CHARMED seasons 3, 4, and 5

CHARMED season 3: 3 to the end; season 4; season 5

Okay, ran through these way too fast but I was enjoying them to much to stop. I mean, since the last poor episode, the one with the evil rabbit man, the snake man and the pig man, there hasn’t been ONE episode that I thought was poor again. Sometimes there are certain philosophies given that make me cringe here or there but overall this is a fantastic show with few if any bad episodes, especially the huge batch here. I DID see one mike in one episode and possibly a camera somewhere and there is one episode where Piper seems to say Sam is half white lighter but she shouldn’t really know that, I think. Sam actually died and went with their mom to the afterlife, got returned as a white lighter and screwed up again, all unknown to Piper. For his punishment he was turned half white lighter (which makes no sense in and of itself).

47    3      "Once Upon a Time"       Joel J. Feigenbaum         Krista Vernoff  October 19, 2000    4300047  5.37[3]

While Piper worries that Leo will never return, Prue and Phoebe try to save a little girl named Kate and a Fairy Princess named Thistle from evil trolls who lurk in the "tweens" and want to capture the princess. When Prue and Phoebe need Piper's help, her concern with Leo causes a spell to backfire, placing Kate in more danger. Meanwhile, Cole, who appears in his demonic form Belthazor, tries to steal the Book of Shadows.

This gets a lot of stock from fans but I like this episode and the effects are marvelous and the little girl is played by a pretty good kid actress. Her vulnerability make the haunting scenes fairly scary for this show.

48    4      "All Halliwell's Eve" Anson Williams       Sheryl J. Anderson October 26, 2000    4300048  6.63[4]

On Halloween, a local coven leader from the 1600s named Eva (Clare Carey), summons the sisters back in time to save a witch named Charlotte (Sadie Stratton) and her soon-to-be born child from an evil witch named Ruth Cobb (Judy Geeson), who wants to raise the child evil. It is later revealed that the child in the womb is the sisters' ancestor Melinda Warren and Cole travels back in time to capture her at birth. Meanwhile, back in the present time, Leo and Darryl try to fight off two Grimlocks who were vanquished by the Charmed Ones once before, but were brought back by the power of Halloween.

Love it. Loved the time travel, love Cole in this, the entire thing, the villains are sufficiently bad in this show but almost all the time, they have bubbly personalities that make you sit up and take notice. The main cast is terrific, too. Love Daryl. He’s still in his shock phase! Love him in that and out of that. Great normal character.

49    5      "Sight Unseen"        Perry Lang       William Schmidt   November 2, 2000  4300049  5.72[5]

Prue becomes obsessed with learning more about The Triad, and thinks that they are launching an attack when the manor is burglarized with her personal items missing. Piper cannot concentrate whenever she is with Leo in a romantic setting because she fears that The Elders are always watching them. Meanwhile, Cole discovers that a demon named Troxa is trying to kill the sisters.

One thing I never got was when someone or something was trying to get the sisters and only one of them noticed the signs and told the others, sometimes the other two didn’t believe the one and looked at her funny as if she was insane. Granted what they’ve been through already, no one witch here should doubt any other. That always seemed a bit…wtf to me.

50    6      "Primrose Empath" Mel Damski     Daniel Cerone     November 9, 2000  4300051  6.09[6]

Unwittingly following the signs laid out by Cole, Prue comes into contact with a seemingly innocent shut-in, Vinceres, who refuses to leave his apartment that is about to be demolished. The man is faced with unendurable pain caused by his ability of feeling all of the emotions of the city. After learning the man is an Empath, she casts a spell to relieve him of his power, but it is transferred to her. Prue is later told he is a demon given this power to serve as a curse, causing him the inability to prey on witches or innocents. She nearly goes insane from bearing this gift that she was not meant to have. But Prue eventually overcomes it, intensifying the pain Vinceres felt by finally astral-projecting into his body and destroying him.

A fantastic episode and Shannon is terrific in this, as always. Maybe even above and beyond. The villain is wonderful, too and Cole’s interactions fabulous. The twist took me by surprise as I thought the empath would be the innocent but he’s evil.

51    7      "Power Outage"      Craig Zisk Monica Breen & Alison Schapker       November 16, 2000        4300050         5.87[7]

In an attempt to destroy the Charmed Ones, Cole enlists the help of Andras, a demon who magnifies anger into rage. Meanwhile, when the sisters lose their magic after using their powers against each other, they are left defenseless against attacks from The Triad and Belthazor.

Can’t remember much but that I enjoyed it.

52    8      "Sleuthing with the Enemy"   Noel Nosseck         Peter Hume     December 14, 2000 4300052  5.83[8]

When the sisters discover that Cole is Belthazor (Michael Bailey Smith), Phoebe must make one of the toughest decisions of her life: either vanquish her boyfriend or keep one of the most dangerous demons known to exist alive.

Though I felt the Cole thing may have gone on too long, I loved just about every second of it. It made for satisfying viewing as Cole sparred with all the other characters, even his minions. The actor is a very good one. And he draws you in and makes you believe everything he’s doing and feeling.

