DOCTOR WHO-STATE OF DECAY part 1

It’s getting harder and harder to say anything new and different about these but may I start with : I love this and always will. It’s just so gothic mixed with the technological and horror trapping of Hammer and Tom-isms. Sure, the cliffhanger is stunning in a way but it could have been great if this wasn’t DW and we saw an army of bats flying straight at Tom and Lalla but there you go. It still looks wonderful and the location work is stunning and chilling and glowingly beautiful.

Matthew: sure he’s a bit awkward but I think that must makes Adric a bit more alien with the stilted walk and the bit of dance, the happy smile when he’s caught by the goodly wife and the downtrodden husband…downtrodden because he has to obey the King’s guards and give people to the tower…ostensibly to serve but really for the Wasting. As anyone who follows my reviews, will know I tend to love this era and love Tom, Lalla and especially Matthew as Adric and K9. This team is my favorite and I wish they had lasted longer in the show for years and years. I’d still be watching them and wish they’d do MORE, many more BIG FINISH audios, even just Matthew and Tom alone.

The mystery of this was incredible and I defy anyone to say they knew the castle was a spaceship from the start. They’d be lying. Terrance Dicks, love him, seems oddly confused by his own script, on the commentary when he asks, “Why are they dressed up in Medieval clothes?” Earlier he defended it by saying they had their own course of timeline history.

The threat of vampires vs the Doctor, Romana, Adric, and K9 is just too great an idea to go wrong and this does not, clearly and entertains to the maximum. Most CLASSIC Who relies on expectation and imagination and this is one of the best for that.
