VOYAGE TO   THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA especially around the conning tower. Ad     for new FANTASTIC VOYAGE comic--world beneath the roots of a      strange plant. SPACE: 1999 had a similar story, END OF ETERNITY.

QUOTES:

Tim: Mom, Dad! Let Tam and me explore it in a spacemobile!

Craig: No, Tim! You've had some close calls lately-by being too      daring! This time you stay here!

Tam: It's only a swimming pool, dad, but I'd love to jump in!

Craig: The truth, is, Prince Rogan, we've been lost in space, for a long time!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE ON SPACE STATION ONE

ISSUE: 37

DATE: October 1973

TEASER: recap of being lost in space, then lost in time, then back

TITLE: THE 7 MECHANICAL MEN

COVER: A daring rescue by the Robinsons saves young captives  from a fiery doom!

TEASER NARRATION: In the year 2001, the Robinsons, Earth's first      family to live space, are exploring our solar system aboard      space station one when a cosmic explosion hurls the huge craft      deep into the far reaches of the galaxy. Much later...powered by a faster than light magnetic drive, the Space Station has     visited many stars in its search for a clue to Earth's location--and has explored their planets with the Robinson's two spacemobiles. Each world is different-and often disappointing! Sometimes the station's telescreen, focussed on      a strange planet, shows an unearthly city. More than once     their reception is unfriendly! On one planet, a kindly race of   scientists tries to teach the Robinsons their advanced "phase      astronomy."  Later...with the new space-time machine in the      Robinson's space station...with the space time machine      installed in space mobile number one, Craig and Tim set      out...next instant...after two more careful phase shifts, the      spacemobile cruises above Earth's north atlantic ocean.

NOTE: In this recap, Tim looks like he wears a jumpsuit that looks      like a bathing suit for women--over clothes and Tam seems to      have on her pajamas or PJ-like outfit!)

NARRATION: The Robinsons, moving on through the depths of space,      approach a volcano-covered planet...

ALLIES: Toburo, one of the young who is saved from sacrifice. Mara-     Lua, a girl saved. The Robinsons take 8 young survivors from      their volcano planet to a new planet.

LIFE FORMS: giant reptiles, dinosaurs, flying reptiles

CIRCUMSTANCES: In a flowering city Androids who all look alike--     Numbers One through Seven--mechanical men created by a team of      French scientists in the year 2001. They sent the robots out in a great ship to explore the planets of double star Gamma Andromedae and to colonize it. The human beings in suspended    animation, died and the ship seemed to fall out of normal space. The robots landed, built the city, and have waited to    serve someone. The young former sacrifices will live here. The    robot androids use sticky web guns to try to keep Tim and     Tam's space mobile here before they realize this will happen.  NOTE: Another high speed elevator appears.

MISPRINT: Tim: Das has figured out what to do, Tam! Just wait! (It      should be "Dad has figured out what to do, Tam! Just wait!"

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE ON SPACE STATION ONE

ISSUE: 38

DATE: January 1974 (my first issue and the 1st I ever saw)

TITLE: WEB OF DOOM

COVER: Space spiders trap the Robinsons in a WEB OF DOOM!

NARRATION: Approaching an earth type planet to investigate some      strange radio signals, space station one is caught and drawn by a powerful magnetic force.

CLOTHES: The family wear some nifty new ones-Craig wears white with      pink lining on the collar and neck area as well as the belt, Tim wears a vest over lined shirt.

ALLIES: Aliens with blue faces and giant rocket ship, streamlined,      have bones of iron base, therefore they are stuck in their      tilted spacecraft. The alien rocket ship has someone leave and      also has in the control room, an astrogater not unlike TV'S      LOST IN SPACE's Jupiter II. There is also a gang hatch coming up from one deck not unlike some seen in TV'S LOST IN   SPACE=PRINCESS OF SPACE, MUTINY IN SPACE, THE LOST CIVILIZATION and others. Termal, the blonde blue boy alien; his sister Tula made it out of their ship and they aide Tim and Tam when June and Craig are captured by spider men and brought down under the ground to be interrogated. Tim and Tam      find giant eggs that are buildings. Tula is not unlike JUDY      ROBINSON in appearance except her skin is blue. Holding hands      with Tula and Termal, Tim and Tam can thought-sleep the   spiders down.

