“You really
like this sort of thing, don’t you, David?”
“Sure.”
“Some
people’s taste.”
I’d like to
start a I Hate Mrs. Johnson fan club. She’s an F’C word here. Due to her Laura
kills Guthrie. Her big mouth and her snooping and her gossiping to Laura does
it all. It’s painful to see a horrid person like Johnson survive while a truly
good character like Guthrie die because she opened her big trap and she doesn’t
even realize she kills Guthrie through her gossip and she does the same to Dr.
Lang later on in the series. She even tells Laura he is in his car going to get
his tape recorder from the hotel. Mrs. Johnson. I HATE her. J
Johnson gets
two IDK. David gets two IDK. David and Vicki in the first location work we’ve
seen in a long, long time…go to the old house. Sam gets an IDK, too. We also
see location work of the car that Guthrie is in driving away but it is too dark
to see the driver. We also see it on the roads and at least one car pass by. At
one point when Sam and David, at the Old House, Sam there for the first time,
Vicki seems as if she’s being possessed.
I like how
Vicki tells Laura as she leaves the house with David that soon they’ll know
everything.
Other than
that, it is a shame to lose Guthrie but he had to go for this show to continue.
A lot of supernatural shows use the same thing after this: cars out of control
by supernatural forces, a fire that seems to not to be a natural fire, and the
spell that Laura does. DS often repeats the spell routine but usually with
Angelique.
A good
episode with a shocking ending thanks to the big mouth Mrs. Johnson, the hag.
You think she’d know better than to tell Laura anything.

A good fade out from house to Guthrie's
face to Laura's attacking face.
The reprise might be a little different
and there's some new stuff before
the theme tune. Guthrie hugs David,
begging him to help him. David seems
be the reason Laura calls off the attack
and Guthrie tells the confused
boy that he was saved by David. David
tells him about Josette. Guthrie
tells David and Vicki that David is the
key. WHAT? Is David like Dawn from
BUFFY? No, sorry, couldn't resist. We
KNOW he's the key! Guthrie tells
Vicki to take David and wait for Joe to
bring Sam...Guthrie himself has
things to do! WHAT? He has to go to his
hotel to get the tape recorder and
his notes. Later, David has finished his
homework and he and Vicki are
about to go. Laura just walks into the
house and tries to get David, whom
Vicki left in the foyer ("Now just
stay here, okay?", the dumbo), to spend
the night with her at the Cottage. David
tells her everything he knows:
that Vicki at Guthrie's suggestion is
taking him someplace and it's a
surprise. When Vicki return, she levels
with Laura and tells her that
"very soon we may know
everything." Well, I wouldn't bet on everything but
more...
Now the evil Mrs. Johnson...whom I now
hate thanks to this scene...and I
don't know if I can ever get over this
about this naggy, annoying
character...tells Laura what she knows:
that Guthrie, Vicki and Sam are
going to the Old House to use David in a
séance...AND that Guthrie is
driving to the hotel to get his notes and
tape recorder. She's annoying,
naggy, and gossipy and thanks to her
GUTHRIE is going to DIE! I hate Mrs.
Johnson. She knows there's something not
right about Laura and knows how
Roger feels about her and yet she still
tells her anyway and I believe
even Guthrie told Johnson to keep David
away from Laura if she could. The
b*&^% directly (?) causes Laura to
kill Guthrie and the info gives Laura
the chance to do it.
OUTDOOR STUFF: we see Vicki and David
walk to the Old House in what looks
like stock footage we've seen before. Sam
arrives and for some reason, Joe
leaves again. Or least I think he does.
While Sam talks to David, for some
reason Moltke or Vicki starts reacting
badly...as if in a trance or
possessed already...or maybe someone
farted, I don't know. Anyway it's a
strange look on her face that makes me
wonder if something was cut on the
spot (and I do and don't mean a fart).
This is Sam's first time at the Old
House and he hopes it is his last. It
won't be.
We view Guthrie get in his car (a set)
and drives off. It is seen on the
road (possibly stock footage of Roger in
his car; stock from the early
eps!). Guthrie sees a bright light, then
flames. I guess that Laura is
also attacking his mind because when the
flames come about he's not sure
why there should be flames...and he
should know. So I'm guessing that
Laura has made him forget about her
powers while attacking him with the
bright light in his face...and in the
next ep or maybe this one, he also
states that his brakes don't work. It
seemed earlier that he could have
stopped the car from the bright light and
gotten out. In any event, this
whole car thing is most disturbing for
what it means rather than its
execution. Still, daytime is brave to do
this kind of thing, it just
wasn't done before and most daytime soap
back then were not this
ambitious. "Why should it be like
fire?"
Back the Old House, Sam asks David,
"You like this stuff?" David tells him
he does. Sam scoffs but laughingly it
seems, "Some people's tastes..."
I must stop and say that Sam paired with
Vicki and David makes him almost
likable and happy!
In any case, the car crashes and seems
turned on its side or
upside-down...it's hard to see to be
honest. Laura makes a fire start in
the wreck...this seemed to be a weekend
(a Friday) and the cliffhanger is
resolved...by us finding out Guthrie is
dead!
A good episode as Vicki confronts Laura,
Laura kills Guthrie, and David
and Sam meet at the Old House and the one
that shows Mrs. Johnson for the
liability that she is. Thing is: I doubt
anyone ever finds out that she is
responsible for Guthrie's being killed by
Laura. She sucks!
