STRANGE NEW WORLDS, THE BOYS, UMBRELLA ACADEMY, TOM SWIFT, IN THE DARK, ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING

Too many great shows to write about! TOM SWIFT is the best new series on regular TV and probably all of TV right now. Fun, escapist, meaningful, dramatic, funny, exciting and original (though based on the books), this shows has it all. Tom started on NANCY DREW last season (season three?) and caught my eye there. Despite there being a lot of genre shows that have team players in team based character driven shows being LGBT, there are almost NO gay male characters who are just gay male and who are the main lead character. TOM IS both. And one racy scene last week was rivaling even THE BOYS and early BIG LOVE and early GAME OF THRONES for sexiness, at least between two gay men. WOW. They showed almost everything. Besides that, the show had a great cast, a great story, and a fun twist on TOM and sci fi in general. I hope this show lasts long.  THE BOYS and UMBRELLA ACADEMY are in their third seasons and I haven't finished the entire season of UMBRELLA but have two and a half ep to go

DOCTOR WHO-THE TRIAL OF A TIME LORD parts 3 and 4: THE MYSTERIOUS PLANET parts 3 and 4

DOCTOR WHO-THE TRIAL OF A TIME LORD parts 3 and 4: THE MYSTERIOUS PLANET parts 3 and 4   “Like you, I'm looking for a lost man.”   “Well, if the rest of his presentation is as riveting as the first little epic, wake me when it's finished.”   “I only hope your evidence gets a little better.”   What?   I can see where they were trying to go with this but trying is the key word. They didn’t really succeed. At times, the dialog is fun and interesting and the concepts not so bad but the whole think smacks of mediocrity and desperation. It almost hangs together, probably mostly due to Robert Holmes. But just read some of the dialog from the trial sequences: it almost criticizes itself.   One cliffhanger has the Doctor taken by the machine and then menaced by …Merdeen who shoots the handsome young Grell. At times, the Doctor seems positively charming and warm toward Peri, even hugging her tightly to himself or at least putting an arm around her. He calls her

DOCTOR WHO-THE TRIAL OF A TIME LORD part 2: THE MYSTERIOUS PLANET part 2

DOCTOR WHO-THE TRIAL OF A TIME LORD part 2: THE MYSTERIOUS PLANET part 2   “I don't know. I really think this could be the end!”   We should be so lucky and be freed as DW fans!   You know, there is some merit here. You have to search pretty high and low for it but there is, most of it wasted. First, one has to imagine that a fourteen part story is a bit ahead of its time, even though by this time, shows like DYNASTY, FALCON CREST, and before that DALLAS and maybe KNOT’S LANDING were ALL doing long running parts to their “stories”, arcs if you will, one big story if you will. Of course, it is of note that they were all night time, prime time soap operas. Which now almost 90 percent of TV shows are but not all.   The thing is TRIAL presumes a good idea: a 14 part story. The content is not a great idea: having courtroom scenes, many of which have NO value, interrupt the running action (well, there’s running but for once, the running can’t really be considered action