53    9      "Coyote Piper"        Chris Long        Krista Vernoff         January 11, 2001     4300053  5.12[9]

Prue and Phoebe have their hands full when Piper is possessed by the evil spirit named Terra, on the day of her high school reunion.

I think this is the hilarious dance on the bar episode, the dance taught to Holly by Shannon. Great episode.

54    10    "We All Scream for Ice Cream"       Allan Kroeker         Chris Levinson & Zack Estrin  January 18, 2001         4300054  5.44[10]

The sisters trace a mysterious ice-cream van operator who abducts children, but the evil may not be who they initially suspect. Meanwhile, the girls' dad Victor comes for a visit.

Another one of those twist episodes where you do not see the real villains coming: the little kids! Creepy and fun at the same time. Like the scenes of the girls making up with dad.

55    11    "Blinded by the Whitelighter"        David Straiton   Nell Scovell      January 25, 2001     4300055         5.44[11]

The sisters must stop the warlock Eames (Steve Valentine) from executing his plan to steal specific powers from witches in his attempt to kill every Whitelighter in the world.

Don’t remember much except that the plot is clever and well executed. Enjoyed it is also something I remember.

56    12    "Wrestling with Demons"       Joel J. Feigenbaum    Sheryl J. Anderson  February 1, 2001         4300056  5.99[12]

Prue discovers that her former college boyfriend is being led down the path to becoming a demon, and the sisters must risk their lives in an underworld wrestling ring to save his soul.

Hilarious and love the fight scenes! The actor playing the ex is from SEAQUEST.

57    13    "Bride and Gloom" Chris Long        William Schmidt   February 8, 2001     4300057  5.37[13]

When a shapeshifting warlock tricks Prue into a shot-gun wedding in order to steal the Book of Shadows, Phoebe and Piper are lured to the dark side and begin to enjoy their new evil powers.

Did I miss this episode by mistake? I can’t seem to recall much about it. I did go through the eps fast, maybe too fast but I couldn’t help it. I loved every second! I seem to remember something about Phoebe and Piper using their dark powers. I also can’t imagine something tricking Prue into a shot gun wedding. It does ring a bell. I may have to go back and check.

58    14    "The Good, The Bad and The Cursed"   Shannen Doherty   Monica Breen & Alison Schapker   February 15, 2001         4300058  5.15[14]

Phoebe feels the pain of an injured Native American named Bo trapped in a time loop of a deserted town she visits. Prue and Cole enter the time loop that is stuck in the mid-1800s to save Bo, and Phoebe, from death at the hands of a local thug, and break the time loop.

Teaming up Cole and Prue was an outstanding idea and the time travel set up and locations were great. A nice change of pace and gosh, the actor playing Bo is super good looking. Everyone seems to be having a great time playing this and it translates to the audience.

59    15    "Just Harried" Mel Damski     Daniel Cerone         February 22, 2001   4300059  5.89[15]

On the day of Piper and Leo's wedding, Prue's astrally-projected self adopts an uninhibited, wild personality that threatens to ruin the wedding and place her in jail for murder.

Again, Shannon is terrific. Her driving through the wedding on a motorcycle is fantastic. What a great idea. Piper can irritate as much as make one laugh. Sometimes she’s just a bit too nagging and neurotic. Love her, though.

60    16    "Death Takes a Halliwell"        Jon Paré  Krista Vernoff    March 15, 2001       4300060  5.42[16]

Prue, growing weary of her battles to save innocents and in fighting off the Angel of Death, is forced to turn her back on a dying soul, and must come to grips with her feelings towards fate and the death of her mother.

Saw it. Can’t remember much but that it was a serious episode. Not sure if this is the episode where they go back to the camp area to face the water demon but I don’t think it is. I know I liked it.

61    17    "Pre-Witched" David Straiton Chris Levinson & Zack Estrin       March 22, 2001       4300061  5.19[17]

While the sisters must deal with the possibility of being separated as Piper and Leo plan to move out on their own, they recall a time before they knew they were the Charmed Ones, when the girls were coming to grips with the death of Grams and Phoebe's departure to New York.

Again, sure I saw it but can’t recall much but that I felt entertained by it.

62    18    "Sin Francisco"        Joel J. Feigenbaum Nell Scovell     April 19, 2001  4300062  4.03[18]

A demon named Lucas wielding the Seven Deadly Sins uses his powers against The Charmed Ones. Phoebe becomes infected with lust, Prue with pride, Piper with gluttony, and Leo with sloth. It is revealed that those infected with one of the sins may self-destruct due to the nature of the infection.

Hilarious. Krause is great as Leo on the couch (he’s always great in a sometimes thankless role, nay saying to the girls, cow towing to them and mostly his wife).

63    19    "The Demon Who Came in from the Cold"         Anson Williams       Sheryl J. Anderson  April 26, 2001         4300063  3.46[19]

Cole poses as Belthazor to infiltrate an internet organization run by evil, that plans on controlling the world's information flow on the internet. Meanwhile, the sisters must vanquish the warlock posing as the company's manager without exposing Cole's role in the situation.

