WHY I LIKE LAND OF THE GIANTS over the other three Irwin series (and Star Trek)

Image
someone on another group did a poll about which Irwin series we liked best and why: here's my answer. I'm sure i left something out. I love all of Irwin's shows but not equally. LAND OF THE GIANTS didn't really have one bad story. Some were quirky, some were real world stories, some were "save the kids" stories, some were pure sci fi, and this eclectic feel, combining soft elements of mystery, action adventure, and horror with sci fi and fantasy is one of the reasons. The other is that actors and characters are the most relatable. The LOST IN SPACE family were elite intellectuals (who usually acted like morons though) and while sort of relatable (more so than VOYAGE and TIME TUNNEL's standard military/scientists), the GIANTS people were from more middle class backgrounds maybe or felt like people we could meet in real life and who talked and acted like real people. I also don't like the military aspects of TIME TUNNEL, VOYAGE and STAR TREK as much as...

DOCTOR WHO-73 YARDS (spoilers)

Image
DOC TOR WHO-73 YARDS   Wtf? I mean really WTF?   Okay, this starts out weird but at least it seems like it will be a good Hammer Horror or at least Horror Hotel great. Good scares, good situation. Very creepy.   The Doctor vanishes, no explanation. He’s wearing Sarah Jane’s outfit from THE SONTARAN EXPERIMENT. No, really. And Ruby is wearing something Jamie might have worn. Yes, really. I’m not sure but later on Ruby’s mum might be wearing a Tom Baker 18 th season jacket. Who cares?   The start is great, the set up is great but I had this wary feeling that I’ve seen this before or heard it before maybe in the movie FOLLOW or maybe in a Paul McGann audio.   Everything is going to be explained right? Well, this is RTD so it will be and it might not make sense but at least he’ll try, right?   The Doctor, before he mysteriously vanished, told Ruby the name of a future politician in Wales who was bad news. Later on, this just happen...

DOCTOR WHO's real unreal problem or unreal real problem in 2024 and 2023

Image
The best sci fi, fantasy and horror is about REAL people getting wrapped up in an unreal world that itself seems as close to real as possible. THIS is the main reason Classic WHO and RTD First Round WHO works where Moffat, Chibs, and RTD Second Coming does NOT. The Doctor, instead of just an alien humanoid who gets involved over his head is now a know it all who admits his faults...are other people's and other culture's problem and he's a space time event that can talk machines down and bring down a whole war with one action while his superhero sidekick is herself not right and someone that is unique and has magical, if not sci fi secrets about her secret past. There's nothing to latch onto the real world. The best Sci fi, fantasy and horror has real people, real relatable characters even those with superhero powers like Superman or even Wonder Woman, that we can relate to. The best DW has characters that we can relate to, even Tom's Doctor has traits that make hi...

MORE ABOUT DOCTOR WHO-BOOM

Image
would be better if it were logical and better written and if the Doc was not so unlikable thanks to Moffat and a God like space time event and in more than once location and...and so not so faithless and if the Doc weren't a know all. Who was the villain here? The Doc? Capitalism. Sigh. Without which we would not have the tech we use to make DW, watch DW, and communicate with each about DW? Read about DW? Big business? Ditto and add in buy books about DW, audios about DW, comics about DW, magazines about DW? Faith? Faith is how this world could/would grow into a world without wars and murder IF atheists and on the other side, religious zealots would let us think like the real God rather than the God of Whatever Book they try to force down our throats. The Ambulances are the villains? Uhm, mmmm. They save lives. Seems to me that this episode has alot of poor messages, false premises and awfulness about it and it's cowardly done in a cowardly script. The military? Mmmm. When fo...

A note on DW on Disney: thus far....

Image
music is fine but if it's not adding to the narrative, it's not on a great footing and if it's not a good number, well choreographed and if the music and lyrics themselves suck...which is the case with Devil's Chord, then it's time to ....well, I think it's time for me to leave this now low quality show behind. I also don't like the messages of faithlessness and the cowardly ways it's being presented. You can also point out an issue without actually saying anything about it or presenting it in a solid, brave manner and DW is pointing out issues but they're not done in a meaningful manner, just sort of there all over the place in a narrative the doesn't hang together into a cohesive whole, nor feel at all as realistic as it could be given the lack of sci fi explanations, the total illogical stuff besides the lack of sci and the inclusion of magic---I mean snot monsters, an enemy that is just not there----not one of the soldiers questioned that? ...