ENEMIES: Spider men and women that use egg shaped buildings, liquid      containers in some buildings, doors that look like the cabins on TV'S LOST IN SPACE Jupiter II, and trap spaceships, eat   their occupants, and care for their own eggs. Stun guns. The    spiders live under and in a mountain of cold. The spiders at      one point use sub-sonic vibrations to nearly recapture all the    Robinsons. Tim fights it off and stuns the spider doing this.

GEAR: The jet packs are used this time as Tim and Tam use the spider's own stun guns against them to save June and Craig.

QUOTE: June: "EEEEE! Craig!"

COMMENT: My favorite issue, probably since it was the first one I      saw. It also has some great imagery and artwork. The cover is      well drawn and exciting.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IS SPACE ON SPACE STATION ONE

ISSUE: 39

DATE: April 1974

TITLE: CRISIS ON PLANET 4

COVER: Alien space ships use panic beams to capture the Robinsons:      CRISIS ON PLANET 4

NARRATION: Exploring with their spacemobile the third planet of a      Sol-type star, Tim and Tam Robinson come upon a scene of furious activity.

LIFE FORMS: Tarantula Giants surround a purple eyed, blue faced      girl who can read thoughts and can move fast--her talisman      supplies her with increased kinetic energy. Tim burns the      spiders to death. The girl's name is Ualda. Ualda gives them      talismans to help get away to help their parents. She shows      them a 3D film in her space traveler of alien raiders.

ENEMIES: Aliens in a pyramid shaped ship use scout ships to flush the natives out of hiding and herd them like cattle using a   panic ray. SS1 hides in a deep gulch on the 4th planet. There   Craig and June are captured and herded into an adobe corral   with native tribesmen by alien spaceships and a heavy log gate is shut. The aliens are in yellow suits with red fronts and    have fly-like eyes.

ALLIES: Ualda; seal-humanoid aliens who swim under the water; alien      commandant is called Garnark--dressed in black and some   yellow, looking like a batman. Tim's form cannot be rayed by      the Commandant who shoots his own men and they shoot him. The     aliens panic--effects of their own panic rays and start     shooting each other and downing their own ships. The     commandant takes off with the ports still open--the aliens will die in their ship.

GEAR: Ualda's water breathers, thought translators, talismans,

NOTE: Tim calls the Commander ugly. Ualda returns to Tim and Tam,      tells the seals her people will protect the seal planet and      that to bring Tim and Tam to her planet is forbidden. On the      cover, the primitive tribal humans were green faced but in the      comic.

CLOSING NARRATION: Later, as the SS lifts off to continue its search for a familiar star...

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE ON SPACE STATION ONE

ISSUE: 40

DATE: July 1974

TITLE: ACCIDENT IN HYPER SPACE

COVER: HYPER SPACE WHERE TIM AND Tam fight to survive while they        shrink in size!

NARRATION: Lost in uncharted space, Earth's first complete,      navigable space station is picking up coded radio signals from      an earth type planet...signals that Craig Robinson has fed      into a language translator.

LIFE FORMS: Lots! Giant gopher like mammal, butterfly, hawks,      dragonfly, ostrich,

CIRCUMSTANCES: Breaking into hyper space shrinks Tim and Tam in      their space mobile with it. Later, after Tuklot's help and      help from the Chief Astronomer, they have to fly their space      mobile, tiny, out of the observatory on the Space Station and      into the bay...for they grow back to normal size.

ALLIES: Tuklot, deputy coordinator of an alien city. Flying      platforms loaded with civilians escape an earthquake and a      tidal wave. Wear robes and slippers. Look a bit Oriental or      Spanish. Flat noses. Headpieces. Balladorn is their capital.      Aliens find three star systems that could be Earth's for the      Robinsons.

ENEMIES: Savages with black pony tails and pointed jagged clubs      riding on a horse like kangaroo creatures.

NOTES: Lots of LAND OF THE GIANTS references and type scenes      including being dropped onto a table top and being called      LITTLE PEOPLE. TV's LOST IN SPACE seemed to be the reference      point for a window on page one that looks alot like the three      paneled viewport in the LOST IN SPACE TV series.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE ON SPACE STATION ONE

ISSUE: 41

DATE: October 1974

TITLE: BATTLE OF GIANTS

COVER: BATTLE OF GIANTS! A clash between two men of magic who      transform into gigantic beasts!

NARRATION: Having landed on a seemingly uninhabited planet for      minor repairs on their space station, June and Craig Robinson      allow their children to explore the continent in their      spacemobile...