Great premise: an evil business. Terrific plot, great performances.

64    20    "Exit Strategy" Joel J. Feigenbaum Story by : Peter Hume

Teleplay by : Peter Hume & Daniel Cerone    May 3, 2001         4300064  4.07[20]

The evil Brotherhood plots to sabotage Cole's relationship with Phoebe in an attempt to turn him back to evil. Meanwhile, Piper develops a new power, the ability to accelerate the molecules in an object.

Not sure where the scene happens but Piper vanishing the Cole minion (who really did seem to care about Cole?) and by using her explosion power is one of the great all time funny moments thanks to Holly and how she waves her hands and then expresses joy and surprise that the explosion power worked right this time out. She’s just the best!

65    21    "Look Who's Barking"     John Behring   Story by : Curtis Kheel

Teleplay by : Curtis Kheel & Monica Breen & Alison Schapker May 10, 2001  4300065  4.68[21]

Phoebe has a premonition of a young woman being killed by a demon in a phone booth whilst adding on to the Belthazor section of the Book of Shadows, thus causing her to think Cole is responsible. However, the sisters realize that this murder does not follow Cole's pattern. Piper learns that it is actually the demon on the reverse page that's responsible; a Banshee. The sisters then cast a spell to track down the banshee which turns Prue into a dog, but Prue gets hit by a car. The driver takes her home to care for her, thus taking her out of the action. When the banshee attacks the Halliwell manor she surprises Phoebe in the attic and, sensing her immense pain, which is what the banshee feeds on, over Cole's betrayal, screams at her. It is later discovered that although this scream would kill mortals, it has a very different effect on witches: it turns them into a banshee too. Piper blows the Banshee up but it is too late, Phoebe has already turned into a banshee. Leo warns Piper that if Phoebe kills, she will stay a banshee forever.

An excellent plot and some funny dialog! Fantastic.

66    22    "All Hell Breaks Loose"   Shannen Doherty         Brad Kern         May 17, 2001  4300066  5.26[22]

Prue and Piper bring a doctor to the manor, to protect him from a powerful demonic assassin named Shax, who was sent by The Source. When Shax breaks into the manor, he throws Prue and Piper through a wall, causing them to almost die, until Leo arrives with enough time to heal them. Phoebe uses a vanquishing spell on Shax but it does not kill him. While searching for Shax out in the streets, Prue and Piper are caught on live television using their powers, thus exposing themselves as witches. Phoebe goes to the Underworld to find Cole and while there, they are forced to strike a deal with Tempus to travel back in time to before it was revealed that magic existed. They travel back successfully but Phoebe, Cole, and Leo are now trapped in the Underworld, leaving Prue and Piper lying unconscious on the floor from when Shax blasted them in his initial attack.

Shocking. Sad to see Shannon go and I was sure the series would come back and flop for good or that it wouldn’t even come back. This episode was shocking and sad but well directed and well acted.

67    1      "Charmed Again"    Michael Schultz       Brad Kern October 4, 2001      5.97[1]

68    2      Mel Damski

Leo was able to save Piper, but was unable to heal Prue. Piper and Phoebe must now deal with the loss of their elder sister and the loss of the Power of Three. However, The Source discovers an unknown half-sister named Paige Matthews, the daughter of Patty and her Whitelighter, Sam, who had been kept hidden. Paige, the now-youngest Halliwell can restore the Power of Three and reunite the sisters' strength as witches. Piper and Phoebe must find Paige to destroy the demon Shax and to stop The Source from getting to her first, allowing them to become once again the Charmed Ones and reconstituting the Power of Three.

A 48 hour window threatens the Charmed Ones existence as Paige needs to choose which side she'll serve, a flaw that The Source takes advantage of to entice Paige to evil.

Paige: hmmm. Rose is good. Very good. I just think she’s my least favorite sister, mostly because I love Shannon and love her as Prue, I’m equally impressed by Alyssa’s ability to (ironically) connect as Phoebe to ANY guest star character and her interaction with anyone and especially Cole; I’m also impressed by Holly’s ability to say very insulting and sarcastic things to anyone and everyone and keep Piper from being a world class unlikable B word. Piper is fun and the most real of the sisters. Rose had a huge gap to fill with Prue gone but she also had to measure up to two strong and funny experienced and experience in the show itself actresses. She does so admirably from the get go.

I gave up on the show at this time when it first aired but I never saw every episode from ANY season until now. I’m impressed by all of it, frankly and impressed it survived the loss of a such a good talent as Shannon. Rose does well here and in future.

Paige takes the Book of Shadows into her work to cast spells which help her co-workers. Meanwhile, Piper, who is filled with anger over the death of Prue and the recent actions of Paige, is turned into a member of a supernatural band of vigilantes known as the Furies.

Not sure where Glenn came into it but boy was Phoebe right: WHOA! He’s super hot. Love the Fury storyline!
