BATMAN 66-THE DUO IS SLUMMING

A really good episode. It’s fun. The entire cliffhanger is not finished off in a few minutes but several and contains some of the best use of footage, stock or otherwise. I love that Robin mostly does the action while Batman provides the intellect to get out of it. Although…Adam West, probably not to be upstaged, seems to briefly mimic the bird call that Robin was supposed to do. Robin gets the gum, plugs the hole and calls the bird over to pop the balloon. Not sure who Mayor Stonefellow was supposed to parody but he is the reason a phone booth (remember those?) was next to the balloon where it landed!?

 

Burt Ward is particularly good in this episode. I love when Batman is talking to Knab, that Burt practically sticks his head on Batman’s shoulder. Knab’s apartment reminds me a bit of the Brady Bunch main room particularly the steps.

 

Of note is that Puzzler’s crimes are supposed to all involve aviation. In the end, Puzzler salutes Batman, impressed with his knowledge of Shakespeare when Batman corrects him on the number of a line Puzzler quoted and incorrectly said was the number of the line after.

 

Also of note here is the bat fight: it’s one of the best ones of the entire series and so far. The henchmen try to and do shove most of Robin onto one of the turbine holes (?). At first, it looks like a dummy and from afar the stuntman playing Robin but in closer up, it is Burt that gets removed by Batman. The fight, on and around, the plane is one of the best and one of the funniest and most dramatic with the duo working as a team to stop the henchmen. Why not use one of those previous darts?

 

In any case, a respectable episode with a lot going for it, which is tough for a one off villain story. Evans does remarkably well in his only Batman episode and I’m surprised they didn’t get him back, it sure would have made for a better episode than the John Astin Riddler two parter.

 

The window as they climb the building is Santa Claus! This was cut out of syndication. This aired two days before Christmas. This seems to be played by Andy Devine?

  DOCTOR WHO: THE STAR BEAST "I hate that."   Okay, the opening is pure RTD DW and it’s not bad. The one thing I can say that makes Donna look stupid is giving all her money away so her husband can keep working. What a dope. He says it was for charity and who knows if charities are really on the up and up and all that money went where it should go. The humor is again, as in most of RTD, from the circumstances and the character relationships and so far, it doesn’t jar or unbalance the plot or the viewers. Nice start.   Donna is stupid. You can’t help others if you can’t help yourself.   And…yawn. UNIT. UFO news report. Yawn. Boring.   In a few short bursts of dialog, RTD makes it so that we instantly relike Donna, this Doctor, and Sylvia. And through Donna, her husband and Sylvia’s dialog, like this new Rose to boot. DOCTOR WHO-BOOM spoilers

  DOCTOR WHO-BOOM  spoilers Hmmm. Let’s see. SWAT is looking really great tonight. High stakes, intrapersonal relationship issues, huge action, realistic people and characters, and followed by FIRE COUNTRY and then the always excellent BLUE BLOOD.   After last week’s two episode disaster, if this week’s DOCTOR WHO is awful, I have some tough choices to make about giving up on 2024 DOCTOR WHO and a character I’ve followed for five decades (and not just on TV: in comics, books, audios, and role playing) and an actor I really admire and love. Let’s see if this is written by RTD if I should go into it wary. Oh, wait, this is Moffat’s? Gosh, hell naw.   Okay, it looked more serious and I can’t deal with the 6 minute to 8 minute of advertising on watching live TV so I guess I’ll give this torturous Doctor Who show another go, another try. Things new DOCTOR WHO fans think that are sort of wrong and my response to the TEN MISTAKES video. What and why do new fans think these things?

 Here is my response to a video "THE TEN MISTAKES OF DOCTOR WHO by show runners who admit them" or something like that. Good editing on the video but this lady and her mistakes irk me. She seems to think that Time Lord is something that was always a part of DOCTOR WHO> it was not. Regeneration, 12 lives, the planet Gallifrey, two hearts, and most of the current things most fans think are and have always been a part of Doctor Who most didn't start until SIX years after the show began and a majority didn't start until the 11th season, 11 YEARS IN. New fans need to get their history right.  First more history:  At first, the Doctor wasn't touted as a Time Lord or even an alien. Nor was Susan. Sort of. The first "regeneration" wasn't called that. It was called a rejuvenation, suggesting Troughton was a younger Hartnell.  The second "regeneration" was just a forced change by the Time Lords who made the Doctor change his appearance. Neither of