CIRCUMSTANCES: A blasted city, some radiation;

LIFE FORMS: a giant mutated rat with tusks, talking giant statue      that looks almost Egyptian; another giant statue that looks      almost Norselike, another almost African (it talks to June and      Craig later). The statues lead them to Goulak.

ENEMIES: Perhaps in what is the world's first alien villain (or      almost any character) that has worn a short cut shirt (much as      ELRIC would do in several of his comic series) a blue alien      with a buzz cut (he's far ahead of his time in many areas) is      named Goulak. He uses mind control to get Tim and Tam to get      their parents to the area. He starts to drain the life out of the four. Tim fights him off but then sees a giant eye of the     alien, several unreal horrors--snakes, amphibious monsters; a    giant dragon that shoots fire on him--all illusions; next a tower falls at Tim and next he is hanging over a fire--these last two dangers are real as is the next--a pendulum.

ALLIES: Lothian of A-Tarr, a tall, handsome blonde or white haired man with band around his head and open shirt and purple tights    with a cape arrives to save Tim and give the "space wanderers"  back their life energy. Goulak attacks Lothian and the pair     fight. Goulak transforms into a giant cat, then a dino-dragon,     Lothian turns into a unicorn; Goulak a serpent; the two change     again--a hawk and vulture; they fight with swords when they return to form. Even though King Lothian wins, it is still    mind against mind. He tells them to return to their space   mobiles.

OUTCOME: En route, the family encounters giant pterodactyl like      birds, rumbling falling ruins, spiny bushes with thorns that      move around the spacemobiles and one grabs June; the dead city      melts away; Lothian teleports to the space mobile and takes      them to his city where human seeming androids with white hair      are. A sudden burst of radiation from their sun killed many      people--children of survivors were mutants and they died also.      Lothian was born with psychic powers and taps the energy of   his sun to use his power. It is how he destroyed Goulak.      Lothian makes android doubles of the Robinsons to keep him    company. The atomic chain reaction spreads and Lothian takes   the Robinsons out through the quakes. It will soon reach the    whole planet and its center. Lothian has a sleek rocketship of     his own. But Craig must help him when a rock hits him in the head. After lifting off, Lothian recovers and must see the   sun, in the observation deck, he drains the sun of power. Tam    says, "It's kind of scary."  The androids take off in      Lothian's rocket. Planet number four is where the rocket will go--it is cold and uninhabited but he has a base there. He   teleports there after giving them a model city as a keepsake.

CLOSING NARRATION: The Space Station is at a safe distance as the      planet explodes into a fiery mass. The Robinsons, shaken by   the day's events, are silent as the gaze back upon the   spectacular scene...and all are frightened at the thought of     what can be wrought by man's mind.

SPACE STATION: Infirmary is seen.

NOTE: We see inside the back room of Tim's spacemobile-not for the      first time.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 45

DATE: October 1975

TITLE: PLANET OF MONSTERS

COVER: The Robinsons rescue a Space Boy stranded on the PLANET OF      MONSTERS!

INSIDE COVER: also follows titles with ON SPACE STATION ONE as does              issue 46 as well.

NARRATION: With its power generators strained by a narrow escape      from a black star, the lost space station must land for   repairs on an Earth type planet...

CLOTHES: The Robinson clothes, always wonderful, far surpass any of      the other issue in sleekness and design.

ALIENS: blue-green faced Oriental like friendly aliens with black      hair; a child with them has white hair; the aliens live in      mounds and are tall, skinny called LEAPERS;

LIFE FORMS: A medusa worm with many tentacles around its mouth and it gets Tim! The spacemobile's rockets fry it. A sand spider     attacks the tall people but Tim uses the spacemobile to save      them. Flying bird creatures, sea serpents, a glade Ornk- Groooonk sounding monster-a dragon like thing; The Light      Bender!

THE SPACE BOY: He did come from the other side of this planet. His      parents died when their flyer crashed. The boy's name is Duka      Ponato and he lives across the ocean they must cross to get   him home. He and his parents were the first ones to cross the     ocean. He wears rags mostly and has no shoes, big black eyes,    after many adventures with monsters and near death, the boy     (who thought Tim and Tam were going to die) is reunited with     his uncle Comas after three years.

