SHOTGUN WEDDING

SHOTGUN WEDDING   I freaking love Jennifer Lopez movies. I have to admit this movie is pure fun! It’s an action romance comedy adventure that hits all the right buttons on all of those genres. It’s funny but the action adventure is thrilling and exciting and the romance signals in on the good guys and gals and their friends and family and none of them are perfect but all of them are likable and sort of realistic as well as funny. Every moment of this movie works. The cast is perfect and you can tell they’re having a good time but unlike other movies and TV shows, this cast is having a good time in a good, fun script where the “good guys and gals” are flawed but are the good guys and gals and the “bad guys and gals” if there are any are the bad guys and gals who fulfill their promise. It’s not grim, it’s not sad, it’s what entertainment is meant to do: entertain without dragging you down in these trying days but people DO die in this. It has that element of danger and threat but t

TEEN WOLF: THE MOVIE

TEEN WOLF: THE MOVIE   No. Just really, no.   Okay, TEEN WOLF, when it came on MTV was a werewolf show that seemed to really be edgy, different, visually stunning, and filled with good looking and talented cast members. It didn’t just seem to be, it was. The first two seasons and a half or more were really great TV.   It rode a wave of shows that were truly shocking including BIG LOVE, TRUE BLOOD, THE NEWSROOM, and a few others that did things you didn’t expect. In TRUE BLOOD, this was the cliffhanger where Suki returns home to find her 75 plus year old grandmother torn apart in her kitchen. It was a bold, brave move and unexpected and launched a major series plot that mattered.   ANYONE could die and as long as these shocks made sense and didn’t come too often, they drove the show along into and out of great plots. Unfortunately, as TV tends to do, if something works, they do more of it and other shows imitate it. BUT with shocks and unexpected turns and twists like

TARZAN IN MANHATTAN

TARZAN IN MAHATTAN “How can I help?” “Put your clothes on.”   TV Movie from 1989 and it feels like that year in all its glory. There’s a 21 Jumpstreet Canadian feel to this movie and while I’m sure some of it was filmed in NYC, most of it doesn’t feel like NY at all. The basic plot is mostly here:   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarzan_in_Manhattan   What’s first to notice here is that the first few scenes in Africa (probably not filmed there, either) are quite good and okay, though I could have done with Tarzan crying out something other than, “MAMA!” when he finds Kala killed by hunters who leave behind a clue. I don’t understand, frankly, did they leave their jeep behind? There’s also a card with a hotel matchbook in the jeep and a cigarette or cigar that Tarzan smells which helps him locate the villain of the piece and the company he owns.   I’m of the sort that feels that Tarzan belongs in the jungle, mostly. I mean one of the best Tarzan movies is TARZAN’S NEW YORK ADVENTURE but
