DARK SHADOWS 455

455

“Mr. Bradford, terrible things have been happening and I haven’t been able to do anything about them. Now, I’m glad I can help.”

“I’m not going to let anything happen to you!”

Vicki. Girl is the term used. Also: the Collinwood still is decidedly black and white! I thought for a moment this was one of those color lost episodes. The narration states that Noah has been paid to kill Daniel but that isn’t really true. He hasn’t been paid yet.

Reprise is different. Noah is now wearing a hat! AND unless I’m very wrong, I think Noah is wearing a different outfit! The dialog between Daniel and Vicki is wonky---someone here is forgetting their reprise lines when they didn’t before. Vicki says, “Tell me what’s happened,”  and Daniel says, “I don’t know who he is.”  This dialog made more sense last time. Daniel ends up with his head on Vicki’s chest and he doesn’t seem to mind.

Daniel tells her that Nathan sent him to the Old House on an errand (vs the last ep where Nathan told Noah that Daniel likes to play in the woods near the Old House). The boy gets his head to chest again.

Daniel wants to leave with Peter and Vicki when they leave Collinsport and it suits him fine to never come back. Vicki reminds him of Millicent and that he should get her back to NY. He tells her that she’s different now, too, just like Nathan and that with his money from her he can help Peter and Vicki. Vicki is inadvertently pointing the pistol at Daniel. They worry that Nathan might get Peter. When Daniel asks where she will go, she says, “I don’t know,” and perhaps away in a boat.

When Vicki asks why Millicent signed over all her money to him, Daniel explains but with the start of his comment, “I don’t know.”  Daniel explains that Forbes used to like him but he’s changed.

A maid (unseen) has let Noah into Collinwood where Nathan finds him sitting in the drawing room. When Nathan finds out Daniel got away, he threatens to kill Noah right now. Naomi comes in and Nathan fakes that Noah (calling him Gifford) wants a job and he’s helping him get a job on a ship. Say, what does a Lt. do anyway? Naomi is in red. She states it is good to see him concerned about someone. He says, “I don’t know what you mean, Mrs. Collins.”

Her answer to him, “Nor I you,”  but the subtitles say, “Are you?”

Forbes claims that girls would be frightened in the storm perhaps but says to Naomi, “You don’t know boys.”

She is concerned that Daniel is out for hours and worries that Nathan is not worried. Nathan joins the search. Naomi already told him that she has Ben and Riggs out searching the property.

As Nathan suggests the witch has Daniel as a hostage, and Naomi protests, we hear a loud  squeak.

Peter is outside the drawing room windows and though it’s not clear, it might be a flub as we see him over Naomi’s shoulder---if we saw him, why didn’t Nathan?

This might be the FIRST time we see a shot from that angle with someone standing outside the windows from the outside. Peter sneaks in and locks the door to Collinwood.  He tells Naomi that they are hiding on her property…but that’s not entirely true…unless the Collins own Eagle Hill cemetery. He warned Naomi about Nathan and tells her that he has to get Vicki out of the country. Joshua cannot help at the moment, he’s in Boston.

NOTE: the small vestibule area under the painting there is decidedly bare. Formerly, we’ve seen at least some kind of mini desk or draw stand.

Naomi suggests (another bad suggestion) that Peter bring Vicki to Collinwood but he tells her Vicki can’t travel due to her arm wound. Before they go, Peter stops Naomi and tells her that he hasn’t had many times in his life when he had to say it but “Thank you.”

Naomi counters that with all the terrible things that happened, she can finally do something to help now.

Naomi hopes Joshua will be back tomorrow. Daniel has been with Victoria in the Collins mausoleum for one hour or Peter has left about an hour ago.

Daniel tells Vicki he doesn’t try to be brave when he’s sick, it doesn’t make things better but he touches Vicki and notices her hand is very hot. And I bet the rest of her, too! He calls the mausoleum, a house. He thinks she is ill.

He wants to help so he ventures outside…and not too far from the mausoleum, Noah grabs him. Daniel kicks him and gets loose but Noah starts to choke again, telling him as planned, they will find him on the beach.

Vicki comes out and shoots Noah, who falls. I must say, too, that that is the lamest shooting in the history of TV. It looks badly organized and it does not come off too well as an effect or a scene. Vicki and Daniel then take forever to decide what to do and once they decide, take forever to get back to the mausoleum.

They find Noah is dead. When she finds that out, Vicki STUPIDLY starts calling out, “PETER! PETER!” What’s wrong with her? She and Daniel walk back toward mausoleum and in the foreground and overhead it looks like we see low hanging wires or maybe it’s part of the tree set but it looks like tubular wires!?

Just when I was going to praise the show for having a female character in the 1960s doing something brave and smart, here she goes and acts all panicked and stupid.

THEN when Peter is approaching nearby, she urges Daniel back to the mausoleum! AND she leaves the gun there! Peter picks it up! He’s even stupider. Nathan catches him and this time he will be hung for this. Nathan says that “back to prison” Peter will go (I guess technically he was there as a guard/defender of the accused Vicki but he was NOT there as a prisoner from what I recall?). Nathan also says this time the charge will be murder. ALSO: Nathan might be talking out of his butt because I don’t remember ANY charges being brought against Peter that Peter (or we?) were made aware of?

NOTE: We see Jeremiah’s tombstone as date of death is visible (just) as 1795. It’s much more difficult to see the date of birth. Wikia says 1763. It also starts out “Here Lyes…”

Sarah Collins' memorial plaque is not in the Collins mausoleum set, despite one being seen there since her death in 416.

Well once again Vicki, Daniel, Naomi, and Peter prove how stupid DS characters can be. Noah’s not too bright either. Despite the lame shooting, this ep is not too bad though and despite how dumb everyone acts. Not sure why though.