DANGER: Something kills the birds and makes them fall from the sky.      It almost drags the spacemobile down, too. Some marine monster      generates sub sonic vibrations which can kill them, tear apart      living tissue. Tim has to land. When Tim and Tam pass out, the      boy recovering, cannot wake them up so he ventures out      alone...and falls into quicksand! The Grooonk comes at Tim and      the boy in the quicksand. Craig and June arrive, use cord to      pull them out, but the monster grabs the pair of boys up in   his claw, beginning to pull Tam, June, and Craig in also! The     boy's people fire arrows at it and this allows Craig enough     time to toss an egg shaped explosive in the monster's mouth.      Trying to return to the spacemobiles to show Comas, the family   find their spacemobiles gone! Comas explains it is the Light- Bender-a creature who is harmless but curious. It goes, making      them appear again. It can bend the light around whatever it     wishes.

ALLIES: Comas-who builds canopies for planes at his glass factory and glass insulators; his people are just learning aeronautics, the boy and his people are lighter yellowish than the Leapers; Duka warns Craig of storms in the desert     continent that might harm the SS1; Comas makes glass insulators for SS1 and gives them to Craig.

MORE MONSTERS: Returning at night to their space station, the      Robinsons find it webbed up by a giant spider which then jumps      onto the spacemobile of Tim and Tam; they shake it off into   the fire of their rockets (ho hum, again). They then fry the web off SS1.

QUOTE: Comas: "I never dreamed I'd meet a man from outer space,         Craig Robinson!"

ALIENS: ELDER MAN leads SS1 to a primitive planet away from a space      war--he is old with white hair and can fly in space-he is just      a projection.

LIFE FORMS: Carboniferous jungle, reptiles, a man riding on a giant      eagle, blue tribal men, ostrich like bird that eats men, a      furry hairy man-animal with intelligence. Man eating fish that      have fins that are backwards from our sharks on Earth. These      prevent Tim from swimming out to the lost spacemobile on the      surface of the alien ocean.

ALLIES: Elder Man, blue tribe; Natuk, the herb doctor whom is whisked upward on the SS1 ladder with Craig--away from the   bird monster; Natuk's home is on the water-his people the     Beaveroo; alien fish; the Beaveroo homes become a floating island.

ENEMIES: Some of the shirtless blue men traders take Tim and Tam      hostage when they tell them they have nothing to trade. They      will burn Tim and Tam if their parents won't trade the flying      boat. Tim has a thin knife in his right boot. They use it to get out.

SPACE DANGERS: The space war sends debris down to the planet, burning up the perch of the blue men's eagles and hitting SS1!    The Spacemobile is blown out to sea, minus a leg; Tim and Tam     slide down into a moss covered sea; an alien spaceship uses     parachuted to land on the ocean from out of the war. Another wreck crashes near SS1 and methane gas comes out of it--the air that the alien crew breathed and it knocks out June and   Craig. A four legged methane breather emerges near the   Spacemobile, hairy and insectoid and wearing a breathing     helmet. The "Slug" ship is blown up by another ship--a new      ship which tractor beams the spacemobile back to shore for Tim      and Tam. It was Elder Man. He has technicians repair the      station's space drive.

NOTE: A more complicated, involved issue than most with lots      happening.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

NOTE: Inside cover says ON SPACE STATION ONE.

ISSUE: 50

DATE: January 1977

TITLE: PLAGUE SHIP!

COVER: Epidemic on Earth-and a fight for survival aboard the PLAGUE      SHIP!

NARRATION: After an extra dimensional space maneuver, the      Robinsons' telescope brings a familiar star into focus...

ALLIES: Space Cruiser Perseus Capt. Adams from EARTH! Crew-Sloan   and Fraser among many others.

PLANET: Number 12

PROBLEM: Titan Bacillus that escaped from a lab somehow (Shades of     Terry Nation's VERY SCARY TV SHOW---THE SURVIVORS) is              causing a plague.

LIFE FORMS: Lizards of orange and flat bodies and faces; rodent      toads, birds, strange flying mantas, cloud ceiling of red,      volcanic activity, flowers, gas bacilli that can cure plague, a 3 eyed beaked creature with five tentacles and that looks as    if it made an appearance in VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA in a slightly changed form some years earlier-with a gorilla bottom half and parts of a giant lobster-crab! Here, issue 50,      it also can be airborne! a GIANT HAIRY cyclops with four arms,   three claws on each hand, and three clawed toes, over 8 feet    tall, is one of the specimens on Adams's ship. It escapes! The     Quadrumanous Ape is from Planet Alpha 34--odd since it and the     whole scene with it remind me of SPACE: 1999-particularly the   Maya goes berserk episode SPACE WARP. It also looks like a creature Maya turned into in THE BRINGERS OF WONDER PART TWO and NEW ADAM, NEW EVE.

