DARK SHADOWS 183

DARK SHADOWS 183

“Perhaps I care about David more than you know. After all, I am his father.”

“You, Laura Murdock Collins, are the undead.”

Mrs. Johnson gets two IDK; Roger gets one and an IDU; Laura, later with Burke gets a first and a last for the series, an almost I don’t know as she starts and stops with, “I don’t…” She does get two IDU (I Don’t Understand)s. Burke gets two IDKs. I love it when Roger stands up to someone or something and he’s finally in the side of right as he does when he goes against Laura here for the sake of David.

When confronting Burke, Diana Millay, again, gives a great performance (in the whole episode actually) and makes us second guess if she DOES really love Burke and needs him other than getting David. Or is it still all about her getting David? When Burke tells her that her tears are phony, are they?

Roger gets another IDK and an IDU. Outside the drawing room windows are two objects that look very like HOUSES.

Guthrie unwisely visits Laura, almost puts out her fire and tells her he believes her to be the undead. He also gets two IDKs. Laura gets two IDKs and two IDUs.

Another tense, wonderful episode. It’s good to finally see Roger and Burke, separately for now, going against Laura.

183

Mrs. Johnson is hanging up something in the door alcove when the doors

open and Laura is there (that's getting a little old now). Johnson blocks

her physically from entering and gives her reasons. Laura comes in and

demands to see Roger from what Johnson just told her: David is not to

leave the house unless Vicki and/or Carolyn is with him. Vicki has taken

David for new shoes and Laura was supposed to do that. Roger, from the

balcony, tries to get out of seeing Laura but when she demands to talk to

him in the drawing room, he levels fully with her: he cares about David

than Laura knows and wants her leave at once without David. He also,

curiously, states, perhaps some day she can come back and not be gone for

good. BUT just seeing him put his foot down with her is most fulfilling.

He's awesome when he's sticking up for family and loyalty and goodness.

Laura tries to blackmail him but he doesn't back down! WOW! And seems to

      have some backbone now.

Burke is calling someone named Loder (I think) about stocks. Laura pays

him a visit. He seems to still love her (a spell?) but he does not trust

her nor does he believe in her crying, calling it fake.

Roger is talking to Guthrie and acting civil. Roger tells Johnson he does

not want Laura in the house and does not want her to see David and leaves,

not explaining. Johnson complains to Guthrie about not having

explanations. He says to her, "You have a hard life." Johnson is glad that

Laura will leave soon, she does not have to keep the Cottage clean then.

Guthrie asks her about Laura and finds out that Laura keeps the fire

burning day and night, whether or not it is warm or cold outside or

inside. She asks for a ride into town but he has to turn her down as he is

      going to see Laura.

NOTE: we seem to see more outside the window of the drawing room. I'm not

sure what those images are, but I guess they are trees but at times, they

look like other buildings or wings or sheds or greenhouses blurred.

Guthrie goes to Laura and foolishly tells her she has some kind of powers.

She thinks him drunk, insane, or joking or all three. He's none of those

things he tells her. Guthrie is direct and tells her she is not the woman

Roger married but she's not an imposter. "You, Laura Murdoch Collins are

      the undead."

Another good ep and it's great to see everyone in wonderful form from

Johnson to Roger to Guthrie and Laura. It all just works this time and

furthers the plot along, thank Goodness. I am not sure why Guthrie decided

to confront Laura alone but it is a very stupid thing to do. I guess he's

just fascinated by her. It becomes his undoing in future but frankly he

should know better from what happened to him last time.

It's nice to see Laura without any allies or defenses verbally...which

means she's going to get desperate and pull out the stronger more potent

forces...a scary thought. I can't imagine anyone watching these past few

eps, not wanting to watch more.