GEAR: White spacesuits on Adams's ship.

ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS: Helping out on Adams's ship, Tam gets infected      by pricking her finger by accident. June wards off the cyclops      with a laser gun. Craig forestalls it but Tim kills it but is      wounded slightly--infected. The monster's blood kills the      virus and saves Tam and Craig as well as the crew from the      plague.

SPACE DANGERS: Alpha 3-one of Alpha Centauri's triple suns-which is      dangerously close to Adams's ship. Perseus shifts into hyper      space to Earth. The Robinsons are ready to go home too after all this time--June says, "After all these years."  Alack and     alas, the burst from the star reaches out from Alpha 3 to plunge SS1 into space--activating the dimensional unit...

QUOTE: June: We're lost again, Craig--LOST IN SPACE!

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

NOTE: inside cover reads SFR LIS ON SPACE STATION ONE

ISSUE: 51

DATE: April 1977

TITLE: CITY IN ORBIT

STORY: Gaylord Du Bois

ART: Dan Spiegle

COVER: NO ESCAPE-A golden satellite on collision course with an      alien planet!

NARRATION: Lost among the stars, Earth's first manned space station      approaches an Earth-like planet-to discover another visitor!

SPACE DANGERS: A very giant alien cylinder draws SS1 to it. Tim and Craig spacewalk and find a way in. They find aliens in suspended animation in tube-like oval shapes.

ALLIES: Eripon, chief engineer, blue faced aliens; some aliens have      yellow faces;

BACKSTORY: The master race which enslaved his race long ago, began      raiding planets for more slaves of many species; alien    cultures that resisted were destroyed, until the masters met a race mightier than themselves--THE TORATONS! The Space       Fleets of the Masters and the Toratons clashes and the Toratons won. With their enemies'  fleet destroyed, the    Toratons attacked the Master's home planet. All the inhabitants, including the slave populations perished...only      this cylinder survived..a city in itself, made for exploring      other star systems. It returned to find the war over...the      Masters were in a desperate predicament...nearly out of atomic      fuel and alone in the universe. They reached this planet, once      inhabited by intelligent people, who had resisted the     Masters until the Masters destroyed them. The surface was    radioactive and uninhabitable. They have been orbiting nearly   100 years. The Masters are yellow, the slaves are blue. The Toratons are green and wear yellow and orange.

LIFE FORMS: An ape man starts the Space Mobile and takes off by      accident, nearly killing Tam. Tim pushes her down. Other hair      covered ape men capture Tam and Tim. Tim's red outfit looks      orange in more than one frame. The apes seal Tim and Tam in a      ground hole with a block over it. June uses SS1 to try to      scare the apes; Craig docks up with the little ape child. June      and Craig exchange the little ape for Tim and Tam.

INSPIRATION: It is hard not to think of PLANET OF THE APES and      BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES as Tim and Tam explore an      underground subway that was wrecked by the Masters in the past      war. The SS1's docking has knocked the cylinder out of the      sky. It crashes, killing the Masters. Tim and Tam are trapped by cave ins underground but find their way out.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

NOTE: inside says SFR LIS ON SPACE STATION ONE

ISSUE: 52

DATE: August 1977

TITLE: BRIDGE OF AGES

COVER: Through the time bridge...a fantastic journey!

NARRATION: Lost in space, the Robinsons have landed on a barren G-     type planet to prospect for selenium-an element used in their      photo electric devices.

GEAR: Tim and Tam watch movies on SS1--Tim watches BLAZING TRAILS      again-they have both seen it 12 times; another is MONTANA      SKIES-seen 6 times.

OF INTEREST: FANTASTIC JOURNEY was airing on TV soon with strange      vortexes as mentioned in this issue. Also the Arch seems to be      like the STAR TREK Guardian of Forever. The mountain range      looks a bit like the Robinson's first season planet on TV'S      LOST IN SPACE.

CIRCUMSTANCES: June felt the arch was going to make Craig vanish   but it was too late--he already did. They figure they are on the same planet but in an earlier age.

LIFE FORMS: A humanid with butterfly wings and antenna, orange body      which collects blossom nectar hunted by a monster giant   spider! Craig fights it and together he and the alien kill it.    More butterfly men take them to a dim hollow tower of clay.    Sea monsters, army ants, spider giants, mothmen

BACKSTORY: One alien, the ruler, recalls rocket ships of wingless      aliens in purple and black suits who killed flying dragons,      lived inside an enormous bubble dome, used witchcraft and made      the winged people slave for them, feeding pollen and nectar to      their machines. One day the ground shook and mountains belched      fire and destroyed the dome and the aliens vanished--possibly to the cave of the spiders. The one Craig saved, saves them from a decree of death. The Old Priests are suspicious of     humans without wings and may try to kill June and Craig at night.

GEAR: Craig's laser tool helps June and he escape at once. They      hide from giant ants who march in an army, then cross a gorge      with vines. Beneath are sea monsters and serpents. The army      ants carry off one dead ant, giving the pair of Earthlings a      chance to get away. Craig had shot it--low power in his gun.  OUTCOME: Clancy tracks June and Craig by scent to the arch. A thick      jungle survived, the parents encounter a moth man with a spear; they also fight a giant spider but more arrive; so do     Tim and Tam and stop the spiders with the landing rockets.

TIME FRAME: A million years ago or more. They go back through the      time bridge to their own time and thank Clancy who is with      them in the spacemobile.

SPACE FAMILY ROBINSON LOST IN SPACE

ISSUE: 53

DATE: October 1977

TITLE: NO PLACE LIKE HOME

STORY: Gaylord Du bois

ART: Dan Spiegle

COVER: Found...Planet Earth! Is it Real or Illusion?

NOTE: Top corner of cover only says SPACE FAMILY. Robinsons look      like TV's LOST IN SPACE family wearing silver spacesuits in      what is one of the best covers.

NARRATION: After years of wandering, lost in space, Craig      Robinson's telescope spots something that raises hopes...

CIRCUMSTANCES: The skyline's changed a lot but the Robinsons seem to land on Earth--wild domes, rocket planes, manta shaped    ships, Mount Palomar Observatory spots them and they land at      Los Angeles Spaceport. Tim tells a news man that robots     rebuilt their space drive. June sees human slaves. Both she    and Tam feel dizzy and feel like they are back on SS1. The    four go back to SS1 to use helmets THE WISE ONES gave them--   helmets which protected them on the PLANET OF DREAMS. SS1's magnetic drive has been reversed and is stuck--it can't move.     They see large domed headed aliens who labor for the GREAT      ONE, digging for jewels and uranium.

GEAR: The four use emergency packs and jet belts to fly.

ENEMIES: In a palace designed after THE WIZARD OF OZ, the family      encounter a giant disembodied face, the Great One which saw      them in space a million miles away and claims to know more      about them than they know about themselves. He wants to make      them "happy" but reveals he wants the SS1 to take him to another planet. This desert world isn't Earth at all. The    Great One is an amorphous brain cluster of terrific powers,     mass living on atomic energy encased in a giant dome. It could   fit inside the Space Station! A fire, the face swallowing mom   and dad, and a giant black bird monster flying at them try to    scare them but are just holograms. The family jet pack's start     a real fire. Guards use spears and ropes.

ALLIES: The freed aliens are home, better off than the Robinsons      since there is no place like home, Craig or one of the family      figures.

GEAR: Aliens use wheeled land desert cars open at the top.      TIMEFRAME: Craig mentions they have been lost in space 15 years!

EXTRA NOTE: Notice the WIZARD OF OZ connection.

TITLE: THE KINGSTONE

SCRIPT: Gaylord Du Bois

ART: Dan Spiegle

COVER: Space Family Robinson versus alien slave masters-in search of THE KINGSTONE!

NARRATION: Captured by the crew of an alien spaceship, the      Robinsons find they can understand their captor's telepathic      talk...

LIFE FORMS: Bear mutant crew members who help the Robinsons against      the alien masters after Craig helps free the animal people--     raccoon people, bear people, Beaver and other sorts; the aliens      take off and their damaged ship crashes and blows up; Bear      steals a spacemobile to find the gem, the Kingstone; Craig      falls in quicksand but Tim helps him out; Beaver feels Bear is      dead; they find an alien structure like a spiraled pyramid; a      flying horror that swallowed Bear-black with a mouth as its      main part; an opening in the pyramid Craig falls into; area of      building is like Yellowstone Park;

OF INTEREST: Tam dreams of seeing her school mate Sue Webster and      puff...she's there or rather her soul is. Sue looks a lot like      Judy Robinson. The Kingstone projected Tam's mind and     image      back to Earth. Craig tosses it into space and it falls    into the valley of the mists and blows up into pieces or at   least the animals think it did.

NOTE: A kind of tired story.

BACKUP STRIP: Reprint of RESCUE ON ASTEROID 48.
